okay so valeria has a birthmark on her wrist in the shape of a star. in her community, every family had a specially shaped birthmark – some in the shape of animals, others in the shape of objects. the birthmark basically shows that you are related to a certain family. they also cannot be removed in any way. ( the most extreme cases of disowning children involved cutting off the limb where the birthmark was . this was rare. )

despite her entire people being dead, valeria has still attempted to remove the birthmark. she is trying to rid herself of whatever grief she may have, simply because she was brought back and no one else was. she lived, and everyone else died. she has many methods which have left her with a scarred right wrist.

she still hates it.
