jaden could definitely say he’d taken love for granted in the past . he thought that previous relationships had been the one , but since meeting ezra he knew that his idea of love had been completely wrong . “ i wouldn’t say i’m particularly selfless at all really . i’m super protective over my wife , i’m incredibly clingy , and i’d do anything to make sure she’s happy and safe .. i’m very ezra-focused , but i don’t know if i put that amount of effort into anybody else . she’s just .. she’s my everything , “ speaking about the woman of his dreams caused jaden’s mottled brown and hazel eyes to well with tears , and they rolled with a chuckle at his struggle to keep a handle on his emotions . at the altar he’d been crying , and from wren’s words he was happy that he had left his own eyeliner days behind him . if he was still in the midst of his emo phase there would’ve been a rush of black smudges trailed down both cheeks . “ i’m hoping she can relax a little when we’re on our honeymoon . she’s been through so much , y’know , from taking care of me and doing most of the wedding planning .. i’m just really hoping she can unwind and take a breath of relief , just let her hair down for once . we’re going to a ‘ handicapped ‘ resort , and even though i hate that word it means i’m not gonna need her help with every little thing , “

“Being protective over your wife is different, though. Being Ezra-focused in general makes you selfless. I think a lot of people think of being selfless as just doing everything for everybody, but that’s not always the case. For you, it’s making sure that Ezra is happy, healthy, smiling, taken care of. And there’s nothing wrong with that at all; to me, you’re still selfless.” Watching the pair together had been somewhat of a treat for Wren, usually too pessimistic to think a love like that even existed with a few exceptions. She’d grown up with parents that were practically obsessed with each other, and the only other time she’d seen something like that was when she met the Lapointes. Looking to Jaden now, she could see the misty eyes and the smile on his face, her head shaking the smallest bit before she reached out to squeeze his shoulder. “If anyone is going to help her relax, it’s you. In the few months I’ve known you, I’ve heard more jokes than I ever did growing up with Weston, and he considers himself to be a fairly funny guy.” A smile stretched on her lips as she said this, nodding along as she took in the couple’s plans for their honeymoon. “Seems to me like you two will have plenty of time to relax and take everything in. But for now, I must bid you adieu, for I’m still on the clock and want to capture as many memories of your big day as I can.” Wren gave Jaden’s shoulder another squeeze, followed by the smallest of winks before she took her camera in her hands, dipping into the crowd of people to leave the groom to find his bride.

staring up at the plain black sky put a lot of things into perspective . he’d prayed to be beamed up , experimented on and used for other-worldly science , but there were plenty of reasons to keep his feet planted on the ground too . one of those were the connections he’d made , in wren’s brother and now herself , in circe and those he kept guarded close to his chest . “ i got some loose ends to tie up here first , as much as i love the idea of grabbing my bag once again and throwing in all my belongings to just .. escape , especially if there are aliens involved . “ what could be a better way to heal a heart that had been shattered ?? that was why freshly divorced husbands went on vacations abroad , or people cut all their hair off after a break-up . there was a freedom in being impulsive , something healing about killing a previous version of yourself in favour of rewriting your own narrative .. a lovesick evolution .. but kasper had a lot here , too . he’d built a life from nothing other than the clothes on his back and a laptop , finding friends old and new along the way that flanked him through the battlefield that had been the last few weeks . forever thankful , atlanta was his home how and he wouldn’t be shaken from the peach state’s clutches unless forcibly removed .

An odd sense of calm took over the younger of the two then; she was notorious for not being comfortable around people she didn’t know, often coming off as rude or brash because even the idea of trying to hold a conversation made her anxious. Perhaps the knowledge that Kasper knew her brother made her feel a bit more comfortable with the curly-haired male, but that didn’t change the fact that Wren often wished she was elsewhere, somewhere beyond the clouds and dancing among the stars. Anywhere but Earth. “Well,” she began, her voice soft as she finally focused her attention on Kasper. “You let me know when those loose ends are secured, and we can set off on that alien blast.” Finally, a smile tugged at her lips, the genuine feeling that he wanted to be around her settling in. The raven-haired girl wished that she saw the best in people from the get-go, but she was too set in her ways by now, letting people surprise her every day. While Kasper came across as rough around the edges and a bit too closed-off, his shift in attitude towards her proved otherwise, and the least she could do was put in some sort of effort in return. Releasing a sigh, Wren closed the notebook in her hand, wiping off the bits of pencil lead that had smudged across the heel of her hand as she glanced up at the dark sky above her. “”I should probably get going,” she muttered, glancing to the time on her phone before wrinkling her nose. “But I hope you continue to use this spot for your sky viewing. Not to toot my own horn, but I think it’s a pretty decent one.”

