~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your fist tightens around the singed feather in your hand, head bowed as you take a deep breath. Mind racing over the events of the past few days.
You canât recall how long exactly youâd been with the villains, near enough a year, maybe more⊠but in all that time youâd never felt quite as vulnerable as you did now.
Between losing Hawks and Twice⊠youâd never been this torn about anything in your life.
Twice may have been a criminal, a villain, but heâd also been a friend. He was goofy, and loyal, and always put your merry band of misfits before himself.
An invisible force squeezed your heart at the knowledge that he was gone. Youâd seen each villain at their best, and theyâre worst.
You had Giran to thank for that.
He was the reason you ended up with them in the first place, and they were happy to keep you for the resources you had, as well as your abilities.
You were more the behind the scenes sort; you dealt with the technical side of things, and generally looked after the villains, like a glorified keeper than a real player in the game.
You were by no means a hero, youâd been involved with questionable people and dodgey dealings for as long as you could remember. But unlike your companions, you had some semblance of a moral compass.
Keigo- no, Hawks had known that.
You release a humourless laugh at the thought. That questionable hero had thought you were worth something.
Yous had been locked in your own game of cat and mouse, long before the villains ever tore their way into your life.
Yous had spent time with one another when youâd needed some extra support, but never had anything serious to connect yous.
Youâd been on his radar for years, after all, your skill and influence wasnât to be underestimated by the heroâs of this country.
âA national hazardâ, heâd called you⊠and a national hazard youâd become.
He was the last person youâd expected to see strutting about the leagueâs headquarters, like the overgrown peacock he was.
So cocky, so sure of himself.
Just like heâd always been, he was another one whoâd always managed to get under your skin. As charming as he was arrogant.
When youâd confronted him, heâd tried to wave off your intuition and concern⊠birds of a feather, heâd said.
But you knew the truth.
Hawks had been there undercover, youâd known that, but said nothing. Though you didnât doubt Dabi had his suspicions.
Before the villains, Hawkâs unwanted involvement in your life had turned into a welcome distraction, though youâd never admit that to the winged menace.
Youâd been relieved to see him, but at the same time you felt an entirely different kind of fear. Fear for him. Fear that in the end, was warranted.
It was an emotion that stemmed from yet another part of you that you didnât want to acknowledge.
Dabi and Hawks, had become both a blessing, and a curse to you.
You didnât doubt that together theyâde be an unstoppable duo, but ultimately; the dark haired beast, had snuffed out the Phoenix-like spirit that Hawks had embodied.
And the league prevailed.
They all came out victorious in their own way, and the heroâs were left limping away to lick their wounds.
And you were left with a battle of contradicting emotions. You hated them, hated what theyâde done. But at the same time you didnât.
Although you were loath to admit it, you felt something akin to fondness every now and again, both towards them, and from them.
Youâd had no choice but to cooperate all those months ago, but now despite yourself-despite what theyâd done, you were torn with your loyalties.
You knew deep down that the âbondâ, if you could even call it that, was better compared to living with wild animals.
Predators could tolerate their keepers, even show affection, but they also had the potential to turn at any point.
And a predator he was, his gaze certainly held the intensity to match the fiercest of them.
So much so that it instantly draws from your thoughts.
The dark haired man behind you had been a particularly persistent thorn in your side from day one. Snapping back had only further earned you the honour of becoming victim to his attention.
Whenever you showed strength, he challenged it.
Though you suppose saying you were a victim to his attentions wasnât entirely fair, you enjoyed it at times after all.
No matter where you hid, heâd eventually find you. No matter what you said, he had a retort or a rebuff. No matter how much effort you put into trying to ignore him, he singed your efforts.
Although he was the more mysterious and stoic out of your group of misfits, he seemed to be the only one to really get under your skin.
Just like Hawks had. Two sides of the same coin.
The more you pushed the feeling down, the more persistent it arose. It was like trying to hold back the flow of water.
At first, youâd hated him and his persistence, even feared it at times. But now, what truly scared you, was that youâd found yourself waiting for his appearance.
You liked and disliked the way his eyes would seek you out in a room; enjoyed and hated the way heâd tease you.
Over time, youâd grown too used to him being there. Yet you never got used to the reaction he stirred within you.
The goosebumps his gaze awoke, the butterflies his words disturbed, the flush his proximity brought to your cheeksâŠ
You couldnât ignore him, couldnât hide, no matter how hard you tried. He always made himself known one way or another.
You didnât know how you felt. Or rather, you did, but you couldnât afford to allow yourself to embrace it.
Wouldnât.
You were acutely aware of his presence within the threshold of the room, how could you miss him?
Nor do you miss the jump in your pulse at the sound of the door clicking into place.
The light from the hallway outside was quickly cut off, leaving yous both to the moonlit gloom of the room.
You try your best to refrain from showing any signs of apprehension, not wanting to give him anything to work with.
You donât say anything.
If possible, your grip on the now grey feather tightened even more. Your eyes narrowed on the quill visible beyond the confines of your fist, the tiniest flecks of the once vibrant red, winking at you from beneath the dull grey.
Idiot.
âSo this is where youâve been hiding.â The rough tone of his voice sends a shiver down your spine.
It seemed he was done waiting to be acknowledged.
âHardly hiding,â you find yourself mumbling in reply, shoving down the feelings the situation had awoken within you.
âThereâs no leftovers, and Iâm not making anything.â Youâd become a lot braver in your time with them.
Unexpectedly, youâd found that standing up for yourself and setting some boundaries, seemed to have given you a meagre amount of respect from them.
Something evident in the way Dabi allowed your blunt words. Once it wouldâve garnered a reaction from him but now, it merely pulled a snort.
âIâm not here for food.â
âThen what do you want?â Your snappy tone did nothing to deter him, instead, you were answered with the sound of his slowly approaching steps.
You curse yourself, your tone revealed your underlying nerves. So much for no reactionâŠ
The silence of the room only seemed to amplify the usually small noise, past the dining table, round the kitchen island, and before you knew it they stopped just behind you.
He catches your wrist in a firm hold, raising your clenched fist so itâs on full display between yous.
He breathes a laugh, âI didnât take you for the sentimental type, doll.â
He turns your wrist left, then right, then back again; analysing the singed feather in your grasp.
âYou know, you should learn to let things go. Stop holding on.â
The underlying meaning to his words arenât lost on you. You grit your teeth, jaw clenching in an effort to calm yourself.
Donât take the bait.
âIâm not.â
âThat right? Then let me help you make it easier.â
He reaches out his spare hand, index finger stretching out and making contact with the tip of the quill.
You glance at him from your peripheral, but before you can even begin to unravel his motives, thereâs suddenly a shock of blue between yous.
You yelp in surprise at the unexpected heat and action, your hand releasing its grips, and your heart dropping as the feather disintegrates right before your eyes.
âYou-â
The remaining ashes fall into a small pile between yous, and as you watch, Dabi takes another step forward. Stomping on the ashes.
âThere, all better.â
A sudden anger burns through you, and before you can think on your response, you react.
âLeave me alone!â
You yank your arm back, twisting your hand down and beneath his wrist, effectively breaking his hold on you.
With your free hand, you reach out and push against the firm chest, urging yourself to ignore the sculpted muscle of his body beneath his shirt, in an effort to shove back your tormentor.
You needed space.
But you only result in putting a foot or so between yous, though the smirk curling on his face tells you this is nothing but a game to him.
He finds you amusing, to a degree.
âWhatâs the matter? And here I thought we were getting somewhere,â his head tilts sideways as his eyes sweep your form from head to toe and back.
A shiver slithers down your spine, the intensity behind his gaze was enough to match the heat he could conjure, and you werenât about to read into your reaction.
Instead, you drop your gaze, grateful for the space heâs temporarily respecting. If heâs even capable of that.
Yous had been getting somewhere, or as far as yous could given your individual situations.
But since the broadcast, since the fight with the heroâs, since Hawks⊠there had been a shift, in more ways than one.
You couldnât bare to look at him. Partly for whatâs happened, and partly because you were getting too attached.
âAre you pissed about bird-boy?â
You bite your tongue, though neither of yous miss the way your hands clench at your sides, your lips pressing into a thin line.
With your gaze dropped, you miss the way his lip curls. His eyes narrow on your frustration, as his own boils through his veins.
âHe had it coming, he was a traitor, by all means-â heâs cut of at the sound of your humourless bark of laughter.
The sound as unexpected as it was sudden, for the both of yous. Your (E/C) gaze clashes with his own deep blue, not even bothering to hide the tears welling in your eyes.
âAnd youâre any better? At least Hawks was playing a role,â you knew that he wouldnât turn his back on his values.
Not without good reason.
Toya- no Dabi, was a villain.
âYouâre-â bile rose at the back of your throat at the thought. You felt sick with the knowledge that Hawks and Twice were dead. And that Dabi had been the one to kill the former.
You knew heâd killed countless other people, and in a twisted way, you could live with that. But knowing he had been the one to kill Hawks, was eating you up inside.
Youâd grown accustomed to death and murder, it was an every day occurrence nowadays. But this one, this one was personal.
This act has reacquainted you with the term, with its meaning. A murderer, a collector of lives. A theif. Dabi had stolen from you. Is this how all the other victims had felt?
You swallowed thickly.
âWhat?â His lips pressed together, and you hated that you noticed the tick in his jaw; a small sign of the inferno building beneath.
