I'll keep this short. The new demo is just the first six chapters. I rewrote them and reworked. I plan on reworking the chapters I have and then releasing them at a later date. This won’t happen too many times don’t worry.
I've changed quite a lot, but I think I can confidently say that outside of some potential balancing issues or things that will come up in playtesting, there should be no more major changes to the mechanics, outside of like...maybe one if I figure out how to get it to work, but it'll be fine.
Hopefully y'all enjoy. I'll try to be more vocal about updates in the future.
Hihi! Been a bit. New demo is FINALLY out I'll keep this short. The new demo is just the first six chapters. I rewrote them and reworked. I

Shields of Dawn does something fairly differently than most of the FE games/romhacks that I've seen. And that thing is having way too many Lords.
How it works for this concept is that, aside from Enid-who must be used on every main story map, you must deploy up to two other lords, with a maximum of five if you include Enid. Sometimes, a set of lords are force deployed depending on the campaign.
This post will show off the other lords that aren't Enid(the main character)
🔥Taurn, Solar Flare🔥
He/Him | Human | Class:Warmaster
I know I post about him a lot gimme a break
The crown prince of the Boventian Empire. A renowned warrior and noble who wants to be a pillar of strength to his allies, and to live up to the title of heir to his empire. He's headstrong, sociable and exudes an air of confidence, yet often feels afraid to show weakness in front of others.
Taurn is a strong frontliner with high physical stats and great potential for getting crits or dealing high amounts of burst damage. Though strong, he has lower magical resistance and has a middling speed stat.
❄️Leon, Knightly Ideal❄️
He/Him | Elf | Class: Lionheart
Crown prince of the kingdom of Phenloryn, after witnessing the extent of the chaos that runs amok in the kingdom, Leon goes on a journey to establish order and uproot chaos. He believes that, as a noble, it is his responsibility to help those of a lower class. While Leon is kind and just, his ideals and status are subject to be challenged by many.
Leon is a mounted tank with high speed and mobility, being able to dart around the battlefield with ease. His offenses are slightly lackluster on their own, but often he's resilient enough to hold his own on the front lines due to his high defenses.
🌲Sophia, Evergreen Duty🌲
She/Her | Satyr| Class: Auspex
Princess of the Queendom of Delka. With eyes falling on her to protect and rule the nation due to the disappearance of the queen(her mother), Sophia feels she may buckle under the pressure if her mother or her captors aren't found soon. She's a kind and energetic woman who cares deeply for her loved ones and her country. Her anxiety is often hidden from even her closest allies.
Sophia is a glass cannon with high strength and magic, but abysmal defenses. With high speed and evasion they will be able to handle themselves on the frontlines, especially around allies or in thick terrain.
🔮Noah, Enlightened Agent🔮
He/Him | Human | Class: Grandmaster
The youngest prince of the nation of Nocivett. His odd mannerisms, obsession with tactics and magic, and radical views on society have caused him to be seen as an outcast, yet many must admit his talent for strategy and combat. Still, he wishes to be seen as an equal to his peers and often endures countless struggles in hopes of conforming with his country's expectations.
Noah provides strong magical combat on a horse, though he's most notable due to their incredible supportive potential. He's skilled at rallying allies, to ensure victory with enchantments and buffs in order to rule out luck as a possibility, which ironically means his own luck is poor.
☀️Angeline,Heaven's Grace ☀️
She/Her | Human | Class: Saint
Daughter of the Archbishop of Phenloryn. She was sheltered all her life, not able to see the world, as she was deemed too frail to be a country's symbol of faith. But due to her desire to help others, she left her secure home, and decided to help those in need with what little strength she can muster up. She's often praised for her kindness and patience, but holds little confidence for herself due to her upbringing.
Angeline is a potent healer with incredible magical resistance, and decent enough evasion. She's not the strongest combat unit, but that’s less relevant thanks to offensive spells being strong, and her airborne utility on a pegasus.
🍃Wolfe, Verdant Wayfarer🍃
He/They | Half-Elf | Class: Hawkeye
A renowned mercenary from the union of Pakwil-Chonok, who unbeknownst him, is thr long lost heir of thr country's leader. Labeled a defect at birth he was tossed aside, and was to be raised by commoners and mercenaries, his lineage showing that he is supposedly destined for greatness. Wolfe is a cheerful, free spirit, who has a lot of pride in himself and their skills, and considers themself quite the charmer. But when it comes to the possibility of running a country, they're much less confident.
