Excuse me?
Just remember. There is no such thing as a fake geek girl. There are only fake geek boys. Science fiction was invented by a woman.
Specifically a teenage girl. You know, someone who would be a part of the demographic that some of these boys are violently rejecting.
Isaac Asimov.
yo mary shelley wrote frankenstein in 1818 and isaac asimov was born in 1920 so you kinda get my point
If you want to push it back even further Margaret Cavendish, the duchess of Newcastle (1623-1673) wrote The Blazing World in 1666, about a young woman who discovers a Utopian world that can only be accessed via the North Pole - oft credited as one of the first scifi novels
Women have always been at the forefront of literature, the first novel (what we would consider a novel in modern terms) was written by a woman (Lady Muraskai’s the Tale of Genji in the early 1000s) take your snide “Isaac Asimov” reblogs and stick it
even in terms of male scifi authors, asimov was predated by Jules Verne, HG Wells, George Orwell, you could have even cited Poe or Jonathan Swift has a case but Asimov?
PbbBFFTTBBBTBTTBBTBTTT so desperate to discredit the idea of Mary Shelly as the mother of modern science fiction you didn’t even do a frickin google search For Shame
And if you want to go back even further, the first named, identified author in history was Enheduanna of Akkad, a Sumerian high priestess.
Kinda funny, considering this Isaac Asimov quote on the subject:
Mary Shelley was the first to make use of a new finding of science which she advanced further to a logical extreme, and it is that which makes Frankenstein the first true science fiction story.
Even Isaac Asimov ain’t having none of your shit, not even posthumously.
You know what else was invented by women? Masked vigilantes, the precursor to the modern superhero. Baroness Emma Orczy wrote The Scarlet Pimpernel in 1905. The character would later inspire better known masked vigilantes such as Zorro and Batman.
Got that?
Stick that in your international pipe and smoke it
I have literally been telling people this for over a year.
the first extended prose piece - ie a novel, was not, as many male scholars will shout, Don Quixote (1605) but The Tale of Genji (1008) written by a woman
The first autobiography ever written in English is also attributed to a woman, The Book of Margery Kempe (1430s).
The day may come when I find this post and do not reblog it, but it is not this day.
Women invented language while men were hunting. I mean…

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Secrets Explained
What Easter eggs are hidden in Star Wars: The Last Jedi? In this special roundtable interview, Star Wars Show host Andi Gutierrez speaks with the Lucasfilm Story Group’s Leland Chee, Pablo Hidalgo, Matt Martin, and Rayne Roberts about the secrets of the latest film in the saga.
Here’s the transcript of the Reylo portion! ~13 min in.
Rayne:… the little subtleties when you have the Rey and Kylo Force connection moments. How the sound from each of their minds kindof seeps into the other and just that simple way of telegraphing that they are connected.
Pablo: That’s something that Rian had in his, his idea from the very start that we would use a very low tech basically in camera cinematic trick to understand those two are communicating. He could have done a version where there was all sorts of wizardry shaping the screen, but no. It’s just the oldest cinematic trick in the book.
Rayne: (smiling) Eyelines and…
Pablo: Yeah, and it works.
Matt: Just the eyeline itself just completely sells it.
Rayne: Mhmm.
Leland: Plus, there’s some dialogue in there that Kylo Ren says. “Can you see me? I can’t see you—“
Andi: That’s why he was shirtless the next time.
*group laughter*
Pablo: Cuz you never know.
Andi: (imitates weight lifting) Ninety-nine!
Pablo: (imitates weight lifting) Working on these guns!
Andi: One hundred!
Pablo: Oh, I didn’t see you there!
Andi: Oh hey!
Matt: He actually spent a lot of time shirtless just hoping for that connection to kick in. (puts his finger on his cheek and turns his face, imitating Kylo giving a coy look) Oh. Sorry.
*group laughter*
Andi: (smiling and shaking her head) So good, so good…
Rayne: Well, it kindof all goes back to something Larry Kazdan used to talk about when we were doing Force Awakens, which is that, and it’s not in the script, but when he peers into her mind there’s something profound that happens between them and the way that Larry used to describe it was that there is this energy between them like this kindof (smiling) almost, and I don’t want to say it, but like something a little bit more than you would expect and I think it’s fun to see it play out in this story as well.
Andi: That was something—
Pablo: It feels like there’s definitely a door opened between the two of them in The Force Awakens where they pull from each other in terms of skills and memories and then that is more poignant in the end when that door essentially closes (shot of Rey closing Falcon door on Kylo from TLJ) and it’s sort of, it’s the Godfather shot of the door closing between Michael and Kay, and it’s like (gestures with hand closing toward his own face) the Millennium Falcon door separates them.
Andi: Actually, the connection between Rey and Kylo made me think a lot about the connection between Ezra and Maul that we see in Rebels. Something happens with them in the Force that links them. That’s something that we’ve seen before.
Pablo: That’s true. I think Rian and Dave share a lot ideas and commonalities…
End of Reylo discussion.
@felixazrael thanks Felix for this goodie. I’m at work and I don’t think I would have been able to wait till I get off.
if it still isn’t obvious, im a reylo shipper now <3

Malala is spending her 20th birthday fighting for girls’ education in Iraq
It’s been a big week for Malala Yousafzai.
On Friday, the women’s rights advocate announced from her newly launched Twitter account that she’d graduated high school.
“Graduating from secondary school … is bittersweet for me,” she wrote. “I’m excited about my future, but I know that millions of girls around the world are out of school and may never get the opportunity to complete their education.”
Yousafzai, not one to waste any opportunity, is already at work trying to help other girls have the same chance.
On Tuesday, she celebrated her 20th birthday a day early in Iraq by way of her “Girl Power Trip,” an initiative that involves Yousafzai traveling around the world to talk to girls who have struggled trying to access education. Read more (7/12/17)
