It was ridiculous, Paul knew that, but some mornings he needed to get out before heading for the clinic. Today was one of those days. Jacket zipped right up to his chin, walking boots and socks on his feet, a mission in mind. It was five a.m. and he was power walking his way down one of the streets of North Roxton, fully intending on getting a couple of miles in before he needed to make his way to work. He was rounding a corner on the edge of town when he finally spotted someone, greeting them with a perhaps a little too cheery, “Here’s me thinking I’d be the only one awake!”
Wyatt was no stranger to being awake at the oddest of hours. Most often it was because he was either about to start work or just leaving, but sometimes it was his lack of restful sleep that kept him busy. On this particularly chilly morning, the man found himself wandering the streets of North Roxton with a coffee in one hand and Luna’s leash in the other. She trotted alongside him, all dressed in proper winter attire despite the struggle he had faced to get her booties on.
Nevertheless, the husky looked comfortable and Wyatt sipped from his reusable coffee container easily.
As he rounded a familiar corner, making sure Luna walked on the inside and away from the road, Wyatt heard a familiar voice. “Doctor Matthews,” Wyatt began, giving the man a humble nod. “Guess you never know what keeps people up nowadays. Coming or going?” The question was in reference to whether or not the man was coming from work or heading to it, mostly because Wyatt (being an Emergency Physician himself) understood that a lot of healthcare providers in North Roxton worked strange hours.