âWhat am I?â
Seeming to lose what was left of his patience, you flinch back at the intensity to his tone.
âWhat am I (Y/N)?!â His eyes glinted with something you couldnât quite place, though the snarl he released with your name had you comparing him to a deranged animal.
Subconcioulsy, you took a step back, your instincts pushing you to put as much distance between yous as possible.
Though part of you took note that this was the first time heâd ever raised his voice at you; in fact this was the first time youâd seen him showing so much⊠emotion.
âHawks-â
âHawks, is gone, I made sure of that. Dead or alive, you were never his priority.â Despite the pitying lilt to his voice, you could sense the underlying excitement.
He was enjoying this.
Youâd never had feelings for Hawk, at least nothing past platonic, he was a good friend. Or at least, thatâs what youâd always told yourself.
Yous had worked together a few times before your coerced-employment, or abduction, or whatever it was⊠not that it mattered now.
In the time he was under-cover yous had spent time together, seeming to read into each otherâs situations without words.
He was charismatic and good-looking sure, but unlike Dabi, Hawks respected your boundaries.
Dabi pushed past them.
One minute he was nice- borderline charming, and the next he was toying with you one way or another. Never violent, not yet at least, but cruel and sadistic in his own way.
Heâd once removed his jacket to keep you sheltered in a downpour, despite his own hatred for water. Yet heâd also left you to Shigarakiâs mercy, during a temper tantrum.
Heâd once bandaged up your wounds after a particularly gruelling run in with some riffraff, yet heâd also made you watch as heâd incinerated them.
The conflict seemed to rage within him, much as it did you within yourself. You understood why now, why he was so⊠contradicting.
Like two sides of a coin, he had two sides; Touya, and Dabi.
You had to process.
âJust stop,â you move to turn away, well and truly done with the conversation, though it would seem Dabi had other ideas.
You catch the movement out the corner of your eye as you try to move around him, and turn back just in time to have him grab your shoulder, spinning you back to face him.
You stumble back, more in an effort to regain your balance, though it quickly turns into a full bodied retreat as he closes in on you.
Every step you give up, he claims.
It was a short lived dance, as you skirt around the island only to find yourself being herded into the corner of the room.
âYou think I didnât notice the way you looked at him? Huh?â Nostrils flaring, he continues herding you back, arms raised at his sides allowing you full view of the blue flames licking at his fingertips.
Your lips part in an effort to take deeper breaths, panicking would only make things worse, showing your fear would only motivate him. It always had.
And it did.
The divide within him; the need to protect, but the want to punish warring within him. He took pleasure from your anxiety. You hid it well, but he could see it.
He relished getting a reaction out of you, after all.
Your shallow breaths, your clenched fists, the way your doe-eyes were fixed so intently on his every movement⊠it was exhilarating.
Especially now he had you cornered.
In your panic, youâd inevitably aided in his objective.
You shoot a desperate glance to the wall behind your back, your mind clawing for an idea- for a way out, as you curse yourself.
His arms drop with a clap back to his side, the flames dying and his head tilts to examine you.
Your lips begin to tremble before you can catch it, nose twitching as you try to fight back your tears of frustration, confusion and grief.
You needed time to process, to think; and Dabi hindered that.
Dabi canât help but compare you to a rabbit, caught between the paws of a wolf. He had you now, you couldnât walk away, and Hawks wouldnât be here to interrupt this time.
He recalled in annoyance, just how coincidental it was that that overgrown pigeon, always seemed to know when you were in his line of sight.
Swooping down like the hawk he was, and taking you with him. You stir him from his thoughts.
âWhy are you doing this now? Why canât you just leave me alone?â Your voice falters near the end, and surprisingly, he doesnât point it out or mock your blatant weakness.
Heâs quiet for what seems like an eternity, eyes ablaze with a whirlwind of emotions, moving too quick for you to pinpoint.
âYou shouldâve looked at him, the way you do me.â
Brows dipping, you begin to shake your head as your mind tries to unravel his words, âI donât-â
âHe was a killer too, you know.â
You felt your face contort at his words, and you knew by the grin stretching his lips, and the spark in his eyes that he was enjoying this.
Not only that, but he being truthful.
Part of you wanted to brush him off and ignore his words, but another part of you knew he was telling the truth.
Deep down, a pressure was building in your chest. The questions you had didnât need to be aired, as Dabi seemed to know just what you wanted.
âDonât tell me, you didnât know heâs the one that killed Twice.â
Your blood runs cold.
Lips parting, you take in a shaky breath as the revelation. He, Hawks⊠he wouldnât.
âHawks-â he cuts you off before you can say anymore.
âHawks killed twice, and I returned the favour. Fairs fair, after all.â He said it so matter-of-fact, so casually that it made you wonder, did he really feel nothing?
âWhy are you telling me this?â Your appeal seemed to fall on deaf ears, as he merely kept his fierce gaze set.
Your mind tried to process the news heâd revealed. Youâd cared for both Hawks and Twice, you didnât want to lose either.
Yet you had, and neither were in the right, nor were they in the wrong. If his truth rang true, then you understood why. Twice should have lived, but he couldnât; Hawks had to be victorious, yet he wouldnât be able to celebrate that.
Dabiâs grin fell into a self-satisfied smirk, though for what reason, you couldnât pinpoint. So much had happened for him to revel in.
Your anger momentarily pushed aside your grief and apprehension, and this time when you asked him, the venom in your voice seemed to reach him.
âTell me why.â
His gaze softened just slightly, if he was even capable of it. Instead taking on a thoughtful air as he continued to observe you. His smirk fell completely, your own anger seeming to soothe his for a time.
His sudden change in demeanour only added to your mangled thoughts. You didnât know what heâd say, but nothing could have prepared you for what he divulged.
As though to prove a point, as he spoke he raised an arm in your direction.
âBecause youâve never looked at me the way you did him. Always keeping me at arms length,â
His fingered kissed your chin, and despite the small fleeting contact, your skin warmed where heâd touched you.
So taken aback by this turn of events, you donât even try to stop him.
You canât hide your surprise, heâd always teased you one way or another⊠youâd always felt like he might be interested, but never took it seriously.
Youâd always brushed off his advances, and heâd retreat before closing in again⊠he treated it all like a game. Like a shark circling its prey, ready to strike when you least expect it.
Yet, he sounded so genuine.
You didnât know what scared you more; his honesty, or the small spark it ignited in your belly.
Perhaps, this was his final attack. Striking where your weak, your emotions had always been your downfall.
âAlways so stubborn, and disapproving, yet⊠good, compared to the rest of us. You can pretend all you want that youâre a villain.â His head tilted back, eyes narrowing slightly as though trying to look at you from a distance.
Allowing his head to loll to the side, his lip quirked at one corner as his gaze flickered with something you couldnât quite place. âGranted your morals can be questionable, but you never really were one of us.â
Despite yourself, his comment stung.
Youâd come to care for them to a degree after all, you might not have been on the same level, but yous had been stuck on the same boat.
âDonât look so sad angel, thereâs nothing wrong with that. Weâre not the same, and it only made me want to get closer.â
Your brows furrowed once again at his revelation, though you quickly stomp it down. His honeyed words were not to be trusted, it was a mind game.
All of it was, this whole interaction had been a series of emotional ups and downs. This was nothing more than a trick.
It had to be.
You watch almost in a trance, as he takes a step forward, and leans into the motion. Before you know it, both hands slam against the wall on either side of you.
You wince slightly at how sudden the noise was, for such a gentle approach.
One hand rested at your head, and the other at your waist. Though what really caught your attention, was his croaky confession as he leaned into you.
âTo have you within my grasp. For you to see me as something more.â
Lips parted, you can only stare up at him as his eyes darken with the last syllable leaving his lips.
âIs that really too much to ask?â
Your lips part to answer, but the words become a tangled mess on your tongue. You donât know what to think, let alone what to say.
Dabi had always treated you differently compared to the others, and an instinctive notion made you suspect he had an interest in you.
Youâd always wrestled with it, and every time youâd gain the upper hand, pin it down and out of the way⊠he would do something that would have you struggling all over again.
âDabi-â
âYouâve still got that look in your eye, Angel⊠You can overlook him killing Twice, but not me for dealing with him?â
You frown at that, nerves momentarily forgotten as he prods at you verbally, though despite that; you decide to offer some honesty on your end.
âI canât forgive him for killing twice. But I donât like the idea that youâŠâ
Your voice wavered, and as your gaze went to dip, he chased it. His own face closing the distance and stopping a mere inch from your own.
âWhy?â
âBecause I donât!â Your frustrations were rising with every second. He made you feel more nervous, more vulnerable, more like a traitor with each moment shared.
âBecause you loved him?â
âNo I, he was⊠he was different, but-â
Itâs the only way you knew how to describe him. You knew it wasnât what Dabi wanted to hear, but to you and the world you grew up in, Keigo was different.
But so was Dabi.
They were both important to you, for different reasons. You didnât like what Dabi had done, yet you wanted to overlook it. You knew you would overlook it; and part of you hated yourself for that.
âSo you loved him because heâs a hero?â
Your eyes narrow. How could someone so twisted be so smart and insightful, yet so utterly thick-headed? Of course he would only hear what he wanted to.
âI donât-â before you could scold yourself for responding, Dabi releases a humourless laugh under his breath.
He attempts to lean closer if at all possible. In response your hands raise to push against his chest, needing some space.