Reece had always had problems with personal boundaries, but he was just a very naturally affectionate person - he supposed it came with the territory of living in a van with your best friends for an entire year during his formative years.  “Well, thank God someone pays you,” he teased, though he really did think she was one of the best photographers out there.  “Listen, it’s sweet, but if they come to you first, I don’t think it’s absurd of you to ask to cover something, you know?  But I also can’t force you to do anything, last time I checked,” He beamed at her, draping his arms around her shoulders in a backward hug.  “Aww, thanks Wrennie bird; I knew I could count on you to capture my good side even when my head will be as big as my ego.”

With strangers, Wren did her best to avoid contact with them as much as humanly possible. It was a method of collapsing in on herself, trying to make herself seem smaller and smaller until she was just a blip on the board. But with people she was closest to, all bets were off; in fact, some of her favorite nights with Reece involved him stretched out in her lap, her fingers playing in his thick curls and knowing that it brought a sense of comfort to the both of them. Sighing as he pulled back, she focused her brown eyes on his features, giving him a playful roll of her eyes. “I’m really not that good, Reece. I just know how to develop properly and give the illusion that they look good. Plus, my editing skills come in handy as well.” Feeling her cheeks warm as he draped his arms over her shoulders, Wren lifted one hand to grasp gently at his forearm, a silent plea to keep him there. “I hate to break it to you, but your head is already massive,” she teased, turning to press a kiss to his cheek. “At least it’s a cute one.”

Photographs could be deceiving, she knew this much especially when optical illusions could exist in the world, but there was also the fact that Minnie wasn’t there to witness the photo like Wren had, she didn’t know the quality of the photo if it looked authentic or if it was how she said it was, just a melted baby doll with a few other bits and pieces added into the mix; “Oh for sure, like photographs these days can really tell a thousand words, and sometimes if they are so well done you don’t know if what you are looking at is real or not” 

So Minnie was definitely going to give credit where and when it was due; “I think Halloween all year round would be an absolute blast, like new costumes each day and just having candy and treats-… I think that could be fun. Well unless you mean the movie then that might be a little bit creepy” referring to the madman that went around dressed in overalls and holding a sharp knife; “I think it’s a cool personality trait to have, not everyone can possess it you know?”

Had she been a little bit younger and not pumping herself full of knowledge about alien lore, the photograph would have been believable. The waitress had been just a teenager, probably trying to flirt with her brother and making googly eyes at him while she spoke to Wren in a soft voice. Of course, being the self-proclaimed grump of the family, she quickly needed to debunk the evidence in the girl’s hand, and she had felt guilty about how quickly she’d run off afterwards. “I’m a big fan of photographs, personally. After I proved that waitress wrong, I actually asked her if I could keep it. It’s still displayed in my apartment right now, as a really fond memory.” The brunette smiled to herself as she said this, the photograph flashing through her mind, along with the memory of approaching the waitress just before leaving the diner. The two still kept in contact to this day.

“If we’re being technical, I kind of live like everyday is Halloween anyway. Or rather, that’s what people tell me I do; I guess I dress like I’m in a costume or something. Rather, that’s what it looks like when I actually put effort in, which is slim to none.” Back in her apartment, everything was decorated in darks reds and blacks, most of the light and color coming from the fairy lights she’d hung up, and the candles she kept lit on almost every surface of the small space. “Well, thank you for that. Most people just look at me funny and tell me to grow up.”

