last night i dreamt of rúnestelle in a tiger form 🤔

yesterday, my family took a drive up to see my grandfather who is in a nursing home right now. it’s a pretty long drive and before we left i could feel rune really wanting to be in his maned wolf form. they evidently chose to settle into its eastern quoll form and they curled up in my lap or more so on my toothless blanket that was bunched up next to me for most, if not the entire drive there.

i actually slept during the ride there so it worked.

on the way back rune was sitting on my shoulder and was a lot more alert but that went for me too. we stopped projecting sometime during the car ride because my head got too loud and distracted with processing thoughts from the day.

im hesitant on the eastern quoll as one of rune’s introspective forms. i don’t know why i don’t like it, but im slowly learning to love it.

one way i love connecting to my dae is by learning mythology about their forms.

the maned wolf is rune’s most prominent choice when appearing as one of his introspective forms.

maned wolves are of south american folklore. they are spiritual beings, shapeshifting creatures. in guarani mythology maned wolves are seen as a protector, a guardian of the wilderness. they are also treated as an elusive spirit that travels the high grasslands. Its habit of barking at twilight and its ability to blend into the tall savanna grass have earned it a reputation as a cunning trickster and a spirit that walks between the physical and supernatural worlds.

upon the arrival of european settlers, maned wolves were associated with the legend of lobizón (werewolves) due to their physical traits like its long legs and raised mane when frightened or angry.

trying to project and make conversation when i realise that rune doesn’t come on strongly because he’s the more reserved but always observant part of me, only chiming in only when needing too. just a quiet but constant presence.

I believe that its perfectly normal to NEVER be satisfied with the form your dæmon settles as. By extension, I believe that most people are never going to be at peace with themselves, unsatisfied with the way they are, how they look, act, think, etc etc. Because of the personal perceptions that society often pushes on everyone, most people will never accept themselves just as they are. Ive seen that only on the deathbed do people find peace, and even then sometimes it doesnt happen. The way you view yourself is a cornerstone to the way you view your dæmon.

And perhaps its the autism speaking, but I enjoy analytical analysis of dæmon forms, and believe them more than a symbolic analysis for myself. Because it seems conclusive and totally absolute when the traits of a specific form match up with the traits of my personhood. I know thats who I am, so that MUST be my dæmon. And sometimes I dont like who I am.

Polar Bears are not my favorite animal, nor did I even consider that shape when I started out dæmon-searching. But the more I researched analytic forums the more and more it all connected, they were all spot on and it felt so sure that form was correct for Memore. And he's been that form for the last 2 years, but there are times I DO wish for a different form. The physical limitations, the stereotype-perceptions of polar bear forms, and my personal biases for other forms sometimes makes me personally feel incomplete, BUT THATS NORMAL! Everyone's gonna have their moments of second-guessing and thats normal. Despite my troubles, I still would never want Memore to change from what he is now, because every other form possesses traits and qualities that just arent me. Even if I dislike some of those qualites that make me- me, they connect me to my dæmon; and some days that manifests into feeling joyously content and some days spitefully yearning. I believe understanding that spectrum is the steps to begin accepting your dæmon.

maybe this is just a thought process exclusive to me, but maybe it could help people struggling with their settled form, who knows.

i tried so hard to convince myself

that rune wasn’t one,

but with every form i considered

we kept coming back to the strange long legged canid.

and so it was settled.

we’re fairly new to all this, but what i love about this journey into daemonism is that it is a rather beautiful way to understand yourself. to look deeper than surface level. in a way it feels like self love. you sit down and really think about yourself, you literally reach out and learn about who you are by taking the time to listen and embrace the parts of you that may otherwise remain hidden.

all of rúnestelle’s forms have a meaning, they connect with me in some way, i love them for that.