Though Dabi only responded by grabbing your wrists, and pinning them above your head.
His gaze remained fixated on you.
âDabi-â
He leans closer, and you instinctively drop your gaze once again, moving your head to the side as he closed the distance between yous.
âLook at me.â His hoarse tone came out more like a growl, though you could hear the order in his tone.
You grudgingly obliged not wanting to make your situation any more messy than it already was.
âThere we go, now I can see that pretty face.â He punctuated his words by leaning his forehead against your own.
The sudden affection had your hackles raising, and your knees buckling.
The heat from his skin and his proximity, was a dizzying shock, compared to the cold surface of the wall heâd pushed you into.
âThat overgrown parrot, was a fool to think he stood a chance. In the end he got what he deserved. They all did.â
His lazy gaze bored into your own (E/C) orbs, holding you in place with his eyes alone.
âI mean, he overlooked you, didnât he?â
You werenât lost on his insinuation; Dabi hadnât overlooked you.
In the span of a second, heâd skillfully manoeuvred both your wrists, into the firm clutch of his right hand.
Not a second later a shiver slithered down the length of your spine, as his left hand skimmed down the side of your body. The ticklish sensation had you squirming in place.
Testing the strength of his grip, you got all of a few centimetres from the wall, before he leaned his weight into you. Your sharp gaze grudgingly taking note of the toned muscle in his arm.
As your wrists slammed back into the wall above you, you panted as his left hand took a firm hold of your waist.
He squeezed you in as gentle a warning as he was capable of, before dropping his hand to your hip where it settled.
He chuckled at your efforts. Though you suspected as much, within the confines of his mind, Dabi was thoroughly enjoying the sight before him.
You, a squirming nervous wreck, trapped in his grasp. His eyes darkened as wolfish thoughts crept into his mind.
The way your cheeks dusted pink didnât escape his notice, nor did the way you arched your body into him. Whether it was a subconcious effort on your part, either to escape, or get closer he didnât know.
But he most definetely liked the way it accentuated the shape of your body.
âLet me tell you something about heroes, princess.â
Eyes half-lidded, his smoky voice washed over you as he eyed you keenly, âA hero would sacrifice you for the greater goodâŠâ
His eyes narrowed as your lips parted ever so slightly, your shaky breaths came out like pants, and the sudden urge to claim them went through him like a bolt.
He wanted you.
This desire was unlike any other heâd ever felt, the taut connection that bound yous together⊠it was exhilarating.
You felt the same. Though unlike Dabi, you were more hesitant to acknowledge it. Or at least, you had been.
He knew, heâd do anything to keep you. He groaned at the thought. âI have no such compunction.â
The conviction in his tone made you dizzy, bringing you back from your reeling thoughts as the grip on your wrists finally fell, only for his hand to work its way through your hair.
What started of as a light graze against your scalp, eventually had you hissing as he took ahold of the strands at the back of your head.
He pulled your head back slightly, his grip gentle yet unyielding, forcing you to bend further into him.
Your hands drop, one gripping into his shirt, whilst the fingers of your right grip onto his arm, fingers digging into his own skin.
The notion, that he could quite easily end you here and now wasnât lost on you, especially with his next words.
You swallow thickly as he leans down.
âI would burn this world for you.â He vowed, lips scorching your skin as he made contact with the vulnerable hollow of your throat.
You truly believed him.
You gasped, though whether directed at his revelation or the contact, or both you didnât know.
Desire curled in your stomach, yet apprehension held you back from saying anything that would break this moment.
He scattered soft kisses along the expanse of your vulnerable throat; uncharacteristically delicate, despite the roughness of his scars, or his usual brutality.
The only display of his usual intensity, is shown by his grip on your hip tightening, as he pushes his chest into your own.
âAre you scared of me?â He whispers against your jugular, holding off on his lustful attack in order to hear your answer.
You swallow thickly once more, clearing your throat in a bid to put some strength into your reply.
The rumble of it tickles against his lips, and he finds himself momentarily thankful that his upper lip still held some sensitivity.
âPart of me is,â you confess.
âAnd the other?â He pushes you for an answer.
âThe other,â you take in a shuddering breath, mind trying to find the right words.
You gasp as he nips at your skin impatiently.
âNow Angel, donât go holding back on me. Let it go,â he nuzzled the skin where heâd marked you.
Your brows dip at his words, mind not working quick enough to make a connection.
âWhat? I donât- tch,â your cut off, a small strangled noise escaping you as he slowly licks his way over your throat.
Heat prickles your skin where he makes contact, and your grip on him tightens as his lips make their way to your ear.
His voice is tight, and comes out in a low rumble that has you clenching your legs together.
âYour reservations, let them go. Stop holding on so tightly, and live a little.â
The irony isnât lost on you, nor is the connection to his earlier words. Would it really be so bad?
âDo you remember when we first met?â His question rouses you.
âWhoâs the one, holding on now?â You choke out through gritted teeth.
He chuckles darkly, the sound sending another shiver down your spine.
âYou werenât nearly as reserved then as you are now. Over time, youâve become more⊠aware- more conscious, of those around you. I wonder, is that partly, because of me?â
His hoarse voice presses into your neck as he nuzzled impossibly closer into you. He breathed in deeply, seeming to savour the smell of your dulled perfume.
âNot conscious enough, it would seem.â
Not a second later, before you could process his words, he strikes.
His teeth clamp down on the side of your neck, tongue lolling heatedly against your skin, as he sucks insistently in an effort to mark you.
You gasp and squirm in his grasp, crying out as he claims the sensitive area, where your neck meets your shoulder.
Not conscious enough, indeed.
Your knees buckle, and he pushes his own between them in a bid to hold you in place better.
The feeling of his own desire pressing into you had your breath hitching in your throat, fingers practically clawing into him.
You claw at his chest, panic and desire warring within you, mind racing as quickly as your poor heart.
âD-Dabi! Dabi, please.â he groans next to your ear, though it comes out more like a growl with his lips on your skin..
The effect is immediate. He stops his assault on your neck, a wet slap sounding as he removes his teeth and lips from your skin.
You wince at the sensation.
Though just as quickly as the aggression came, so did the affection. He placed gentle kisses where heâd been so rough not seconds before.
Your head spun with his change in demeanour, the feeling on his fingers loosening their grip on your hair, as he sighed against your abused neck.
He leaned back enough to look you in the eye. Relief, and a sense of pride flooded your system, upon seeing that he seemed just as affected by you, as you were by him.
His pupils were dilated, breaths laboured, and lips puffy from his administrations.
âTell me something, does that other part of you like my attention? My touch? My dedication?â His head tilts, eyes gleaming with satisfaction.
âYou already know the answer to that.â
âI want to hear it.â He insisted, his left hand rubbed small circles into your hip, as though urging you to answer.
âYes.â
The self-satisfied grin was instantaneous.
A familiar scent tickles your nose, rousing you from your slumber. Heady and expensive, yet comforting in your muddled mind.
Your eyes blearily blink open, only to be greeted with the colour red. Your brows dip as you realise youâre being held, firmly at that, against a red-button down clad chest.
No, not just held, but carried.
From your peripheral your surroundings pass at a leisurely pace. That combined with pressure beneath the back of your knees, and on your lower back, were a testament to your current suspicions.
You were being carried, but with no strength to lift your head or fight back you didnât immediately know by whom, or what.
Though that seemed to be only one of your concerns.
Pain flooded your system as your self-awareness roused, and the overwhelming sensation had you groaning. You could feel the persuasive beckons of sleep, much like a siren, trying to pull you back under.
You were safe, after all.
Where you should be.
Give in.
You squeeze your eyes shut, urging the voice at the back of your mind to vanish. It wasnât this first time it had intrusively inserted itself into the confines of your mind.
You willed yourself to focus on anything but the voice, and the pain.
Forgetting yourself, you leaned into the firm muscle beside you in an attempt to ground yourself. The silky material of the red shirt, offered a brief reprieve for your clammy forehead.
The voice vanishing the closer you seem to get.
Any sense of self-awareness or insecurity were gone, as you subconsciously snuggle closer to the comforting presence. A different voice deep down whispering that you were safe, soothing your logic and instincts.
Zayne wouldnât be happy. You knew he worried about you, and you hated troubling him. You could already see the concerned look heâd give you as he ultimately checked you over.
Chastising you all the while about taking my better care of yourself.
âWhatâs this? Your awake?â All motion stops, and the sensation has your stomach rolling. You swallow thickly at the familiar, sultry tone.
A sigh escapes you. Trust your luckâŠ
All thoughts of your childhood friend vanish, and just before you close your eyes, just before the darkness pulls you back under.
Briefly, you register the feeling of a light pressure against the top of your head.
âThatâs it kitten,â you groan at the realisation of just who you were with, âjust rest.â
Black hair and green eyes, quickly morph into white and red, you didnât need the strength to look up to know just who had you.
âSylusâŠâ
âShhhhh, weâll be back soon.â
And with those last words, you were gone.
-
He wasnât usually one to fret for other people. In his line of work heâd long since grown accustomed to looking out for himself, and had never thought to change that view point.
Mephisto, Luke and Kieran were the only other souls he would accommodate when it was necessary, connections became⊠tricky.
They complicated things.
You were proof of that.
As his ruby gaze dropped to your limp form in his arms, his heart tightened in his chest. The pained look on your face, before youâd succumbed to your exhaustion and injuries, had stuck with him.
