assorted hcs.

edie, erik's mother, is a mix of mizrahi and ashkenazi jewish. her father was mizrahi, her mother was ashkenazi and from poland; this, paired with the fact max had a crush on young magda when they were small children whom primarily understood romany and polish, lent itself to a multiple confluence of language use in the eisenhardt household. edie spoke fluent polish, so, in time, the eisenhardt children started picking it up as well. max's language progression goes yiddish - german (learned equally and simultaneously to the point even modern day erik sometimes starts weaving the languages together when speaking absent mindedly, which is funny since yiddish is effectively a hybrid between hebrew and german already), hebrew, polish, russian, and finally english. the multilingual status of the household ensured that the eisenhardts could speak relatively privately to one another when german fascism began to take root in dusseldorf.

this makes erik a tiny bit mizrahi. not enough that he strongly connects with it but enough to acknowledge it is part of his lineage.

jakob's side of the family is ashkenazi jews all the way down with minimal variation. his father was named yussel, and while he loved his children, he was a reticent and stony man. jakob resolved to be different--so his children would never question what he was feeling, or his thoughts. he was kinder, gentler, more open.

the voice i hear in my head when erik speaks is a mish mash of a few different people; he has the depth and sound of leonard cohen, the accent of someone like set roth from wolfenstein or the "israeli" accent (i hate to call it this, but thats the general association from others), and the way he tends to speak in normal one on one conversation is very similar to eva stratt's speech pattern in the film adaptation of phm.

the earliest records of erik's activity in america is laden with him being the target of arrest and police intervention at protests, and given how quickly he became a known reprobate to the local NYPD, he was treated very roughly. there's also plenty of footage and photos of 30 year old erik getting thrown onto the hoods of police cars or taken down to the ground before he had learned how to control his immense power. plenty as well of him throwing police vehicles around and unfastening the cuffs of fellow detained dissenters via his mutation. grandpa squares up.

his intel file wanes in the 1980s and 90s. not because of a lack of activity--erik was at his most active then, in fact--but because of the advent of largely available and popularized digital cameras. the electromagnetic waves and radio signals that make digital cameras (and smart phones, etc) work, is interrupted by erik's mutation in a completely unintentional way. in a radius surrounding his person, he is a negative black out zone. he cannot be clearly photographed, recorded, captured, depicted, etcetera, with any kind of digital device. there are analog cameras in erik's home in the rural adirondacks for family gathering purposes so he can be documented among his children and grand children.

this is a roleplay blog for marvel’s max eisenhardt / erik lehnsherr, aka magneto, 616 based with slight mcu influence. i have been writing erik for over a decade and my takes are personally developed and my own. do not lift from me, i will notice. (no, i do not think sharing in common fanon hcs is stealing).

i am not interested in writing an mcu exclusively based erik. please do not ever ask me to portray any version of FOX magneto. either you will work around this and have a meeting of 616 and mcu for your mcu character, or we will be writing a completely different au.

i am not mcu based, nor rivals based, or any other material based. i may take influence from these things from time to time, but the 616 is my comfortable home-verse. the only thing that is more xmcu leaning i incorporate into my portrayal is the idea that erik and raven have known each other since they were young. thats it.

i'm not a comic elitist or anything. i think both the mcu and 616 are immensely flawed. i just like the 616 universe best and struggle to navigate the mcu since that isn't erik me. plus, i openly despise fassbender.

i will write with mcu blogs despite my general dislike of the mcu, you just need to plot with me a little to figure things out. please don't feel uncomfortable on my blog about me disliking the mcu; it doesn't mean i dislike you or your character.

i have read, pretty much every single thing erik has been in pre krakoa. i am not completely caught up on post krakoa content or the end of krakoa, but this shouldnt be a problem anyway as i dont write erik in the krakoa era without massive alterations to the plotlines. i am not a krakoa fan and dont know how so many of you fell under the spell of mediocre writing. my favorite eras are genosha and headmaster magneto.

i do not think fictional taste equates to irl morals, but i also do not think fiction exists in a vacuum that does not influence or affect reality, it is a balance. learn to recognize propaganda while also engaging in freedom of speech and press. use your brain. the fact i have to say this on a roleplay blog is wild.

i’m completely open to shipping, this is just a forewarning that it is somewhat difficult to genuinely establish romantic connections with erik due to his nature and trauma. but i love ships of all kinds, even fucked up and toxic ones.

also i dont really ship erik with gaby (i dont really see it happening for one, and his heart wasnt open to women yet at that point as it was still occupied w magda; it takes until lorna's birth for him to be willing to date women again), but i do think charles was in a relationship with both erik and gaby in haifa more or less. erik was aware and didn't care, wasn't jealous, etc. (i like charles/gaby when its 'gaby is a recovering shoah survivor who falls in love with him' and not 'charles is preying on a vulnerable person', like wtf is that take.)

my point is that from the start he has kinda been david's third parent and is comfortable providing parenting to david that charles might not provide. he isn't part of their relationship--mostly because they're not close enough that i can see david caring who his father dated--but he has his own platonic relationship with david that mimics parental, if that makes sense. gaby was his friend, too, and someone his beloved, loves.

  It has been a worm in his brain ever since Magneto uttered those words. How could it not be? To be told by someone David genuinely respects that they trust him, that they want him to survive, is so alien to David. So against the odds.

