“A new year of hell? I thought we were saying good-bye to the year of hell,” she replied. It wasn’t hard to see the guy was almost drunk if not fully drunk. Watching him take another shot frustrated Ayden that she couldn’t have one herself.

"That's what they want you to think. We're all hunky dory about 2017 because we haven't seen what's going to happen next. I mean, hopefully less people die this year, or whatever." Ronan raised his brows at his own question before trying to decide if he should take another shot or not.

Jacob snapped the photo and sent it off to his mother, hoping she would accept that it wasn’t just a rouse. “I have real friends, yes, but not ones that can be in here or have the iron balls like I do to sneak in here,” Jacob said with a little wink attached to it. “But thanks man.”

"Wait, sneak in here? How old even are you?" He quipped the question with a brow raised and fingers reaching for another shot. Then again, Ronan had no rights to object: his seventeenth birthday present was an alcohol addiction. "Ah, fuck it I guess. Want a shot?"

Brandon shook his head in distress. “I don’t even want to talk about it. I mean, Prince. Come on.” Taking the shot in hand, he threw it back and tossed the glass back down to the bar, letting it spin on its edge. “I know time is just a manmade concept and nothing has actually changed but I’m glad for 2017 because I really felt like death was out for anyone at that point.”

"Time is definitely conceptual," Ronan stopped mid-sentiment to down another shot. "I mean like, it was basically created by man because we wanted answers for why the sun went down and the moon went up and humans naturally seek stabiity so of course they made up time and dates and years. 2016 was out to kill us. Every single one of us."

“Well, let’s get even more drunk then.” Brandon appeared by the male’s side with a smile and ordered another round of shots. “I don’t think 2017 could get worse than 2016.”

"God, you're right." Ronan eyed the incoming shots like he was ready to down them the moment they were set on the table. "I mean, Carrie fucking Fisher? Really dude? Redefined going out with a bang."

“Well that was depressing,” he said looking over at the other. “Drink some more, maybe you’ll change your outlook.” The new year didn’t even start and someone was already being a downer. 

“Any more and I could puke, but here goes nothing.” The next shot was downed with ease he acquired in high school, glass clattering against the table again. “And what’s your outlook on it?”

"Here's to a new year of hell. I'm not nearly drunk enough." The words had been a careless murmur as he slipped another shot down his throat. Being drunk, he decided, wasn't as fun as it used to be.

“Can you you, I dunno, but a little spontaneous right now and help a guy out?” he asked, mimicking how the other man worded his sentence and the tone he used. Jacob kept his eyes on the phone, waiting for the other guy to make some sort of expression. “Hurry up or that face is going to be immortalized on my mom’s phone and shown around church.”

“Okay, fine.” He murmured as a hesitant grin graced over his features -- an expression saved for annual Christmas cards or obligatory reunion photos. Once the moment was over, his face returned to it’s normal state of unamusement. “Like I said, do you not have any real friends to take a real photo with?”

“Just smile and pretend you know me. My mom thinks I have friends and she wants pictures of meat New Years,” Jacob said, holding up his phone in front of him and the other person to talk a picture. “I promise I’ll delete it as soon as we are done.”

“What the hell?” Ronan’s gaze flickered upwards towards the person right before he snapped a photo. Was the guy really this desperate? “Don’t you have, I’unno, any real friends to take pictures with?” His tone was aggravated but nonetheless curious.

“Hey, so don’t look now, but I overheard that Grade-A hottie over there saying they had their eye on you. You should definitely go chat them up…”

"I'll pass. I'm sure she'll find a good new years kiss somewhere else and I have no intentions on kissing some stranger."

It didn’t take Annalise very long to lose her companion in the massive crowd inside of the Opry. Part of her contemplated searching for Henley but the brunette quickly found herself distracted by another familiar silhoutte. “Look what baby New Year dragged in.” She teased approaching who she thought was a close friend. “I thought you were too old for this shit.”

"While it’s true that I'm too old for this," Ronan mumbled, “I think you’ve got the wrong guy.”