The only comfort he had was that you were now safely tucked into his chest, as the twins drove you both back to his estate.
He considered you, considered what he was going to do. He was usually 10 steps ahead, but with you⊠well, you certainly knew how to keep him on his toes.
From meetings that went from few and far between, to aiding one another in personal assignments, to merely spending time in one another presenceâŠ
You had slowly but surely, worked your way into his life.
Not a day went by he didnât think of you, and he knew you had to feel the same to some degree.
Leaning down, he rested his forehead upon your own, âIâll take care of you.â
His pledge went unheard. Yet, it was one he intended to uphold, regardless of the consequences.
-
With a wince, you grit your teeth at the dull ache pulsating from your legs.
Your eyes flutter open, mind taking note of your physical condition, your lashes weakly fluttering, in an attempt to clear your vision.
The action has your head spinning, and in an attempt to distract yourself from the feeling, you take note of your injuries.
As you flex your fingers, opening and closing them into a fist, you notice the pain in your arms and upper body had vanished. But your legs- no, specifically, your left ankle throbbed with a deep burning pain.
Likely sprained, though it was far preferable in comparison to the flames that had seemed to engulf your body the last time you had awoken.
Your mind goes back to earlier, scrambling to put the pieces together; pain, shadows and crimson red.
Itâs then that your train of thought comes to a screeching halt.
Sylus.
Your eyes widen. His last words echoing within the confines of your mind, now that it had began to clear.
âShhhhh, weâll be back soon.â
Fuck.
You could never think straight when he was around. His playful yet dangerous nature always sent you spiralling, and it didnât help that he seemed to have no concept of personal space.
Your eyes take in the sight of antique looking units, and a desk beneath a large window.
From your perspective, framed artwork decorated the walls; complimenting the ornate sculptures, and expensive looking treasures that tastefully decorated the space.
You briefly take note of the dark sky, beyond the window before you. A whirlwind of greys smudging the black sky like paint on a canvas, effectively hiding away the moons glow.
You frown; how long had you been asleep?
It couldnât have been more than a few hours. From what you recall, it had been night the last time youâd awoken.
âFinally, I was beginning to worry about you.â
The sound of his voice had you lurching upwards, rolling to the side and jumping from the bed youâd previously been sprawled upon.
You were mindful of your foot, at least in your panic, though the movement jostled the injury enough to warn you of your vulnerability.
A small part of you urged you to climb back into the comfort the large ornate bed offered.
You suspected, it was the same part of you that had urged you earlier, when Sylus had you in his arms. Regardless, it was apart of you you had to smother.
Especially with another bolt of pain shooting through your leg, but now that your logic and instinct had returned, you found yourself taking a few steps back.
The idea of having space, and a physical barrier between yous, made you feel somewhat better. Despite the fact you knew that in reality, all it would take was a wave of his hand, for your safety net to be gone.
Your actions though, merely seem to amuse him more than anything, the corner of his lips had pulled up at the sides as he eyes you with a spark of something you couldnât quite name.
He sat in a chair feet away from the opposite side of the bed, though the distance still wasnât enough.
An open newspaper lay draped across his leg, as he sat with one knee propped over the other, the picture of ease.
One hand had hold of the page, as the other was propped up on the arm of the chair, his fingers supporting the side of his tilted head as he observed you.
âJumpy today, arenât you.â
You say nothing, instead focusing on calming your racing heart. This definetly wasnât an ideal situation, for more reasons than one.
âThough, it is good to see you with more energy, you really should rest.â
Not a chance, you snark to yourself. That was far easier for him to say.
Your attention perks at the whispered rustle of the pages delicately folding closed. Your gaze remains fixed as he holds out the paper, before an invisible force places it on a side table near him.
Your eyes narrow at the display of his power. A reminder, of just how easy it would be for him to gain the upper hand.
That same smirk had yet to leave his lips as he adjusts his position, leg dropping and both hands now resting on the respective arm rests.
You couldnât help but compare him to a demon Lord of some sort. His figure, even sitting, emitting a dark and imposing aura.
âWhatâs got you so looking so serious, hm? A lady shouldnât be so stressed.â
âCan you blame me?â
You clear your throat at the sound of your hoarse tone. Not that he seems to notice or care.
âNo, I suppose not. However, you have nothing to fear from me. Not right now, anyway.â
His words had your eyes narrowing in his direction. Your hands instinctively go to your waist, fingers twitching for your weapon, only to come up short.
Your eyes widen as you duck your head, cheeks flushing when you realise you stood only in an oversized black button-down shirt.
Your fingers pull at the long material of the sleeves, falling farther than even your finger-tips could reach. You only now realise upon focusing on the material, that it just tickled the top of your knees.
Your comforted only by the notion you still had your bra and underwear on, but it wasnât enough of a comfort to stop you from lowering him with an expectant glare.
One he matched in intensity.
âI must say you do look ravishing in that.â
You swallow thickly, too embarrassed to offer a rebuke to his flirtations, and if anything this only seemed to amuse him further.
âYou didnât-â you glance back down at your form, breifly noticing the bandage around your left ankle before looking back up at him.
You didnât need to finish your sentence, as he seemed to click onto what you were insinuating.
âYour outer clothing was ruined, one of my maids changed you once we arrived. If it were me, Iâd much rather take my time with you, awake and begging.â
You about choked on your breath not expecting his words, especially in such a casual tone.
âFat chance of that,â you argue, cheeks heating as his words replayed over and over again in your mind.
âWe shall see,â his husky promise sends a shiver down your spine. The intensity of his crimson gaze, had your breath hitching as it scanned you from head to toe, and back again.
âWhat do you want?â The bite to your words stemmed entirely from your nerves, he always managed to get under your skin one way or another.
âI thought that was rather obvious-â the hungry gleam in his eyes wasnât lost on you, and you knew that if you were to remain somewhat composed youâd have to nip it in the bud.
âNo,â you cut him off, needing to change the subject before your heart packed in. âI mean, why did you bring me here?â
He raised a perfectly sculpted brow at your question, âShould I have left you out there alone and vulnerable?â
He said it as though helping you was the most obvious thing in the world, and granted to most, it would be. But, you suspected he had an underlying reason, he was far from an ordinary man after all.
âYou mean to say your intentions were entirely heroic?â You eye him warily, conscious of the fact he may have been trying to lure you into a false sense of security.
âWould that surprise you?â The corner of his mouth quirked up.
âYou donât do anything without reason. Iâm useless to you, you confirmed that yourself, we canât resonate.â
âCanât my actions have more than one purpose? Perhaps I have an underlying reason, and a desire to help you.â
You grudgingly accept that might be the case, but decide to skip over the heroic part.
âFor arguments sake then, whatâs the underlying reason?â
Watching you all the while with an amused gleam in his eye, he drawled, âI was planning on seeking you out, in order to make a deal.â
Your eyes narrow at that.
âA deal?â Your self-consciousness forgotten for the time being, your back straightens, your focus shifting from keeping the shirt in place.
Your head tilts as you raise a hand to push back your loose hair, only to find yourself stopped by the material.
Sighing to yourself you take a moment to roll up the cuffs of each sleeve to your wrist, before fixing your hair. Now that youâd noticed it had escaped- or rather- been released from its confines, it tickled you infuriatingly.
Regardless of that though, as you work to make yourself more comfortable, your mind races as it considers what he was after.
The last time yous had made a deal, heâd helped you in obtaining the other half of the Aether Core.
Yet he hadnât tried to resonate with you again since then. Despite your many run-ins since that time months ago. So why would he be looking to make a new one, when he had still yet to collect?
So lost in thought, you were oblivious to the fact that your actions had the shirt riding up to expose the bottom half of your thigh.
An action that certainly wasnât lost on the white haired man before you.
Unbeknownst to you, his sharp gaze had zeroed in on the exposed skin. His lips parting, as he watched the material teasingly rise and fall with your actions.
In all the times yous had interacted with one another, in your cat and mouse like dynamic, heâd be lying if he said he hadnât imagined this sight.
Alone with you, half naked in his shirt, in his bedroom.
Itâs only as he watches you now that he realises heâd never seen your hair down before either. Your (H/C) locks fell around your face haphazardly, strands usually so neat and held back, now let loose and free.
He wondered what you were like in that state.
His keen gaze greedily takes in everything from your disheveled hair, to the way your fingers manipulate the material of his shirt.
The rise and fall of the shirts hem taunts him still, though he takes this chance to admire the thick, yet toned muscle in your legs.
His mind wandered, led astray by his wolfish thoughts, only to be dragged from the woods of his imagination by the very muse.
âAnd what exactly were you after? To resonate?â You inquired innocently, oblivious to the thoughts that had his knuckles turning white.
He loosened his grip on the arms of the chair, as he once again focused on your face.
So many things, starting with you.
âSylus?â Confused with his lack of response, your gaze rises to look at him, your hand falling back to your side now you were more comfortable.
âI have a solution, that will see to it that our mutual desires are met.â His gaze darkened as he spoke, his hand rubbing at the taut muscle of his jaw. You couldâve sworn his voice was an octave lower, if possible.
You werenât lost to the double meaning in his words, and didnât doubt each word had been intentional.
Swallowing thickly, you decide to ignore it, gathering all the confidence you could, in order to regain your footing in the situation, âand what do you know of my desires?â
You were proud of the strength in your tone, though the ground you thought youâd claimed, tipped when he rose from the plush chair.
