“Every animal is unpredictable and has the possibility to kill you. You ever tried to bathe a cat?” The assertion is equal parts absurdist and morbid humor, and of course Payton laughs at it. They’re the funniest person they know, after all. “And, anyway, most non domesticated animals are illegal as pets. Other than, like, snakes. Now, the discussion of the ethics of modern domestication for the sole purpose of making an animal a pet, that’s a more complicated situation. Like, yeah, we’ve got domesticated foxes, but, like, should we?”
“Yeah,I have a cat. I’ve been giving it-” She caught off at the laughter coming from the other person and realized they were playing her. Which she didn’t respond to, instead choosing to answer their next question. “I’d say no. The human race wants to control other species, but we really don’t need to.”
piperxandrews:
Piper chuckled. "Yeah, for someone that’s supposed to be fighting fires as my number one job, I spend a lot of time just coming to the scene of people being dumbasses,“ she said, slipping her hands into her pockets and following the woman’s gaze over to her dog. "I think I would be a dog person if I didn’t work so much. At least cats are fine spending the majority of their day alone, I’d feel like I was torturing a dog." She smirked. “But yeah, in general? Animals are much better than people.”
With a light nod, she ran her hand over the dog’s head before taking the ball to throw again. “Well, my career involves dogs. Went to college for it and everything. But I have a cat, too.” Ariel turned back to the women opposite her. “So, what’s is firefighting like? Like is it super glamorous? Or does TV make it that way?”
Just enjoying our midday walk.

Sorry I wasn’t around today. I took my sister to dinner and Aquaman right after I got off work. I totally recommend going to see it if you love superhero movies! I promise replies will come tomorrow night!
piperxandrews:
“I don’t think half the people I rescue from themselves don’t have common sense. Even a little bit of it,” she said with a roll of her eyes. "Not offended,“ Piper said with a small laugh. "I haven’t been single that long, I promise. It’s just two cats. And only one was mine originally. The other one just kinda stayed after my ex moved out, so she’s officially mine now I think. Possession being 9/10ths and all.”
“Yeah. People can do really stupid things sometimes.” Ariel’s gaze moved to the yard in front of her. She, watched her dog bound after the ball she had just thrown, kicking up snow in her wake. “Well, owning two cats definitely doesn’t make you a crazy cat lady. I’m more of a dog person myself. I have a few pets. Not a bad deal, if you ask me.”
piperxandrews:
“Oh yeah, those have probably more potential for disaster, I would think,” Piper said with a smirk. "But yeah, he wasn’t the brightest bulb. Even after that he had a shit fit when animal control took the thing away.“ Piper rolled her eyes. "I promise my cats are normal sized. Still assholes, but that’s a cat domain.”
“He doesn’t sound like he’s uses his common sense.” Ariel agrees with a dip of her head. “So, would you be offended if I ask if you’re moving towards the ‘crazy cat lady’?” She asks, even using the air quotation marks.
danceralbrecht:
“Well, that’s very true honestly. I know some of them didn’t like me too much and would cower, but most of them came up to me and treated me like I was actually their pup. Mein vati actually had a photo of me riding on the back of one of them. But true. I mean, I’d love to have a wolf again, or at least a wolf dog.”
“That does sound pretty awesome, though. I love the animal documentaries. They’re very entertaining to me. I think that’d be the most non-domesticated animal I would ever want to own.”
erencree-sir:
“It actually just depends on the breed, I think. The yellow anacondas aren’t as aggressive as the green anacondas, though. That’s for sure.”
“Yeah, well, like I said; I don’t know anything about snakes. Besides them being cool. Not the type of exotic I was thinking.”
xmrsantiagox:
“Oh yeah. Tell me about it.” He nodded his head. “And that feeling gets worse when you have children, because you never know what can hurt your babies, so it puts you in overdrive fear.”
“...I wasn’t thinking about that. It should definitely be added to the reasons why owning a non-domesticated animal as a pet can be serious hazard- not just for yourself, but for your family. Possibly your community, too.”
danceralbrecht:
“Well.. A tiger is a cat, so you can’t even really trust them anyways. My uncle used to have a wolf sanctuary… Kind of… Not really, but… You know what I mean. He raised them from babies and never once got hurt. Most of them even loved when I would come by as a kid and snuggle up to me.”
“I would think wolves have more loyalty then other animals, being part of the canine family. But each wolf is different. Just like each animal is. I just wouldn’t want to own one unless I knew it’s ancestral history. Your uncle has had contact with each pup and knows that stuff. Most people don’t do that kind of research on their future/current pets.”
danceralbrecht:
“Way to offend a man who’s thinking of getting a Possum… They’re not as bad as people think they are. They’re just like a dog. Give them attention and they’re calm.”
“But you actually have a chance of surviving an attack from a possum. A four hundred pound tiger, not so much. As for owning one, I’ll take your word for it.”
erencree-sir:
“I can’t say anything. I had a yellow anaconda as a teenager. But I was lucky that he was a pretty content and well fed snake.”
“I don’t know much about snakes, but they don’t seem as aggressive as other exotic pets.”
piperxandrews:
“What, like a raccoon or something? I got sent out on a call for that once. Jackass thought he could keep a raccoon as a pet and it ate half his face off. That’s why I stick to cats.”
“I was actually thinking of big cats and wolves. Of course there are exceptions, but most don’t make good pets. Those kinds of animals. This guy adopted a grown raccoon? Sounds like he didn’t think that through.”
abraham-taylor:
Bram sat in front of the biggest fish tank in the aquarium, watching the various species of fish swim around each other like a perfectly organised society. It always calmed him to watch them move in the water, and boy did he need that after the start of the year he had had. He was pulled from his trance like state by the appearance of someone next to him, and thinking it was the worker telling him they weer closing said absently, “Just five more minutes please?”
This wasn’t Ariel’s usual scene, but spending most of the past two months around people, she needed less human interaction. Hence, the reason that she came to the aquarium in the evening rather than during the day. She hadn’t even noticed the person that was standing next to her, until they spoke. Ariel hesitated- would it be impolite not to respond? With an inward sigh, she decided to just answer the boy. “Well, sorry to disappoint you; I don’t work here.”
“Non-domesticated animals are cute as babies and all, but I wouldn’t want a pet that can be unpredictable. And, y’know, possibly kill you.”