Wolfe is a flying archer with incredible speed and dexterity, meant to hunt down evasive units or enemy fliers. He makes up for frailty with high evasion and range, as well as decent damage.
🏔Shahriyar, Eclipsing Shadow🏔
He/Him | Human | Class: Mirage
The second prince of the Eastern Thuehaban. While his brother, crown prince Surya is the country's light and future, Shahriyar works from the shadows to make sure Surya's land isn't overflowing with chaos. He has a tongue as sharp as his skills, and is not afraid of dirtying his hands or his soul for the protection of the land he holds dear.
Shahriyar is very adept at getting critical hits, dodging most attacks and countering with debilitating debuffs, all while darting around the battlefield with ease. Their physical might may need a little assistance, but their utility in combat cannot be understated.
🪷Lalithya, Morning Bloom🪷
She/Her | Half-Elf | Class: Starseer
A princess form western Thuehaban, seeking to end the civil war that has been raging within the sultanate. Having lost much to war, plague and chaos, Lalithya has dedicated her life to uplifting people's spirits and spreading peace love and joy. She's very self-sacrificing, willing to endure pain and suffering if it means making sure the future of the people is still bright, many see her kindess as weakness or naivety.
Lalithya is an incredibly valuable support unit with high evasion and decent enough offenses if you must attack with her. But, her true calling is refreshing the turns of allies and providing healing or keeping her allies safe with her passive auras.
🌑Amethyst, Bewitched Blade🌑
She/Her | Elf | Class: Gremory
The eldest living princess of the kingdom Voronia. After a devastating attack on her country from Phenloryn killed her elder brother, Amethyst gave up her peaceful life of studying magic and history to become her country's protector in order to ensure Voronia's stability. She's quiet and has a demeanor, and holds a strong determination to enact justice and take down tyrants. However, underneath her mask of stone cold ferocity is a tired woman seeking to finally know comfort again.
Amethyst is a mighty airborne spellcaster with high offensive power and respectable bulk, who also inflicts heavy penalties on foes both passively and actively. Her main weakness is her low speed, but with her magic and draconic mount, she can keep herself out of danger with ease, and prevent foes from getting the chance to strike her.
💧Wilhelmina, Future's Wings💧
She/They | Ollphiést | Class: Leviathan
Princess of the island kingdom of Scalborn. After years of her people being abused and isolated, Wilhelmina decided to be their voice, and journeyed to the mainland to speak up for her people, and explore the nation. She is often seen as distant or emotionless; it's an intentional image she's constructed for herself to gain respect amongst others. However, she far more susceptible to pressure and fear that she wants to let on.
Wilhelmina is a powerful offensive powerhouse with high magical stats and speed, with her only bane being poor physical defense. With one mighty blast of her magic, she can decimated armies.
Shields of Dawn (SoD) is a story intended for a strategy-roleplaying game, based on titles such as Fire Emblem (Genealogy of the Holy War, Awakening and Three Houses), Berwick Saga, and more. While it is not in active development, if it ever is, it's planned to an emphasis on making strong offensive movements, and unit customization of at least 40 unique characters, each with their own builds and abilities.
It takes place on the continent of Dalgari, a world once saved by legendary warriors blessed by the divine so they would slay the devilish. Those warriors went on to establish nations, with them and their kin leading the common people of the world as divine rulers. This system has led to stability...but there are many injustices that the country has to answer for.
Shields of Dawn’s story touches on themes such as the legacy that our ancestors leave behind impacting our present day, the responsibilities of those who have power, and how compassion and empathy towards others of all walks of life can dispel anxiety and bigotry. It also touches on themes of shaking up power systems for the betterment of society, and all the ways that can be beneficial.
By coming together, many people across borders and communities can fight injustice in their own lives. But it will all be for naught if those with power and influence don't enact those changes, acting in the best interest of the people they serve, and rooting out evil before they can rear it's ugly head.
Shields of Dawn follows Enid, the noble descendant of a legendary hero, and heir to her country.