He stood slowly, eyes never leaving yours as he straightened himself, and casually sauntered towards you.
Each step he took seemed to echo round the otherwise quiet room.
Each step raising your awareness of not only the situation, but yourself; and the fact you were indeed alone, with an approaching Sylus.
Part of you wanted to retreat, to keep some distance; whilst the other urges you to stand your ground. You knew he was trying to tease you, to test you.
You couldnât deny you were attracted to this man, even despite the fact youâd only known him a few months.
Your interactions, though not a regular occurrence, were always intense, and meaningful in their own way.
You always felt hyper aware of him, whenever yous were in the same room.
You hadnât told anyone about your connection with him. This certainly wasnât the first time yous had interacted with one another, but it was the first time youâd felt so vulnerable with him.
He came closer, and closer, and closer.
Your heart skipped a beat as he manoeuvred round the bed. Finally stoping, when a mere foot remained between yous.
Your head tilted back at his approach, just to keep eye contact, and it wasnât until now that you were reminded of just how tall he was in comparison to your smaller frame.
You instinctively became aware of every inch of him.
Of the way he looked at you with an infuriatingly playful gleam in his eye; something indistinguishable, glinting within the depths of his crimson gaze.
Of the way his spicy cologne and something uniquely him, tickled your nose. The warmth from his body reaching out to your own, and even to the way his hair shifted as he ducked his head to look down at you.
Your hands clenched into fists, as you began to squirm under his intensity. You bite your tongue, not wanting to be the first to break the silence between yous.
As the seconds passed, your mind raced; what did he want exactly? Seeming to pick up on your confusion, he chuckled under his breath.
âWill you stop that,â you scolded.
âStop what?â
âDonât play games, you know what I mean.â He most definitely had to.
âTell me darling,â he smirks, âdoes it make you nervous when I stare?â
âNo.â You kick yourself, youâd replied too quick. You both thought so.
âOh?â He arched a brow as his lip curled at the corner, âI suspect your fibbing. I think, despite what you say, that you desire my attention.â
You could feel your cheeks flush at his intensity and proximity. âCan- will you just, cut to the chase.â
You limply take a step back, desperate for some space to clear your mind, only to be met with sudden resistance that has your back arching into the contact.
You gasp at the feeling of something curling up the length of your back. A firm, teasing warmth carasses your spine, before ghosting over your shoulders, and stopping your retreat in an instant.
A shiver wracked your form at the intimate action, and as the pressure lightens, your mind clears. He was using his evol, and the fact that it was an extension of himself, wasnât lost on you.
âTell me, do you also desire my touch?â At this he leaned down into your bubble, his face stopping inches from your own. Your gaze searches his own, for even a sliver of a clue as to what he was thinking.
Was this all a trick?
âSylus, what are you trying to,â
âIsnât it obvious? You say Iâm the one playing games, yet you play with my heart constantly. Iâve made my intentions- my desires quite clear. I now what your body wants, I know what your emotions need, yet I want to hear you voice it.â
I want to take care of you. The words sit upon the tip of his tongue, too slow to escape with the rest of his confession.
Your mind comes to a halt at his words, unable to form a reply as his voice replays within the confines of your mind.
He looked at you imploringly.
âIs it that youâre ignorant to my plight? Something, I truly doubt is the case. Or, that you donât wish to acknowledge it?â
âI-â your words die on your tongue. How do you respond to that exactly? You felt way out of your depth; so weak and vulnerable beneath his penetrating gaze.
The phantom presence at your back, soothed down and then back up your spine, as though urging you to respond before vanishing once more.
But for once, you were truly speechless. You could see the genuine emotion within his eyes, no matter how hard you wanted to deny it, you couldnât.
And the thought terrified you.
You were grateful for the momentary pause he granted. Though you could tell his mind was ticking along, just as quick as your own.
Of course you werenât ignorant of his intentions, you knew he was attracted to you. Knew he had a deeper interest in you, of course you did.
You might not have always allowed yourself to believe it, but he certainly didnât make any effort to hide it. It was more soâŠ
You didnât know if you should. You shifted your weight, a small effort to alleviate some of the pressure in your foot.
Something he picked up on.
âI donât understand, how a deal comes into this?â You lick your lips, your tongue suddenly feeling like sand paper in your mouth.
You watch nervously as his eyes flick down to follow the small movement, before narrowing as he releases a slow breath through his nose.
âAllow me to make it clearer for you;â you let out a startled gasp at the feeling of something cold and solid bumping into your backside.
You glance behind you to find that, without a sound, the desk that had previously been pushed up against the wall behind you, was now effectively caging you into the man before you.
An offer for support, as well as a way to keep you in place.
âI want you, to stay here with me.â
Your head whips back round to face him wide-eyed, you can only blink at him. His words had made the situation anything but clearer. âWhat? Why?â
You lean into the solid structure behind you, allowing your weight to rest against the wood, and taking some of it off your injured ankle.
You were grateful for this aspect at least.
âYou still owe me my half of our deal, sweetie⊠and besides; Phillip seemed to be under the impression that the more time we spend together, the more compatable weâll become.â
Again with the double meanings.
He accentuated his words with a wave of his right hand.
He had a point though. You often thought on the fact heâd yet to collect, and it would seem heâd picked his moment wisely.
âAs in, move in?â
âWell why not? I wonât interfere with your hunter business, and it will give us plenty of time to get to know each other, most intimately.â
Another shiver slithered down your spine.
âI donât expect you to give up your independence, kitten. I know how much you thrive with it, you can leave anytime.â
You werenât used to such a forward approach from men. Youâd be lying if you said you werenât tempted.
Your mind briefly worried about the costs of your apartment. It would take you longer to get to work, and it was closer to Tara and Zayne-
Zayne.
As though rising from the fog, you suddenly feel guilty for not thinking of your childhood friend sooner. Despite knowing you shouldnât, part of you suddenly felt guilty for being here and allowing this behaviour.
Youâd had feelings for Zayne that went past platonic, but youâd began to give up hope for anything more, as heâd never seemed to reciprocate such emotions.
At least, not until recently.
As of late, heâd taken to stopping by fairly often to eat or check up on you after your missions. Heâd seemed to open up more aswellâŠ
Of all the reasons not to stay, Zayne was part of it, but then; you couldnât keep holding on, especially to something youâd started to to let go off. Youâd began to move on from your childhood crush.
âI canât⊠just move in, Iâve got financial responsibilities, plus commuting to the association, and Tara and Zayne will be-â
His eyes darken at the sound of his name, âdonât you think itâs rude to fret over another man in my presence.â
Your gaze sharpens at his tone, not missing the fact heâd overlooked Tara in your words.
âHeâs my friend-â
âIs that all? If so, I can live with that, otherwise,â
You jump as he suddenly jolts forwards, hands coming to rest on either side of your waist, upon the desk. The sharp clap of his flesh making contact with the wood has you jumping, âYou might give me a complex.â
You were so tempted to reach out, you wanted to touch him; to push him away or drag him closer, you didnât know. And that was the problem.
âI-I somehow doubt that,â you stammered.
He leans back a little, back bending and head lowering so he comes face to face with you.
âTell me, do you fidget so sweetly when heâs near? Do your cheeks flush when he so much as looks at you? Hm? I donât even have to physically touch you to have you bending to my will,â
âWhat-What has any of that got to do with making a deal? You speak as though I have something to gain, aswellâŠâ
Proud you were able to keep your voice steady and your gaze locked, you try to calm your racing heart by taking deep, steady breaths through your parted lips.
Your mind was quick to remind you, that in all his seductive ramblings, he had yet to make that aspect of his deal clear.
Why would he want to make another, when he already has something over you.
âYou, my sweet, can have anything. Itâs the least I could do, for such a weighty request. Stay here, and work on building a connection so we can resonate.â
His head tilts, eyes softening somewhat as your worries echoed in his mind, âLet me worry about the finer details, itâs only fair I help you keep your independence after all. Consider Luke and Kieran at your disposal for your commute.â
âIn return, youâre implying youâll support me?â
He could tell you were unsure- so hesitant even, to accept any help, especially of the financial sort. You were so unlike the other women whoâd threw themselves in is path in the past.
Yet hearing those words, âyouâll support me?â.
It awoke a possessive spark in his heart. A protective need to ensure his words were met, it was yet another thing any other woman had failed to awaken in him.
âNaturally⊠and in return, you can have anything you wish.â
âAnything?â You ask breathlessly.
You saw his logic, now it was a matter of the small print.
His nostrils flare at your inquiry. Heâd be lying if he said he wasnât affected by you, only a fool would deny that.
Unbeknownst to you, it was becoming more and more difficult by the minute, to keep his hands to himself.
The fact you had yet to push him away wasnât lost on him- then, neither was the fact you had yet to reciprocate.
He knew you were fighting your own internal battle.
âAnything,â his husky voice sounded strained to you, and the insinuation had you clenching your things.
Your gaze drops, head tilting to the right as you once again felt yourself losing control.
However, before you could even register his movements, his right hand had raised to take ahold of your chin.
His grip was firm, yet gentle, as he moved your head and subsequently your gaze, to meet his own once more.
âKeep your eyes on me, and tell me what it is you truly desire.â His eyes gleamed with intent, as his thumb moved to press against the plumpness of your bottom lip.
The one he torturously watched you lick not too long ago.
