TW! Description of self harm

When I was younger I had terrible intrusive thoughts - it’s the OCD, I know that now. I saw visions of myself with red ribbons of blood spilling out of red slits on my wrists. I don’t remember whether I was afraid of someone else doing it or of doing it myself. But, ever since then, I keep my wrists covered. There’s no scars to hide but there’s a terrible vulnerability, like a wound might open up at any moment, like a seam always on the verge of unravelling. I keep my wrists covered, with fake tattoos, bracelets, long sleeves. I keep my hands turned face down when I sit and when I sleep so that vulnerable spot is protected. I keep my wrists covered and I don’t let people touch that part of me.

I don’t let people touch my wrists. I don’t let people touch my wrists, except for you. When you’re holding my hands and you trail your finger around those veins that I guard so carefully, I am not afraid. I don’t know how you do it. When your fingers trail over my wrists it feels warm and wonderful and I am not afraid.

I don’t remember if he ever really touched my wrists. I don’t remember if I invented that poem - beautiful words to romanticize a beautiful boy. I wanted him to be everything. And the feeling was real, it was real - I felt like he was everything.

But it’s been a year and there’s more to life than him.

dear [...],

did you know I loved you?

you were my truest love thus far.

I had ingrained you into the pit of my heart,

you existed both in my soul and in my mind,

constantly and incessantly,

I never thought I had felt a love as pure as ours.

the times I used any remaining strength within

just to be present for you, your concerns, your worries

the hours I spent trying my darnest to bring you peace.

but darling don't misinterpret me,

I was ever so willing for said sacrifices.

the burden of my exhaustion was worth it for your mind,

I just wish you were as willing for mine.

but now you're just a stranger

not even a friend, no, it isn't the same.

having blocked each other,

you're merely an unknown username.

something in me is changing lately– kind of like when a chick figures out wings lay at its sides. and i’m not sure wether or not i’m terrified; it’s this beautiful dissonance and i swear i float on the trail end of a comet. but it’s also really rocky, like hiking through big sur, trying to find my way to the little swimming hole my mom took my to when i was ten. i think all in all however– two years from now i’ll find it all worth it. i’m excited to see who i’ll become and who i’m gonna be on the way there.

2025/10/04 - Darker Mornings (@nosebleedclub prompt, October 1)

It’s October today and that means that this time last year we were just beginning to know each other. The days were getting shorter but they were coloured with a honeyfire glow and I was so happy. It means that this time last year the sun was setting earlier and we were staying out late at goth nights and play afterparties and I was falling, falling in love.

It’s October today and that means the mornings are getting darker but I’m still waking up alone.

October 4, 2025: This might be another letter I’ll never send, another poem you’ll never read. I hope you know you fucked me up. I hope you know I forgive you.

I’d be yours again in a heartbeat, even though Aaron would kill me, and truthfully, I know it’s a bad idea. I can’t shake this love I have for you. I can’t shake the feeling that our story isn’t over yet. I’d be yours again in a heartbeat, if you ever said the word.
