Weyland Yutani Incident Record CR197

System: Alpha Centauri A Planet: Jemison Moon A - Kurtz Purpose: Search & Rescue / Salvage Operations

Report: An unregistered ship crashed within 30km of a Weyland Yutani mining operation on Jemison's moon Kurtz. Local search and rescue efforts were dispatched but recovered no survivors. The ship appeared to have been on an automated flight path to Jemison with no pilot on the console. The wreckage indicates the ship was not equipped with a grav drive and its log indicates it has been on an automated flight path towards a then uncharted Alpha Centauri for over 200 years.

The only discovered occupant was the ships medical officer, a retired model Con-Am synthetic which was put out of service by the crash. The synthetic was notably surrounded by numerous stuffed toys and comfort material indicating a severe degradation in social protocols from extreme isolation. It is surmised that the ships original crew died at some point early in the journey after evacuating earth, leaving the isolated synthetic aboard ship with no way to communicate or pilot the vessel given its limited programming as a medical assistant.

The company has declared the site legal salvage and has begun scrapping operations in accordance with United Colonies law. Given the age of the synthetic, its utility would be minimal for activation so it has been sent for recycling at the nearest depot.

Weyland Yutani Expedition Record 27-B Planet: Guniibuu II Purpose: Search & Rescue of Missing MAST Xenobiology Team Report 1/3: Autopsy of recovered MAST Team and Marine escort confirms previously undiscovered 0.09 micron pathogen which in combination with the corrosive levels of CO2 in the atmosphere, degrades the performance of standard Level 4 scrubbers to allow passage at low volume. It consists of a single non-reproductive pollen spore, something we believe is used as a form of communication between native grasses - perhaps to communicate high water content. The corrosive nature of the spore in contact with the human body, which consists mostly of water, leads to dehydration, neurological disruption, and death.

Test results are sealed and referred back to P4C for further research. All affected biohazards disposed of.

Report 2/3: Now fully aware of the risks posed by the native plantlife, further survey teams were deployed across the region to map other uncategorized flora. Nineteen other species of interest were cataloged and samples taken, but none showing any particularly novel uses at this stage. Referred back to P4C for pharmacological studies. Surveys were largely uneventful save two incidents described in the next report.

Report 3/3A: Survey Teams encountered a downed ship being salvaged by what were at first thought to be Crimson Fleet pirates, but closer examination revealed participants to belong to some as yet unidentified faction carrying mostly cryogenic weapons. Survey teams avoided contact and returned to ship.

Report 3/3B: During preparation for ship departure, the captain of the UCSS Pioneer spotted an invasive terrormorph prowling in the treeline and as per our contract with United Colonies, organized a kill team in short order. The specimen was an immature, allowing to be killed with small arms fire quickly. The remains were then disposed of within UC protocols.

Weyland Yutani Expedition Record 27-A Planet: Guniibuu II Purpose: Search & Rescue of Missing MAST Xenobiology Team Report 1/3: Team arrived planetside safely and immediately set about ground search in last reported sector. Planet atmospherics contain corrosive levels of CO2 requiring Level 4 suit protection but oxygen scrubbers effective for air recycling, however team opts for internal air cycling as a precaution.

Report 2/3 : Missing MAST team found in short order, all dead. Bodies discovered in contorted states indicating massive seizure. Assumption is pathogenic exposure. Bodies recovered for autoposy. Team then set out for nearby UC Marine outpost the scientists were operating out of.

Report 3/3 : All Marine personnel discovered dead from same assumed pathogen. Bodies recovered for study. Team noted all deceased personnel were wearing Level 4 protection but utilized in situ air scrubbers for CO2 recycling into O2. Working theory is previously undiscovered pathogen is not effectively neutralized by standard oxygen scrubbers. WY Recovery team established a secure perimeter on the outside of the base and camped overnight. Night cycle estimated to be 19 hours on this planet, meaning carried O2 will be low by morning necessitating immediate return to ship after daybreak.
