If you don't play KCD1 you'll miss out on some of what I think is a vital part of Henry and Hans' characters: they have huge egos and make shit up.
Henry calls himself a ridiculous array of things in 2. Capon's page, squire, bodyguard, escort, retainer, adviser, courtier, and, in the forge DLC, his adjutant. You'd definitely think he's an important guy in Lord Capon's service with how he can't shut up about it.
He's fully bullshitting! He's not formally in Hans' service at all. The only reason he's in Trosky is because Hans literally says "I'd like Henry to come with me" at the end of 1 and Radzig allows it. No wonder Liechtenstein (who witnessed that conversation) laughs at him.
Hans makes a big deal out of how Semine is a "shithole" and Trosky is a "backwater". This might lead you to believe that Rattay is oh-so-much grander and nicer. It's not. It's a regular muddy town. It's not even the most impressive town in KCD1.
Henry can talk right out of his arse at Nebakov and say that Capon is "One of the most significant [nobles] in the Kingdom of Bohemia!" This is just a blatant lie. Hanush, Radzig and Capon are relatively unimportant nobles, as Henry can be told by people like the Trosky scribe.
Henry's obsession with Hans in KCD2 where he says things like "I have my lord, and that's all I need" and "How could I refuse you anything?" is incredibly funny and weird if you've played KCD1, because you know that Hans is pretty much just Henry's loser friend and there's no logical reason for Henry to be this devoted and proud over him lol