âIâll personally see to it that youâre satisfied with your end of the deal, darling.â
He leans in closer, both of you dizzy from each over and the building tension between yous. He keeps going, until his nose presses against the shell of your ear.
His tepid exhale sends another shiver down your spine, as he releases a shaky breath against your neck.
Goosebumps rise beneath the confines of the long sleeved shirt you adorned. Your hands raise as your focus shifts, fingers gripping the front of his own shirt.
You briefly feel guilty for crumpling such expensive material, though it seemed of little consequence to the man before you as he pushed into you.
You felt so overwhelmed.
His intensity, matched with his proximity, his heat, his voice, his smell⊠everything seemed like too much, yet not enough at the same time.
âWell? What do you say?â
â(Y/N)!â You knew he was mere feet behind you at this point, but you didnât care. You were past it in fact.
â(Y/N), I didnât realise you were there-â he reaches out and takes hold of your arm in a bid to get you to face him, though just as he does so, you break free from his grasp and round on him of your own accord.
He stops suddenly in response to your own unexpected action, before taking a step back, his eyes sparking with something you canât quite read. He opens his mouth, but before he can utter a syllable you beat him to it.
âIs that your way of apologising?â You scoffed, brows rising at his audacity.
You knew that elves were complicated beings, but the constant unpredictability in your interactions was really beginning to infuriate you.
This man had been on his high stag for far too long, you remember imagining all the ways you could rip him off it the first time youâd met. The thoughts had simmered down over time, only rising on occasion; but all at once they appeared to come back in full force.
All the ways you could but couldnât.
Youâd thought after nearly three years of bicker and banter, of getting to know each other little by little after each prickly interaction that heâd come to see you with at least a shred of respect.
You werenât expecting your relationship to bloom into a bed of roses, though you thought not for the first time, that it was a rather fitting comparison for the eleven king before you.
Pretty to admire, but still sharp enough to draw blood if not careful. And youâd clearly gotten too comfortable.
âI thought weâd come see past something as trivial as our species.â
His own brow dips at your words, âwe have -â
âDo, not, insult, me, Thranduil.â You donât doubt he expected a more explosive reaction, though you werenât in the mood to give him the satisfaction.
You knew your cold venomous tone would hit him harder than any show of anger. His words had pushed you past that.
You knew they only hurt so much because youâd allowed yourself to open up enough with him to let it affect you so. But the feeling was mutual, or so youâd thought.
He wasnât as defensive or confrontational as he used to be, his gaze towards you had softened significantly, heâd taken to seeking out your company more often than not⊠heâd even shown you his scars after a drunken rage one night.
Youâd found him drunk in the courtyard and heâd opened up to you about his past despite your efforts to stop him, and youâd hesitantly matched that display of trust by telling him about your own life.
Yous had forged a bond, despite your differences, and found many unexpected similarities in the process.
âI thought⊠I thought we were past the point of you looking down on me.â Even the beginning of something more, despite you being human, heâd come to see past that. Hadnât he?
âI⊠I didnât think,â you cut him off once more.
âNo, you didnât.â
His words circle your mind once more; shes just a human.
The cold detatched tone heâd so eloquently wielded had pierced you deep. You werenât just a human. You were a warrior, a woman capable of more than he could even begin to imagine.
Youâd studied with wizards, crafted with dwarves, fought with elves, conquered trolls and goblins alike.
Many a man had tried to tame you, many a beast sought your throat; but none had succeeded.
Youâd single-handedly built alliances and destroyed the ego of many tyrannical men from all walks of life.
Your value and accomplishments had not only brought you to Mirkwood, but had in fact also been the foundation from where your interactions had stemmed. Where respect had grown.
You had come on a political mission with Elrond, and had stayed to aid in the cleansing of Mirkwood; a proposition that Thranduil had personally put forward.
It would seem youâd become too comfortable.
Too tame.
âI did not mean for it to come across how it did, it was not my intention to insult you. Please believe that.â His tone held a softness, one he often used away from prying eyes and ears.
Though you knew that many suspected that there was something between the pair of you, he wasnât as subtle as he liked to think he was. Youâd often heard the elves within his court mumbling about you; Thranduilâs human.
âOld habits die hard, I assume?â You offered, your lips quirking at one corner in a bid to lay a false sense of security.
He seemed to measure your words, before bowing his head slightly in acceptance. His hands rose up to settle on your biceps, giving them a gentle squeeze.
âIf you will allow it, I would make it up to you, show you my regret.â You could see a glimmer of relief in his eyes, and the observation only added fuel to the fire burning in your veins.
âAnd how would you do that?â It wasnât often the eleven king apologised for anything, rarer still that he would admit his wrong and offer something in turn.
âName it, name it and it shall be yours.â One of his hands dropped back to his side, whilst the other, glided down the length of your arm to curl around your own limp hand.
âAnything.â Oh the possibilities he offered with one word.
You squeezed his digits with a smile, knowing exactly what you wanted.
âI want you to show me.â
âShow you what?â His eyes glimmered with curiosity, his head tilts ever so slightly to the side as you tilt your own head back to look him in the eye.
âYou respect me?â His eyes widen ever so slightly at your question.
âOf course.â His reply was quick, his tone steadfast in its delivery.
âYou would have me stay by your side?â You knew your questions were more than a little self serving, but you knew what you wanted, and once you had your mind set on somethingâŠ
Well, your stubbornness wouldnât let it go so easily.
âI doubt thereâs much I wouldnât do for the honour,â his eyes narrowed at his admission, seeming to take yous both aback by his honesty, âI know I donât often say it. But I speak the truth.
You were quiet for a moment.
A part of you felt bad for where you were taking this, but the other part, the part that had gotten you to where you are in life urged you forward.
âIf you truly want my forgiveness, then show me how far youâre willing to go to obtain it.â
âWhat would you have me do?â The hopeful glimmer in his eye almost stopped you. Almost.
âKneel.â
You heard him exhale, a small sharp sound that told you he most certainly did not expect those words.
His brows furrow as he searches your face for something, humour perhaps, though you were far from joking. His body language, and his hesitation spoke volumes.
âIf you arenât willing, then you have my word, that this is where I draw the line.â
His gaze flicks down the embankment were a platoon of his men await his commands. He knew as well as you did that the pair of you were in plain sight should anyone look up.
You both knew what it would mean for him to follow through with your ultimatum. What it would mean for him, and for you.
For once, the mighty Thranduil seemed speechless, and you took great pride in that.
âI wonât repeat myself Thranduil, if you want my forgiveness, if you want to earn back my respect, if you truly want me by your side then you will do as I ask.â
He had belittled you in front of your allies, and whatâs worse behind your back. Or so he had thought.
He seemed to be weighing out the pros and cons, and quite frankly, that notion only infuriated you more.
You allowed a humourless breath to escape you, before pulling your hand from his and turning your back on him. You hadnât even taken a step before he finally reacted.
âWait.â
You glance over your shoulder, brow quirked at his tone, something he seems to pick up on.
He raises a hand in a placating motion, no doubt battling his pride.
Your body turns, eager to see what he would do. You could hear the resignation in his tone and was curious to see where heâd go with this.
His eyes fluttered closed as he released a breath, just as your own caught in your throat at the sight of him lowering his impressive height.
Inch by inch he dropped until he rested on his knees before you.
Satisfaction warmed your belly at the sight of him, you squashed the guilty part of you, silenced the voice urging you to take back your words.
Before you was none other than the eleven king, kneeling before a mere human, like a man at prayer.
âLook at me.â He obeys, his captivating silver gaze catching your own (E/C) orbs, each burning with something the other canât quite read.
âWhat do you want?â A look of confusion briefly crossed his face, before his head falls back to better look at you.
âWhat do you want from me, Thranduil?â
Were you taking this too far? Perhaps, but you werenât going to stop, not now.
He swallowed thickly, eyes never leaving your own. His arms lay by his side as you took a step towards him, wanting a closer look at his submission.
âWhat could you want from a mere human?â Cruel and cunning, werenât words often used to describe you. You didnât enjoy acting as such, not normally, but you wanted to remind him that you had thorns too.
âEverything.â His dazed response gave you pause for a moment.
You hummed at his words, hand reaching out to tilt his chin back further. You kept your eyes locked with him as you done so.
Your gaze keen and sharp as you observed his reaction; your confidence grew by the second.
Your fingers graze the length down his neck before stopping to linger over his jugular, lightly tracing your fingertips over his pale skin.
A shuddered breath escaped him as he watched you.
His eyes glinted with something, something you couldnât read but instinctively knew. It had anticipation building in your belly, and you suspected he felt similarly.
âYouâll need to earn that, in time, perhaps.â
He swallowed thickly, you could feel the usually steady pulse quicken beneath your fingers, and the fact he held the position was not lost on you.
You leaned down towards him, your (H/C) locks falling round the pair of you like a curtain as you slowly closed the distance between your faces.
His eyes widened a fraction, his lips parting in anticipation for your close proximity. You craved it also, but this moment, it went deeper than physical bonds of any sort.
So you stopped, with just a whisper of space between your lips, âwould you like that, Thranduil?â
You lips barely brushed against his own, though the motion of him dazedly nodding in response had his upper lip brushing against yours.
You suppressed your own shiver at the contact, but he wasnât so quick to hide his own reaction. He arched towards you, pupils blown and breath caught.
âYour words, my king.â
âYes.â His breathless tone was like music to your ears, and you smiled at him in response.