“ i made you cry ?? i mean , i swear my heart literally stopped – i don’t think i could come back from that twice but , fuck , wren , my chest just tightened and i couldn’t believe that was my wife walking down the aisle . when i’ve seen weddings in movies i just thought it was a load of shit but it really isn’t , not when you find the kind of love they write songs about , “ jaden wasn’t a man that was afraid to get sappy or to speak his mind and now was no exception . wren knew exactly how much he adored that woman , just like his group of girl-friends all did ; the way those deep eyes softened and settled on the petite blonde showed a total love , something that he’d never felt before with any of his previous partners and was quite happy to reserve for ezra jean lapointe for the rest of his days . “ mascara , yeah . she looks so pretty today . she looks pretty every day but this is different .. it’s like she’s got even more gorgeous since having my surname and i have no idea how it happened , but i totally love her more for it . i’m hers now , it’s all signed and sealed and off somewhere . i’m a husband , “

“Oh, I absolutely cried. I had a couple of your guests tell me I had eyeliner and mascara running down my cheeks and making me look like a zombie,” she chuckled, the softest smile on her face as she listened to Jaden speak about how he felt. “I think a lot of people take love for granted, y’know? It’s easy to get caught up in the way movies and television shows portray it, but when it actually happens to you? God, I can only imagine how that feels.” As much as she tried to convince herself otherwise, the brunette had never actually been in love. She and her ex had been together for quite some time, but her feelings never went beyond a deep sense of lust. Watching Jaden and Ezra, though, had made her feel like she was missing something big, though she still enjoyed watching it unfold. The way Jaden openly spoke about his new wife made Wren almost blush, if only because the happiness she felt for them was almost overwhelming; if there was a time where showing her emotions was allowed, it was this day and this moment. “You deserve this, y’know? You’re both the most selfless people I’ve ever met, so this day? This day is just the tip of what you guys deserve in life.”

Leaning down, Reece rested his chin on Wren’s shoulder to peer at the images, and he was never really one to understand personal space.  “I guess that’s fair, but you’re way too good at this to be doing it all for free,” he argued, but straightened up as she turned to show him one in particular, grinning a little.  “God, Wren, no one can ever photograph me as well as you do; if I ever get to be a famous author, I’m only having you take my jacket photos for the rest of my life.  So many people have terrible author photos I almost feel bad for them.”

That same soft smile spread on Wren’s features as Reece rested his chin on her shoulder, prompting her head to tip to the side so she could lean against him. Normally she was anti-affection and contact of any kind, but her friendship with him was far different than how she was with other people, and she was grateful for his lack of personal space. “I don’t always do it for free,” she muttered, almost scowling as he pulled away from her and handing the photo she was holding over to him. “Technically I get paid because this is my actual job, but my personal photography is a little different. I would feel like a monster for charging my friends money because I want to take pretty pictures of them.” She was blushing now, her gaze going soft as he spoke. “I would love to take your jacket photos.”

Loch was typically an expert at hiding and suppressing emotions, having been doing it for a decade now. He had become well practiced at shutting it off and shutting people out. But now his emotions were read plainly on his face, because this emotion was new. Something he wasn’t sure he had ever felt. It wasn’t quite lust, not quite happiness, not quite peace. It was something else, or perhaps a combination of all of them. All he knew was that when he looked at Wren looking at him, he felt a strange warmth come over him, little butterflies beginning to taunt at his stomach, and his dimply smile was permanently plastered on his face. He was so overwhelmed with this new emotion that he didn’t yet have time to be afraid of it.

His gaze followed her as she boldly laid her head in his lap, though he had to admit it felt correct, one hand moving to gently stroke the ends of her hair. “You know, I’ve always dreamt of being an old lady with a garden. Look at you, making my greatest aspirations a reality.” he giggled, before letting out a relaxed sigh, his gaze staying down on her face, his free hand venturing to find one of hers, twining his ringed fingers with hers. “Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to stay here forever? Away from everything. Just good company and the sea breeze. Life would be a lot easier that way, I think. It’s just so nice out here. I think I forgot somewhere along the way how nice it can be to get away from the city.”

From the outside, the pair seemed like a broken mirror, left in shards on the floor but almost desperately wanting to be pieced back together. It was no secret to her that Loch was closed-off, his need to joke and be playful with her making that fact very evident. But that didn’t stop her from being comfortable with the boy who’s lap she had her head in. Her eyes were focused on the way his hair blew softly in the breeze, how her strands tugged gently at her scalp as he ran his decorated fingers through them. For only a short moment, Wren took in a sharp breath and held it, finding that she needed to shift in place as private thoughts ran rampant through her mind. She hadn’t felt that in quite some time, the last person to give her that thrill having ended their relationship with a mutual respect for one another. But they felt right with Loch, which is why she didn’t question it too much.

