MASTERPOST OF TIMES WREN WAS CANONICALLY AROACE
Because some people on this website don’t have reading or watching comprehension!
Also, I KNOW not all aroace people hate romace/sex - read my bio, I literally am aroace. But Wren is very clearly romance repulsed, and for the sake of simplicity I’m conflating the two terms for this post.
S1E2: In her very first HM club meeting, she and Elena and Audrey are talking about War and Peace ships. She mentions that generally she doesn’t like or understand romance, but she makes an exception for Danatole. Not liking romance doesn’t immediately make someone aroace, but it’s VERY heavy coding. The kicker of this part is not understanding. How would someone understand romance if they haven’t felt it?
S1E4: When Max is flirting with Issa in the library (we can get into whether that was a joke or not later), after they walk away the camera pans to Wren, who has been sitting in the corner the whole time. She looks vaguely uncomfortable with the display of romance. She shakes her head and mutters “could never be me.” This is the second time in the three episodes she’s appeared in that she professes not being able to understand/participate in romance. This is OBVIOUSLY a super aro sentiment.
S1E9: She asks Ava to review her short story for English because “it’s a Valentine’s Day assignment and I can’t write romance accurately, since you know, it’s not my thing.” Again, an obvious lack of understanding of romance.
S1E12: She literally wrote a fanfiction about War and Peace characters being aroace and then said “I’m projecting” if she weren’t aroace, what would she be projecting??
S2E4: The club is teasing Theorlando about dating and she kinda hangs back, clearly not comfortable with discussing romance. When the conversation turns to whatever crushes the HM members have, you can see her pull out her copy of War and Peace and start reading to avoid the conversation.
S2E7: Max jokes that two of the shrimps are in love and she says “this is shramatonormativity”, clearly meaning amatonormativity (which is basically the idea that everyone feels romance for those of you who aren’t appraised of aroace community jargon). Pretty much only an aroace person would know what that word means, and yes she’s clearly joking but that’s because shrimp dating is clearly a joke.
S2E8: When the club discusses a watch party of Cats (2019) and Ava and Audrey mention how hot the anthro cats are and everyone starts agreeing, except Lucy, this sparks some debate. Wren LITERALLY says “imagine thinking things are sexy, couldn’t be me.” This is so obviously asexual if you think this is anything else I literally don’t know what to tell you.
S2E11: When the visiting student asks if she and Ava are an item, she physically recoils and goes “oh NO! I’m not- I don’t like people that way.” THIS ESSENTIALLY MADE HER CANON AROACE. Wrava shippers will say she’s like in denial or something and coming up with a ridiculous excuse which is, no offense, the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.
S2E12: Prom episode. Heavy sigh. Wrava shippers LOVE to bring up that they went together without acknowledging that they both said “as friends” very clearly AND they were selling friendship bracelets earlier in the day.
S3E1: When Issa gives out valentines to everyone on Valentine’s Day, Wren scrutinizes hers and then says, “as friends, right?”. It’s obviously just a throwaway line, as they both laugh, because the whole club knows Wren is aroace! The idea of her being involved in romance is absurd to everyone.
S3E5: She’s listening to Never Been In Love by Will Jay in the opening of this episode, which everyone knows is the aro anthem.
S3E8: Mrs. Nutt suggests the department do Romeo & Juliet, and Wren fake gags and mutters to herself about how gross love stories are. Then she says she’ll only be in it if she can be Rosaline, who is famous for rejecting Romeo’s advances in favor of chastity. Rosaline-coding Wren makes it insanely obvious this scene was meant to hammer home her complete disinterest in romance or sex. During the whole readthrough, she just keeps making disparaging comments like “if i were a 13 year old capulet i simply wouldnt fall in love with romeo. Rip to juliet but i’m different.” And when Mrs. Nutt asks why she shrugs and says “It’s just how I am.” That’s so aroace!!
S3E14: In the Halloween ep, when the sirens start going around Atrox, she makes some quip about how she’s not worried about them because she’s “ un-seduceable.” Take a wild guess as to what this means.
S4E2: This one’s interesting BECAUSE she’s absent. This is the one where they all watch Titanic, and Ava says “Wren’s back in the dorm. She didn’t want to watch a love story.” And everyone accepts that because they know how she is!
S4E8: This is the one that implies the Slutrio was making out in the club room. She and Ava get there first, chatting amiably, and though Ava immediately clocks what the implication is, Wren doesn’t realize for several minutes and obvious horror dawns on her face when she does. No allo person feels that strongly about kissing being horrible.
S4E10: She and several club members agree fervently that shirtless men are gross, and when Audrey asks about shirtless women, she says “I’m not into that either.” Take that, wlw Wren camp! It’s canon that she’s not :) you can have rep without taking it from aroace people :)
S4E12: She jokes about kinning Jo March, which Wrava shippers have said is because she’s a lesbian, but the clear implication is that Jo is not into romance with anyone at all in the show. In fact, I would argue that Wrava shippers are the Laurie to Wren’s Jo, trying to pressure her into something she doesn’t want.