âGood.â
And with that single syllable, you rose back to your full height, watching eagerly as he made as though to follow after you, but remembered his position.
His eyes flickered with a mix of anticipation and confusion, his brow knitting together as realisation dawned on him.
And with that, you turned your back once more.
In doing so, with your presence and gaze elsewhere, Thranduil was able to think clearly.
His eyes trailed after you as you made your way back down the embankment, not once turning back to look his way, as though he wasnât worth the effort.
But you were.
As he took in his position. As his mind replayed the last few minutes over and over again, he realised that he was indeed wrong. You were unlike anyone he had ever met, no one had ever gotten to him quite like you did.
He chuckled, humourlessly at the thought.
You were indeed, no mere human.
-You discover Sanji in the Going merry kitchen after a nap, unaware that he had joined the crew.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your brow furrowed as you stood in the back doorway to the kitchen, eyes narrowed and focused on the blonde man before you.
He looked the picture of ease with his sleeves rolled up, as he effortlessly prepped a variety of vegetables for an unknown dish.
So he was a decent chef as well as a waiter. You could tell in the way he quickly, and efficiently went through the veg with what had to be practised ease.
Skilled with a knife then, you noted.
Heâd yet to acknowledge you, whether due to the fact he had yet to notice you, or he was just that way inclined you didnât know. You suspected the former, despite the fact he hadnât been particularly welcoming last you met.
You recognised him from the other night when you ate in the restaurant with the others, heâd served your table and made quite an impression.
Heâd been less than hospitable for a waiter, though it had admittedly amused you somewhat at the time.
You recalled his attitude had done a complete one-eighty with Nami, though heâd barely acknowledged the rest of yous; completely ignoring you in fact, though the others were convinced thatâs because youâd had your hood up.
Zoro had ordered your drink for you and you hadnât made an effort to humour the blonde man; so he wouldnât have been made aware of your presence then, or seemingly now.
You took a minute to take him in, he had a slim yet muscular frame, and you had to shake your head when you found yourself focusing a little too long on the muscles in his forearm, flexing and relaxing with his movements.
He was handsome, youâd give him that, but he struck you as someone who knew it and took pride in his physical appearance. That, you didnât like so much. Whatâs more, he was ballsy, for an intruder.
âWhat the fuck do you think youâre doing here pretty boy?â
Your brow ticked at the last three syllables to leave your mouth, but it was done now. You were known for speaking without thinking.
The rhythmic snip of the root vegetables he was making his way through came to a sudden halt, before he bodily turned to look at you in a rather elegant manner.
He seems to be frozen to the spot momentarily, and that paired with his wide-eyed expression, had you thinking that heâd merely failed to notice your presence after all, as opposed to ignoring you.
Though just as quickly as it appeared, his taken-aback expression was gone and instead replaced with a charming smirk. His eyes sparked with intrigue as his facial features relaxed, and you caught the way his eyes took you in.
He flicked his hair out of his face in a manner you knew to be habit for him, just by how naturally the move came.
âYou think Iâm pretty?â He replied in a low smoky voice, and his observation of your slip up had you narrowing your eyes.
âI think you missed the main point, answer the question.â You sauntered further into the kitchen, coming to stand before him on the other side of the counter, still maintaining a few feet between yous.
You didnât know the full extend of his combat abilities, but youâd seen that he was able to hold his own against numerous opponents the other night. He seemed to favour savate fighting techniques over weapons.
That together with taking into consideration his place of work, and what you presumed to be residence, you didnât doubt he knew how to defend himself.
Additionally, Chefs were known for their knife work, though you werenât put off in the slightest by the sharpened blade currently held in his grasp.
You were quite confident, that even without your own blades, you could hold your own against him.
âIâm cooking,â he offered innocently, before picking up the chopping board and using the back of the knife to scrape the freshly chopped veg into a pot of boiling water beside him.
âClearly, though if memory serves right youâve got a perfectly good kitchen out there,â you nod your head in the direction you knew the Baratie to be beyond the ship walls.
Sanji, if you recalled correctly, wasnât in the least bit put of by your hostility, nor did he seem fazed at being caught. In fact, he seemed pretty damn comfortable to you.
The man before you placed the knife and chopping board to the side, before picking up a towel heâd tucked into his belt. He proceeded to wipe his hands before chucking it over his shoulder and placing his hands flat on the surface of the counter.
He leaned forward somewhat, head tilting to the side as he looked at you through his lashes, his stormy gaze a whirlwind of blue and grey.
âCan I get you anything? Perhaps an-â
âExplanation would be lovely, considering youâre trespassing.â
You felt somewhat guilty for interrupting him, but this was your home. Your curiosity was warring with your frustration; and him stalling and beating round the bush, wasnât helping your already grumpy mood.
Napping always had that effect on you, you either woke reenergised enough to conquer the world, or you woke up a bewilder-grouch, as Zoro so eloquently put it.
A bewildered-grouch certainly seemed more fitting for your current mood. For such a stoic guy your green haired companion could certainly come out with some random things.
âTrespassing?â His smile seemed to grow at your choice of word.
âHmm,â you hum in response, and from your point of view that certainly seemed to be the case, âfrom my understanding, yeah.â
âLuffy asked me to make a meal fit for a king.â
âOf course he didâŠâ well that did certainly sound like something Luffy would say and request. You were also a lover of good food, but you were still fighting down your meal from the other night, you honestly didnât know where Luffy put it all.
You were starting to reevaluate the situation, the blonde man before you certainly had a believable excuse, though whether it was entirely credible remained to be seen.
âI didnât realise you cater for private functions.â It wasnât a question, and he seemed to recognise that, something gleamed in his eye and you narrowed your own in anticipation for his next response.
âYouâd be surprised what I can cater for, privately or otherwise.â He leaned his head back somewhat, the picture of ease, as he once again looked you up and down with a confident smirk in place.
You huff an unamused snort at his comment, though internally you felt a buzz go through your system at his confidence, you were proud of yourself for keeping your voice strong.
âCute.â
âNot nearly as much as you,â his wink has you barking a laugh, and his lashes fluttered momentarily as though he hadnât expected your sudden response. Though he seemed happy with the reaction regardless.
âHave you hit your head?â You allowed your lip to curl into a smile, one that grew a tad at his reply.
âIâm merely blown away by your beauty,â his honeyed voice oozed with a coat of charm that you suspected was supposed to draw you in. Though you refused to give him the satisfaction.
He adjusts his form, pushing of the counter and rising to his full height, where he tucks his hands into the side pockets of his trousers, leaving his toned arms to hang loosely by his side as he seems to puff out his chest slightly.
The action has you cocking a brow as you teasingly mused, âNot far enough it would seem.â
He chuckles at that, and you were loath to admit that the sound was like music to your ears. You instantly perked at the genuine sound, and it gave you pause for a minute.
âCan I have your name?â His head once again tilted sideways as he gazed at you, his eyes softer this time though you push that observation aside.
Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp and the Going Merry were the extent of your world. Or at least, they had been until Nami walked out. Though like Luffy, you believe there was more to it than met the eye.
Introductions sometimes lead to something more in terms of building bonds.
You were well aware of your tendency to get attached to people. Though given that nine times out of ten it never ended well, you were more inclined to go with your gut, and try to keep distance with others.
âHavenât you already got your own?â The words were once again out of your mouth before you could really think on them, though he once again seemed to take it in stride.
In fact, he seemed more than happy to humour you, taking your snarky reply as a genuine question.
âI do, itâs Sanji.â
Ah, so it was Sanji.
âIâm aware, you said as much at the table the other night,â his introduction had certainly stuck, that was for sure.
His brows furrowed in thought at your words, seeming to be lost in thought though not a second later his eyes spark in realisation.
âYou were the one in the hood,â his smile takes on a sheepish note as he raises his right hand to rub at the back of his neck, âI apologise for my rudeness, I⊠wasnât having the best of nights.â
You remain silent at his admittance, not understanding why he felt the need to apologise; it had been clear he was in a bad mood, but it hadnât been directed at you. Whatâs more yous werenât exactly paying customersâŠ
You shrug in response, deciding it would be quicker to refrain from asking any follow up questions. Youâd been trying to get answers, not connections, though despite this you find yourself replying.
âThereâs no need to apologise,â you find yourself murmuring in response.
Sanji smiles at you, his eyes crinkling in the corners, and for a second the blue in his gaze seems to shine a little brighter than the grey.
You take a step forward, clearing your throat in a bid to clear the too-comfortable silence that had enveloped you.
âThough that being said, if youâre feeling guilty, you can repay me with an answer to my first question.â He blinks at you, his hand lowering back to the counter.
âAh, I suppose thats fair,â just when you think heâs finally going to answer you, heâs suddenly cut of. Yous both look to the main entrance of the kitchen as the sound of thundering footsteps quickly approaches.
You glance at Sanji from the corner of your eye to see he seems somewhat concerned, and the moment amuses you somewhat; youâd long since gotten used to the sound to know what- or rather who, it was.
âHey Sanji! Can you make something-â Luffy comes to an abrupt stop at the door, hands grasping the frame as he steadies himself from the momentum of his action.
When he spots you before him, his face instantly lights up with a warm smile, â(Y/n)! Long time no see. I was going to wake you to tell you the good news, but Usopp told me not to wake you from your nap.â
You made a mental note to thank Usopp later for protecting your nap time. Luffy wasnât the subtlest of wake-up calls, plus it was good to know that Usopp was capable of learning from his past mistakes.