“I’m quite happy to provide you with this item of clothing that takes you one step closer to that dream,” she teased, fingers moving to remove the sunglasses so they could properly look at him. The brim of the hat atop his head blocked her eyes from the too-bright sun, providing just enough shade so she could focus solely on his face. Wren let Loch take her hand easily, her skin tingling as his fingers slipped between the spaces of hers, the pad of her thumb running along his knuckle. “I wish for that every five minutes,” she confessed softly, keeping his hand in hers as she shifted, sitting up so she could press just a little closer to him. “Unfortunately, we can’t do that, even if it’s the dream.” Biting at the inside of her lip, the raven-haired girl only paused for a short moment before she leaned in, her lips pressing to an exposed part of his chest before traveling upwards. she chose not to explain her actions, her free hand simply seeking out the back of his neck as she pressed her lips to his throat, and then to the corner of his jaw. Finally, Wren pulled back just enough to capture Loch’s lips in a soft kiss, feeling herself nearly relax with the anticipated contact.

wren had been an integral part of the wedding planning , a huge cost that they were thankful not to have the burden of – independent photographers could cost an arm and a leg ( pardon the pun ) and even with a little ‘ thank you ‘ envelope of cash for their friend they were making a huge saving , not to mention giving her some beautiful shots for a portfolio . since being photographed by his friend jaden’s confidence had improved leaps and bounds , especially now that she kept taking snaps when he wasn’t paying attention and they still turned out as good as if he had been posing like his model days way back in his teenage years . taking a sip from his glass the male chuckled , shaking his head which was now freer in movement thanks to the buttons of his shirt being undone . “ you’re right , i never think she’s anything less than stunning .. but she’s extra cute today , you can’t deny that .. with her hair all done and her eyelashes all .. “ jaden gestured to his face , lost as to what words he meant to say and what the hell that little brush that painted your lashes black was called .

Earlier on, Ezra had attempted to slip that little envelope with the card into Wren’s hand, but the attempt had been a failure. Instead of accepting the limited funds she knew the couple had, the brunette had turned it right back around and slipped it into the box that had been set up so guests could leave gifts for the newlyweds. Weddings were expensive, having been to a few as a photographer’s assistant and seeing the bill at the end of the night; the last thing the two needed to worry about was slipping money into Wren’s pocket. “Y’know, of all the weddings I’ve been to in my life, I think this one is my favorite.” She said this with a smile, letting her camera go and allowing it to hang on the strap around her neck. “That’s not even my trying to toot your horn. I always do this thing at weddings where, when the bride is walking down the aisle, I look at the groom, because that first look says a lot. Needless to say, you made me cry, which is a hard task.” The girl reached out, slipping her hand to Jaden’s shoulder and giving a gentle squeeze. “And the eyelash stuff? That’s mascara. Miracle in a tube, if you ask me.”

the day had gone without a hitch which honestly , for the couple who had seemed to have bout after bout of bad luck of late , was quite the surprise . here he was now thought with his glass clinking against the other’s , following a toast to the newly weds following the most beautiful ceremony he could’ve asked for . “ thank you for coming , honestly . it means a lot – have you tried the slushie machine yet ?? i know i’m gonna enjoy it more than the bar , the hard drinks can come later when i don’t have to do the rounds and greet everybody , “  family members , friends and their plus-ones all surrounded the table , but he wasn’t quite sure where his wife had escaped off to . perhaps she was familiarising herself with the collection of food not far away . “ ezra looked gorgeous , right ?? i’m still not over it , “

