Yall know Bring It On was a metaphor about cultural approp…..nevermind
Nah say it Bring It On was a movie of how the white girls stole the Black girls shit
^^they stay jockin
Bring it on was about cheerleading, it could even be argued that it was about intellectual property theft or the fairness in competition. Shit, you could even say it was about the fact that schools in lower income communities are not able to provide for their students in ways that schools in other communities can; but the movie was not about cultural appropriation.
Its okay mama it went over a lot of our heads too.
Still my favorite post.
How could somebody watch this movie and NOT get that it was about cultural appropriation??? Like, it wasn’t even really subtext, it was just text??? I saw that movie before I’d ever even heard the term cultural appropriation and the message behind it was obvious to me.
The movie isn’t just about cultural appropriation, it’s also about how you should react to cultural appropriation. If someone tells you, “hey, this isn’t cool, man”, you don’t go “well fuck off I do what I want.” No, you listen, say sorry and you STOP DOING THE THING. Once the Torros found out that Big Red had (completely unbeknownst to them) stolen all of their routines from the Clovers, they took steps to STOP it, and to make it right with the Clovers. The Torros KNEW it wasn’t right, once it was pointed out to them. And they stopped doing the thing. That’s how people should react when they’re told they’re appropriating someone’s culture.

Ten lessons I learnt in search of Telos
Ten lessons I learnt in search of Telos
Telos is extracted from the Greek word τέλος which means “end”, “purpose“, or “goal”. The search for Telos has set man on an endless pursuit, a good example is the Greek philosopher, Aristotle who’s name coincidentally means “The best purpose”. He believed that man moves from an imperfect state to a perfect state in a teleological development – that the essential nature of things lay not at their…

A Wallflower in the middle of a busy road.
A Wallflower in the middle of a busy road.
Nambi sat at the bus stop waiting for her bus to arrive. She pulled out the tiny mirror that was gifted to her by her sister; she always carried in her purse now. She proceeded to looking at herself to see if there were any traces of African groundnut husks stuck in her teeth. She had a whole tin of roasted groundnuts in her suitcase; her mother had roasted them for her and made sure she packed…

Our father, who art in heaven Thy will be done on earth, But do you see what is going on earth? Who art in Libya? As they strip and auction off Your creation like they can afford it. Do they not know the time it took? For you to mould man from earth to being How you put together tiny grains of dust And spun limbs, nails, eyes and teeth. But here we are selling each other Cause of the love of a dollar. Our Father who art in heaven, We are in hell, one that we have created For the love of wealth and power We have sold our souls and will power, And we wear it perfectly, Our burnt bacon crisp skins; torched and smoked Letting the smell of gasoline and fire linger In our clothes and hair, in our choices, In our eyes, as they reflect the flames Soot from the smoke staining our souls. Our father, I often wonder, if this is how demons are made From bones and flesh From bones feeding on flesh From greed feeding on flesh From man feeding on another. Is this how the devil came to be? Is this the sixth hour, Is our time nearly over? I wonder, but never the less Our Father, who art in heaven Please forgive us our trespasses, Our greed and discontent, Lead us not into temptation, But oh Lord, please deliver us from this evil, For you are the power and the glory, Amen.