  And sure, their relationship, if that's what you can call it, hasn't been great. There was that time when David went back in time to kill Magneto. And that time, Magneto was tasked with killing David if he lost control. So, tumultuous at best. Which only makes what Magneto said on the surface of the red planet all the more baffling.

  David has gotten to the point where he's convinced himself it couldn't have been true. Had to be a lie. Had to be something said in the heat of the moment to manipulate him. Probably didn't even really believe he would survive against Uranos’ army of murder machines. Yeah, that's it. A lie to control him. Nothing more, nothing real.

  It used to be that he'd wallow in that. Let it sit and fester. It used to be that he wouldn't say anything. That he'd keep his fears and anger to himself. No one wants to see an insane dude get emotional, but this is eating at him too much.

  Thus, David Haller finds himself in Magneto's home. He didn't knock. He wasn't polite. He just teleported himself right into the building. And because David isn't great at small talk and pleasantries, he just gets right to it.

  “Why would y’ say that to me?” he asks, frowning and agitated. He's forgotten to specify what exactly it is he's talking about. A habit of a guy so used to being in his own head. “Tellin’ me that y’ trust me, that you want me to live. It … It doesn't make sense.”

the days go by long and hard, the sort where erik is more fragile and a could-be than a will-be. it could be that he'll live. it could be that all of this will resolve. it could be that their people will be safe, and free, and unburdened by cosmic judgment. it could be.

they're hard weeks, stretching in ways that feel like months if not years. and they make erik feel helpless, and stupid, and weak. they make him feel like the child he'd been, powerless to save his people, time and again, despite his unique position that facilitated the saving that never comes. he's learned no one will ever come for him, so he has to come for them.

still, damn them, for making him sit sideline. every time his chest twinges and pulses around the pain, he thinks he's going to collapse, that that one will be his last.

so, when david intrudes, it isn't exactly welcome. he's just lucky that it doesn't do his heart in right there, hand clapping over where the massive gorge of a wound had been, choking around a 'mein gott' and grumbles that don't particularly translate well in english. erik is in the middle of brewing an early morning coffee when david gives him his surprise, bringing his ministrations to a slow if not a halt. he turns so they're facing each other, taking a moment to assess him.

david isn't his son, but, frankly, he might as well be. sometimes, he thinks the patience he affords david remains to be forged between himself and charles; he loves david's father, but he sees every point of discourse made on charles' faults, and finds them--honest.

' you could do the polite thing and knock first, yingele. ' magneto's chide comes soft, sarcastic, without teeth. ' what? i-- ' and then david clarifies, sinking a hard, sad stone in erik's chest. he's quiet for a minute, adjusting the timer on the coffee pot. ' david.. come now. why would i not? i said it because it's the truth. do you want coffee? '

some mutation related hcs

erik doesn't need to move any part of his body to use his mutations, its more of a conductive habit. when he was young he did it to visualize his mutation and focus it, though it actually has no real effect. he can manipulate anything he can feel around him, moving his hands and eyes is just the easiest way for him to conceptualize and 'grab' the things around him.

erik could in theory adapt his mutation to produce what is basically normal electricity. but you need like a fucking masters in physics to understand this so im not even gonna bother, but electromagnetism and electricity are like two sides of a coin. if he ever figured that out he'd be fucking ridiculously unstoppable. he's already stupidly op.

erik's mutation works in a way where a telepath attempting to peek into his brain will be met with constantly-moving electrical synapses and impulses, hence why they will actually just have no signal. i do think its absolutely possible for a powerful telepath like charles or emma or jean to crack that shell and steady everything to peek in, but it takes effort and will hurt erik. charles has done it to him without his consent and it made his nose bleed / shocked him like a jolt to the brain. otherwise he has to work with the telepath to let them in; emma maintains a tenuous latch to his brain, so to speak, so she can reach out to him whenever she needs to without causing herself or him harm. charles, doesnt. (he loves charles to absolute death. but he doesn't trust him not to change something or pull a string. he knows the temptation is just too great for him, that he can't help himself, that it's even somewhat just reactive / an instinct. so he doesn't give him the line.)

when pietro is speeding around, erik cant see him by any means, but he can feel him. he feels his movement through the electromagnetic waves and natural gravitational pull in the earth, and could in theory 'grab' him. would only ever do this if absolutely necessary, though.

if erik thought he was going to lose control of himself in a location where he cared about what happened to the people around him (so most places, now, if populated), he would fly himself into the air as high as he could without passing out before he unleashed whatever was agitating him. he could, in theory, cause emp blackouts across the entire world, which would completely destroy modern infrastructure. he is well aware there is a reason why there are so many eyes on him, and why every nation's military has some kind of magneto contingency protocol. he's actually a bit amused by it.

regularly opens wormholes to jump distances if he feels its too far to fly. otherwise he'll fly there.

and yeah he can fly chest out, horizontal, superman-style or like most flying chars typically fly, but he just doesnt like it/doesnt want to fly like that. he likes being vertical. so yes erik typically flies upright and just manipulates his ascent and movements, i'm sure there are some very weird pictures out there that people think are UFO sightings and its really just erik hundreds of feet up flying toward something.

can magnetize himself to something and follow it across the world if he has to. this is something demonstrated in the xmcu i actually really like.

even though erik doesnt actively hate humans anymore (though frankly can you blame him for ever hating them to begin with) he does make it very clear every time he spares the life of one he knows possesses negative or hateful sentiments towards mutants they are only alive because someone (himself, or the x-men, or charles) is letting them live.