As the event photographer, Wren had done her best to blend in with the background, her memory card already almost full with tiny snapshots of the couple during their ceremony. She’d brought a backup, of course, but for now she was happy with pointing her camera at guests, capturing small moments in time so she could later put together a book for the couple as a keepsake, a wedding gift in her own right. The brunette was scowling down at the tiny screen in front of her when she heard Jaden approaching, the clinking of glasses following along behind him as he entertained his guests and made his way through the crowd. Receptions were notoriously busy for newlyweds, separating them more often than not as they enjoyed the party individually, and it seemed that the couple that were practically glued together were no exception. “Be honest with me here,” the raven-haired girl teased, finally turning to the groom and capturing a quick candid of his grinning face. “Do you ever think she doesn’t look gorgeous?”

a breath of bubbling laughter escaped kasper at the comment . there weren’t many people around atlanta that he called ‘ friends ‘ other than another raven-haired individual , one that was practically his sister given how long they’d known one another . it’s difficult to get close to anybody if you think the world is out to get you , but the male in question had managed to worm his way into his own life … somehow . “ you can call me kas , but yeah – i’m the man ‘n the myth , the legend some might say .. me and weston are pretty close but in the way where we just tease the fuck out of one another until one of us snaps . he’s a good guy , though , changes my opinion on you somewhat . maybe you aren’t so bad after all , “ with a nudge kasper offered the girl a crooked smile . if they were in a video game you would’ve seen their relationship meter inch upwards , an entry-level trust being granted to the other through a mutual accomplice . the curly-haired boy may be rather closed off at times but of late he’d tried to let other’s in instead of living life cooped up in his own box . “ nah , i haven’t seen anything other than a few planes and some sparkling stars in the distance . i really thought i’d see little green men tonight , but i guess i was mistaken . maybe you should take me to roswell some time so we can really get a good look at things . i bet the energy is amazing there , even if it is a damn tourist trap money-maker nowadays , “

The rough form of an other-worldly head took shape on the paper in front of her, the tips of her fingers already smudged with pencil, dragging streaks of lead across the page and only adding to the messy look of her drawing. Talk of Weston came easy to Wren; she’d grown up trailing along behind him, wanting to be just like the older male, to learn from him so she could live peacefully. Instead, he had protected her their entire lives, taking it upon himself to make sure everyone that treated her poorly was put in their places. “He has the tendency of doing that,” she finally muttered, her eyes on Kasper now as he seemed to flip the switch on his attitude. “He’s easy to tease, but he’s also quick-witted so you have to be careful of how you position things. I’d like to think I made him an expert at that craft, but I don’t really want to toot my own horn in the process.” Though she took in the charming smile on his features, Wren’s own expression stayed rather cool, her fingers rifling at the edge of the page in her notebook before she turned her attention elsewhere; she was too used to people treating her different within a moment’s notice just because of her brother, but she figured she’d at least play along. “You tell me when and I’ll gladly take you to Roswell with me. It is a tourist trap, but I have the advantage of knowing where to go to avoid everyone that’s there just for the hell of it. I know people.”

Making Atlanta his home hadn’t been an easy journey for Reece, but the easiest part of it all hands down was meeting @wrendigobird​.  There was something about the girl that felt like a magnet, and Reece felt like they were destined to be friends.  Between their occasional Victorian children appearance, and their very strong artistic personalities, Reece often regret not meeting her sooner, but that wasn’t something he could control by any means.

He was curled up in one of the chairs at her place, scribbling furiously in a notebook while she was sorting through photos they had taken earlier that day, and once he finished with what he was writing, he got up to loom behind her, getting a look at the images she had captured.  “So, remind me again why you don’t offer your services for like…. hundreds of dollars?  I swear you’re better than like half the people my family ever paid for portraits.”

There were few people Wren could just sit in silence with and not feel entirely tense, and Reece certainly was one of them. She’d always believed in the idea of platonic soulmates, and after they discovered each other when she moved to Atlanta, her theory was only further proven. Besides, he was one of the few people she could convinced to put on a frilly shirt and sit in front of the camera, and that fact alone told Wren that he was a permanent fixture in her life. 

Hardly alarmed by him moving closer to her, the raven-haired girl smiled softly to herself, eyes focused on the images they had captured just a few hours before. “I don’t believe in making people pay for my work,” she muttered, half-turning to glance up at her friend. “Not my friends, anyway. besides, this is good practice for me, and good subject matter for my portfolio.” Plucking one picture out in particular, she held it up to him, eyes bright. “This is my favorite.”
