I saw the finale when it first hit theaters, and I honestly am so happy I did. It was an unforgettable experience.
I do think abstractions can be interpreted as different situations/experiences, this comic reflecting one idea where the abstracted can eventually find their ways back to a tangible, defined body. Not the same one as before, no. They're forever changed after this. It'll be different. Familiar, but different. The interpretation, in the end, is up to the viewer. Whichever one brings them the things they need in the moment.
This comic isn't necessarily what I want to be "canon", but it was something that made me tear up a bit as I gave it some thought.

Imagine that on Yuu's second year, a lot of students get selected to ramshackle, and Ace transfers to become ramshackle's vice housewarden and help Yuu
because Yuu would have no idea about how to deal with ramshackle becoming an actual dorm, populated and all, it's basically like having to let a bunch of strangers live in the only home they have in this new world
also they would only have Grim there to help them defend themselfs and control the students, the possibility that the new students would turn on them would be terrifying
Ace gets worried, and decides to spend some days there, to help Yuu and Grim to feel better and help them while they figure out what to do
Yuu ask every housewarden and vice for some guidance on how to become a proper housewarden and take care of a dorm, and they are able to come up with basic rules for living, it helps a lot that the ramshackle students are much more chill than the average NRC student
Ace just stay there to help and sleeps on the room that was basically his since last year, while also doing his best to fulfill his duties in heartslabyul, but he has limited time and is tired, so the days he sleeps on heartslabyul becomes more and more rare
he keeps postponing the time where he will return "i can't just leave Yuu alone now" "everthing is crazy right now, maybe next week" "i need a few more days to resolve this okay?"
but after some consideration, and Deuce insisting, he has to admit that the way ramshackle works suits him much better than heartslabyul, without the nonsensical rules and all the reprehension, now that he experience a more normal routine, the control on heartslabyul feels sufocating
and also, he and the new students got attached to each other (but he will never admit it), and while he is still that easygoing troublemaker, the responsabilties made him grow a little
it's weird, it might be because he is a younger sibiling but he always prefered to let others take care of him, to have someone else deal with the bothersome problems
but for some reason, he goes to defend and help his dorm mates with no hesitation "protective", is what Yuu called him, teasing him
so after some thought, Ace decides to actually transfer to ramshackle "isn't it funny? i said i would become part of ramshackle on or second day here, but only now i actually do it"
oh, now that he doesn't have to wear the heartslabyul uniform, he would feel a little sad, the heart looked really good on him, he still wears heart themed, red acessories and eyeliner, tho now that he can, he alternates between red and darker makeup, like black or brow (tho it might be just my wishfull thinking since i think those colors look beautifull on him)

Though perhaps not as popular as the "Crowley = Raverne" theory, the connections that people have made between Cater and Cinderella are definitely out there. Unlike the conclusion I drew in my post for the aforementioned Crowley theory (that I refused to say whether or not it was true because there is too much that we currently do not know), I think I can say with more confidence that, even if accidental (which I doubt), there are parallels between Cater and Cinderella that are impossible to ignore. So, let's talk about it.

Home and Family Life
The biggest and most obvious parallel between Cater and Cinderella has to be their home lives.
Though we know nothing about Cater's parents, it is mentioned multiple times that he has two sisters, just like Cinderella (though in her case, they are not biologically related to her).
We learn through some of his dialogue that his sisters often run him ragged when he's home, doing tasks like carrying their shopping bags, styling their hair, cooking, and running to grab them food, such as ice cream. This is eerily similar to the role Cinderella played in her own family - more servant than family member, forced to bend to every whim her family imposed on her. It is for this reason that Cater opts to go to his best friend, Trey's, house over the holidays instead of back home, where his sisters would no doubt be lying in wait.
There also seems to be very little consideration for his wants and needs. The idea of him being "cute" was not a natural aesthetic he gravitated towards; rather, an ideal his sisters imposed upon him. For his birthday, they would often buy him things that they wanted, not things he actually wanted. They would also force him to eat sweets that they baked, to the point that he now despises sweet things, because he was never allowed to say no. Similarly, Cinderella's family did not know her at all, nor made any true attempt to.
The Mask That's Worn
I'm sure you can recall a very important and famous scene from the Cinderella movie. She is dancing with the prince, having the time of her life, when the clock strikes midnight. Terrified, she runs away, and why? She doesn't want anyone seeing her when the magic- the illusion, you might say- fades.
I believe that Cater is in a similar situation.
It is hinted at strongly that, beneath his smiling persona, he may be hiding some deep feelings of depression or burnout. When he made mandrakes that were supposed to represent his personality, the third one was hugging its knees- until it was pointed out that the behavior was this way, and then, soon after, said mandrake was laughing. He's also made off-handed remarks about how exhausting it is to smile all of the time.
One cannot help but wonder if his instinct to smile all the time and constantly be in the know with trendy things is not personality, but survival.
Cinderella's family's main concern was always, always image. It's why they didn't want her to go to the ball, and why they worked her to the bone to make sure they looked as beautiful as possible. He seems to be in a similar situation. Cater made a remark that everything in the Diamond house has to be "cute". There is obviously some sort of pressure to conform.
What if, by staying on top of what's cool and trendy on Magicam, it is his way of making sure he is never taken off guard again by what his sisters are into?
What if his smile is a similar defense mechanism? A way to make sure that he will always meet his family's expectations?
I believe that this is incredibly plausible. And, just like Cinderella, any thought of anyone seeing what lies beneath the sparkly, magical exterior makes him run away. It is a prison- one that his family has forced upon him, much like how Cinderella was locked away in the attic so no one could see her for who she truly was. There is so much to Cater that no one else sees.
All that to say, I'm not quite sure if Cater was intentionally/directly inspired by Cinderella, but the parallels are most certainly there.
-> One final note: It is worth noting that Cater's sisters have seemed to treat him somewhat better as of late, according to Cater, and are putting more of a conscious effort into considering his wants and needs (I forgot to mention this detail, but a commenter kindly reminded me).