Her mother, Archduchess Vaela, has seen the chaos that the past years have brought, and decides to combat that by forming a group of heroic protectors and diplomats known as the Shields of Dawn.
When remnants of a mysterious cult become yet another problem that the continent of Dalgari has to deal with–along with the discrimination, desperation, and anxiety that many forces bring–, Enid takes it upon herself to fight for a better tomorrow, alongside the other heirs of divine blood and heritage.
The tag(s) #ShieldsOfDawn, #Dalgari and/or #SoD will be used to share information on the cast of Shields of Dawn, as well as the world and story it follows, and the gameplay ideas I had about it.
as an rpg and tactics developer i find myself working with randomness a lot. i have a complex relationship with randomness these days, which is best articulated through a thought experiment about a guy named barnes.
now barnes (they/he) is a longtime gamer, and a skillful one at that. and they have to be, because they have literally the worst luck possible. they have never rolled more than a nat 1 in tabletop, never gotten the cards they've wanted, and gotten nothing but awful gacha pulls and the worst of whatever pity prize. maybe at some point while gaming you have thought "i just have the worst luck today!" but that was temporary, an anomaly. this is every day for barnes, and he knows it.
now think of a given game you like, any genre. could barnes win that game? what kind of playstyle would they have to adopt in order to play well? what, in this game, is guaranteed? what's the worst-case scenario? it's worth noting that most video games don't do perfect non-deterministic randomness. older games especially tend to have specific seeds, and rng manipulation is a very real skill. do you want that to be how barnes succeeds? or, on the other hand, are you okay with alienating barnes and making a game he literally cannot beat?
now, i know, barnes isn't real, they can't hurt you, this is a thought experiment. but if you're making a game with a lot of randomness, you're going to end up with a lot of people who are way more like barnes than you'd want to admit. how would you want them to feel playing your game?
Teehee.
Gilded Sun is a game in the Tathylia Chronicles series that...is not getting made at the moment. Despite that, not only do I have a cast of characters made in a GBA Portrait maker...but I also made some new characters to round out the cast.
Alright! New version of the final demo is out! It'll probably be the last for a while, so if you wanna play it, now is the time!
Will I get made fun of if I release an update to a demo? ...Ehhh, it'll be fine. SO, I noticed a few issues, changed quite a few things, onc
Also, I made a lot of the cast of Tathylia Chronicles: Argent Moon (players and NPC's included) GBA portraits. These may be edited later, because SRPG Studio is kind of a pain when it comes to using these.
No it's not a romhack. I just like the artstyle and can't draw. Maybe they're new references or smth.
Also they aren't IN the demo. And won't be. Deal with it.
Im trying to write out Ardency, and the main issue I'm having with it is "How am I gonna do a story of this size about a girl with eight friends?"
Like...one I figure out how to properly incorporate them into thr story i am GOLDEN. My main issues are thus.
This is for one of my game ideas, and because of the plot + my own SRPG brain rot+rpg party balance, there are a decent number of characters in the main group. They all fill a specific role, both in gameplay and in the story, but I want to keep the story relatively short.
The main thing that I want to focus on is that all of her friends have flaws and that trying to manage all of them, while maintaining all of these relationships is hard. And while this could be easy to do with side content(social links/optional interactions/etc) doing that in the main story feels a little off to me.
By the time all of the characters join the cast, the game would be entering it'd halfway mark. It's the longest part of the story, with a lot of content to view in it, but there isn't a lot of time. I'm also just not sure what to have them do outside of that. Adding another section wouldn't be an awful idea if I could figure out what the section could have inside it/make it not feel like padding.
A very complicated set of issues I have here~! It sucks because I love this cast and the ideas of this story are close to my heart. But getting it to stick is hard for me.
Im trying to write a character with NPD in a positive light. He starts off as an antagonist, but eventually becomes an ally, like a lot of his other friends. He also isn't an antagonist specifically because of his NPD, just because of like...group alliances or whatever.
I want to avoid the typical mistakes of making him like...a cartoonishly evil and mean abuser, because I've seen so many people assign that label to people with NPD and I hate it.
I have a general idea of how I want his arc/personality to go (He realizes that he doesn't have to try and prove he is special/confident/etc, and his attempts at doing so negatively affect people, including himself+ he deserves love like everyone else.)
