As a 19-year-old sophomore at Stanford, Elizabeth Holmes decided to transform diagnostic medicine so she dropped out of college and used her tuition money to start her own company, Theranos. Ten years later, Holmes, pictured here holding a micro-vial, is on the cutting edge of medical technology — her new blood testing method allows hundreds of tests to be run using only a few drops of blood. And, Holmes’ methods are cheaper, faster, more accurate, and less invasive than conventional methods which often require a separate vial of blood for every test. As Holmes told Wired.com earlier this year, “I started this company because I wanted to spend my life changing our health care system. When someone you love gets really sick, most of the time when you find out, it’s too late to be able to do something about it. It’s heartbreaking… We wanted to make actionable health information accessible to people everywhere at the time it matters most. That means two things: being able to detect conditions in time to do something about them and providing access to information that can empower people to improve their lives.”

Reasons you should adore Elizabeth Holmes:
She is featured as Forbes’ youngest self-made woman billionaire.
Her tests will revolutionize the public health world as we know it; Making diagnostic testing accessible and affordable for more people (and potentially saving Medicare and Medicaid ~$100 billion each over the next decade). (x)
She is a coauthor on 82 US and 189 foreign patent applications. (x)
Her fear of needles served as a motivator for launching Theranos. (x)

MASH is great because larry gelbart was like “i want to make a tv show criticizing american involvement in the vietnam war” and cbs was like “No you’re gonna make a tuesday night family sitcom” and alan alda was like “the studio has tricked me, circus trained alan alda, into being here, so i’m going to portray a closeted bisexual” and larry linville was like “i’m in a three stooges ripoff!”
I'm usually lukewarm on "fandom + text posts" but the thing about M*A*S*H is that Hawkeye literally just talks like that. The posts will work for the other characters but so often I will see a post pinned on a screencap of Hawkeye and I can so clearly envision him saying the whole thing, with only minor edits for slang/cadence, if any in the first place. I don't know how to explain it if you haven't seen the show, but I know if you have you'll understand intuitively. Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce was born to be a tumblrina and instead he was stuck in Korea a hundred years ago.
trying to get irl friends into watching mash is insane, i'll be like "have you heard about this critically-acclaimed, emmy-award-winning, 11-seasons-long sitcom-turned-dramedy that established the A-plot-B-plot structure of modern tv writing and to this day holds the all-time record for the most concurrent viewers on a single episode of any tv show ever?" and they'll be like "no i haven't!"
just watched the MASH episode where the unit receives an absurd truckload of tongue depressors and hawkeye is so depressed/angry at the thought of the military being there long enough to use all of them that he starts building a replica Washington Monument out of them, with the names of all their past patients written on it. this is not played as being fun or funny to him. Then, when the army sends an information guy to the unit to see if they could use the art piece as a Recuitment Tool, hawkeye rigs it with explosives and blows it up in front of him.
Hashtag classic mash…
the real antidote to the problem of "everyone is beautiful and no one is horny" is watching old horny shows like mash. nothing but perfectly normal-looking, homely, average people in that show who hook up with each other or unseen partners on a regular basis. hawkeye is absolutely drowning in sex and the man has such a bizarre mismatched set of randomly strong and weak facial features on a noodle body with dogshit posture. and it's GREAT. you can't tell how soft his jawline is because there's always a woman kissing his neck and blocking the camera. i know i riff on people saying they want to fuck mulcahy until he has a religious epiphany but as a butch lesbian with that exact face shape it's been so healing to be like. ohhhh ok so sexuality and attractiveness isn't just limited to the perfect beautiful poreless people on netflix. i understand now
One of the things I love about Hawkeye is how completely unstoic he is. If he's in any kind of pain, or even just discomfort, he pouts and whinges and bitches and shrieks. You could never write in-character fanfic where he heroically keeps silent about his injury before passing out. If Hawkeye was bleeding out, the whole of Korea would know about it.