My main issue is that ive been having trouble writing his earlier interactions with the MC or the main group, because I want his flaws to still be present. I've always had trouble writing characters who are mean/antagonistic but on thr side of thr main cast who are less mean antagonistic.
Does anyone have any tips to help me out? Especially if you happen to have NPD, that'd be great.
Ok, so honestly, I feel like I've been stalling when it comes to releasing the Tathylia Chronicles:Argent Moon demo.
Like...I know in it's current state, the demo is ready. And I know that it doesn't need to be completely done yet since...it's a demo.
And yet. I haven't released it yet. Hm. Wierd.
Maybe it's because after I release the demo I plan on taking a break from developing it to work on other things for a bit, and I don't want to have to leave it in a state where I have to do a whole lot? Even though...I'll still have to do a lot, since it's not done.
OK SO I HAD AN IDEA FOR A STORY, BUT AM CURRENTLY SWAMPED WITH SCHOOL AND OTHER PROJECTS, SO I CAN'T REALLY WORK ON IT, SO I'LL JUST BLAB ABOUT THE BASIC DETAILS HERE!!
Longinus is a 2D contemporary RPG based on titles such as the Paper Mario RPG games, Earthbound and Deltarune Follow two teens and their angelic(?) friend as they explore fantastical realms, all so they can save a world that everyone else around them accepts will fade away soon. Expect fast, action-based battles, fun dialogue in (almost) every corner, and a story about believing in hope and having faith in yourself.
It's main cast consists of:
Virgo(16|He/Him)
Basically the MC.
An angelic(?) being who has made it his mission to prevent a being known as the Leviathan from returning and destroying to world. He does this by sealing it away over and over.
Hopefully the seal doesn't.... get broken >:)
Has a concerningly low opinion of himself, but is extremely caring and protective of others.
Beau(16|He/Him)
Lives with his little sister, while their parents are away on one of their many business trips. He works hard to protect her and take care of the house while they're away.
Relaxed and quiet on the surface, and not hard to be friends with. But he does have the tendency to be mean or violent if someone's mean/violent first.
Dee(16|She/Her)
Lives with her dad, who decided to move here in order to get away from their pretty bad mother. Wants to make more friends, but often, people find her too annoying. Except Beau ig.
Excitable and friendly to everyone, and maybe a bit of a stick-in-the-mud who likes order and rules.
The story takes place in a small religious town by the coast named Codtail during autumn/hurricane season, which is about to become a lot more chaotic thanks to pieces of a seal being scattered around town. Or is some scattering them? Hmm.
If anyone wants to hear more, I'd love to share. I'll put it under these tags #LonginusRPG and #CodtailRPG for now!
No it is not in active development. At least, not the gameplay stuff. It'd need like...code, and that always makes me confused and a little nauseous(not really but omg you people are fuckin wizards)
any srpg studio game's core audience is inevitably going to be "people who have played f*re *mblem but aren't satisfied with it." if you are making a game in this engine, you have probably played one of these games and have some Thoughts about it. maybe that dissatisfaction is "i miss the old days," which is how you get vestaria saga. maybe it's "i wish this were more openly queer and willing to plunge into the emotional depths," which is where walk from the living comes in.
my frustration is honestly much simpler. i think these games are too big. when you have parties that large, and the ability to let almost any of them die, the game just cannot flesh them out and develop them in the same way as a more focused game could. this is both a narrative complaint, because oh boy do i have thoughts about the fe series' narrative. but it's also a gameplay complaint. a game this large in scope inevitably isn't going to be able to have the kind of focused level design i crave (which is why i tend to prefer dlc stuff like cindered shadows). fortunately this kind of smaller focused experience is something i am very able to make as an indie dev!
Honeslty, as someone who IS designing exactly this kind of game in SRPG Studio(what if FE9 but I did it)
Yes. Exactly this.
Granted, I like FE and all the clones that come with it out of this engine, or the minds of rom-hackers. But it is limiting to constantly have to avoid having characters being relevant to the plot, and it's time consuming to figure out ways to mitigate this issue with base conversations and on-map talks and stuff.
It's why I'm working on something with a smaller cast and scope in my downtime so I won't go insane.