As Luffy enters into the room with his hands on his hips, nodding to himself as he comes to stand next to you.
âWhat news?â Despite voicing the question, you had a feeling you knew where this was going. Between Sanjiâs comfortability and Luffyâs excitement, you could put two and two together.
His gaze flicks between you and Sanji, smile growing with his anticipation.
âThis is Sanji, our new chef!â He looks between the two of you, pride beaming in his face as he exuberantly exclaims âhe joined our crew!â
âOur newest member to the straw hats!â He pats you on the shoulder, giving you a gentle squeeze before looking back to Sanji.
âSanji, this is (Y/N). Sheâs our (crew position), sheâs very good! Likes to nap, though I see yous two have already met. I hope sheâs been welcoming?â
Luffyâs expectant gaze remained of Sanji, and your own (E/C) orbs flicked to Sanji to find him smiling at you in a way you couldnât quite place.
You felt somewhat bad for giving him a hard time now, though in your defence you hadnât been informedâŠ
It was clear however that Luffy was overjoyed, and that was enough to change your mind.
You donât know what you were expecting, though it certainly wasnât the boyish grin that formed dimples in the blonde manâs cheeks. You were taken aback for a second at the sight, your heart skipped a beat and you mentally cursed yourself for the reaction.
âSheâs been more than welcoming, in fact, I think weâll get along nicely. Or at least, I hope.â
You recognised the question in his statement despite his confident tone. Luffy once again turns to look at you, eyes sparking with excitement and you find yourself smiling in reply, allowing your hostile and blunt facade to slip.
Youâd be lying to yourself if you said you werenât the slightest bit interested in him, in a platonic sense of course. You donât think it would be all bad to let one more person in.
âYeah I think weâll be alright, after all, the more the merrier. Right?â
âYeah! Yes (Y/N), thatâs the spirit! That can be our new motto! We should have some food to celebrate!â His hand slips from your shoulder as he claps his hands together, rubbing them in anticipation as he approaches Sanji.
âWhat do you think we should have (Y/N)?â
You take this as your chance to leave, youâd showed yourself up enough for one day, that and you were curious to find the others and see what they thought on the matter.
You knew Usopp would go along with it, Zoro would no doubt have something to say when he woke up, and Nami⊠well, her opinion would remain to be seen.
Zoro would be your first visit, he may not reply in his current state, but you liked talking to him just in case. Who knows, maybe the shock will wake him.
You wave your hand in dismissal as you walk towards the door Luffy had just entered, âIâm fine with whatever you choose!â
âHuh? Are you sure?â
âIâll trust in your decision, Luffy.â You knew the double meaning of your words may well go over your captains head, and for the most part it seemed to as he called back absentmindedly.
âWell alright then!â His focus remained on what Sanji was doing with the pot and the food upon the counter.
The chef on the other hand, well you could tell heâd caught onto the meaning of your words. His gaze remained fixed on your own with a contented smile as you rounded the corner.
You stood for a minute on the other side, mind going over the past few minutes, or however long it had been. Perhaps, this wouldnât be such a bad thing. After all, Sanji and the head chef had helped Zoro.
Luffy had said he was a good person after dinner the other night, and you could see the potential. After all, you had felt the same with the others at first and nowâŠ
Now you wouldnât be without them. Perhaps, there was a place for Sanji yet.
-When Aizawa acts in a sleepy whim, yous both get more than you bargained for.
You raise a hand to stifle the yawn escaping you as you make your way down one of the many hallways of UA.
Youâd just released your students was determined to get back to your own dorm and get some paperwork out of the way so you could relax for the rest of the night before your kids assessment tomorrow.
You were proud of your students, and you knew that they would do you and the Support & Business department proud, so youâd let them away an hour earlier for the day in order to better prepare themselves for tomorrow.
With the practical side of things caught up with today, it would give them longer to focus on their theory and coursework.
An unexpected buzz from you back pocket has you stopping in your tracks as you reach back and pull out your phone. Youâd placed it on do silent for your class earlier, and werenât surprised to see a few notifications waiting.
They were from a shared chat group with your two childhood friends, you notice all the messages are from the same person, and your finger moves to click into it.
Though just as you go to do so, your attention is pulled elsewhere.
The sound of your name being called from somewhere down the corridor had your head turning, the very familiar booming voice of your childhood friend Hizashi Yamada echoing through the corridors in his search for you.
â(Y/n)!â
You wince at the volume, long since used to his presence and antics, you briefly wondered what it was he could be after. Knowing Hizashi it could be anything from lunch plans to the vast unknown.
You place your phone on do not disturb and turn it off, before placing it back into your pocket knowing youâd be face to face with the sender in no time.
Just as you open your mouth to reply, guessing him to be nearby due to the sound of his closer proximity, youâre abruptly cut off.
Before you could even think, you suddenly found yourself unable to move.
A pressure, similar to that of a snakeâs coils, curled around your body. Within mere seconds your arms and legs were effectively pinned to your sides, before you find yourself yanked to the right, and into the imposing darkness of a vacant classroom.
Your startled yelp is the only thing left echoing in the hallway before the door slams shut behind you, and you find yourself leaning back against it.
You hadnât even noticed that the door had been partially open, nor that you were being watched on top of that.
Despite your wide eyes struggling to adjust to the sudden darkness of the room, you can just make out a darker shape in front of you, a silhouette to be more specific.
An instinctive fear washes over you at the thought, though just as quickly as it came, it was gone at yet the sound of another familiar voice.
âWe need to talk,â were the four measly words offered to you gruffly from the man before you.
âOh my god Shouta, you couldâve asked!â The back of your head hits the large door behind you with a dull thud, as you take a breath to try and calm your rapid heart.
âYou nearly gave me a damn heart attack,â you huff out as your eyes close to help yourself focus on calming your racing pulse.
As you flex your arms you find them still pinned to your sides, and itâs here you realise that the snake-like pressure youâd felt earlier had been his scarf.
Your eyes blink open and you can better make out his shape now, though given he stood a few feet from you, you still struggled to make out his features.
However, you did notice the lack of fabric around his neck.
âHonestly, between you and Hizashi Iâm going to find myself in an early grave.â
As though summoned by his name, the man himself made himself known once more, this time his voice seeming to come from the other side of the door you were leaning against.
â(Y/N)? Shouta? Where you guys at?! Helllooooo?!â You didnât think in all the years youâd known the pair of them youâd ever had a normal day.
By the sounds of things he hadnât seen you get pulled into the room, nor did he seem to be aware that either you or Shouta were here to begin with.
Just as you open your mouth to respond to him, youâre once again stopped, though you didnât need the hand against your mouth to keep you quiet.
Your gaze darts from the door to the man now stood directly in front of you, your nose twitching from the hairs on the back of his calloused hand as he held it gently against your lips.
He raises one hand near your head to support his weight against the door, as he focuses on your mutual childhood friend on the other side.
âAww jeez, come on you guys, this isnât funny!â Your blonde friend forlornly calls. His footsteps can be heard moving down the corridor and away from your vicinity.
It isnât until everything once again falls silent, that Shouta drops his hand from your lips, though the lingering warmth leaves a tingling sensation on your skin.
You canât bring yourself to look away as he stands over you, not that you think you could.
His scarf was still enfolded round his hand with you held securely in place on the other end, and you could now make out his masculine features.
Your breath caught in the back of your throat at the realisation that you were alone, in a dark room, with Shouta Aizawa.
A man you may or may not have been having not so platonic thoughts towards, more so lately than ever.
He seemed to tower over you as his chest held steady mere inches from your own. You could just make out his scruffy cheeks, and the messy mane of black hair hanging loose around his shoulders.
Had he alway been so tall and imposing?
He had yet to say anything else to you, and the tension was driving you crazy. You squirmed in your bindings, your action only resulting in a slight tilt of his head.
In all the years youâd known him you donât think youâd ever been quiet as aware of him as you were in this moment.
âShouta, is everything okay?â
âYeah, I justâŠâ as his voice trailed off, you narrow your eyes him, âwanted to talk.â
You feel his fist tightening on the other end of the scarf through your connection, and your anxiety unleashes butterflies within the confines of your tummy.
You mentally shake yourself, cursing your heart for playing tricks when your friend was clearly unsure about something.
âShouta,â you mumble as you take a step from the door in his direction, leaving the support it offered you in favour of checking on your friend, ignoring how close it brought you.
âIf somethings going on, Iâm happy to listen.â Youâre close enough now that each of his exhales ruffles the loose hair of your fringe.
Youâre momentarily distracted by the scent of his cologne and something unique to him, though before you can become lost in your thoughts, you find your limbs suddenly free.
The scarf slithers down your body and pools at your feet in a heap, shin-deep on your smaller stature.
âYeah, I know. Sorry about theâŠâ his voice trails off in a bid to find the right word, and in an attempt to lighten to mood you teasingly offer.
âAbduction?â
He snorts in response, though you pick up on the humoured undertone.
âYeah, I wouldnât have gotten a chance had Hizashi seen you.â No he certainly wouldnât have, you endearingly muse to yourself.
âI acted without thinking. Did I hurt you?â The sudden concern in his voice has your head tilting up towards him.
âNo, Iâm fine, just got a bit of a fright is all, I wasnât expecting⊠that.â You glance around the room in attempt to distract yourself from your inner turmoil, brows furrowing as you wonder why exactly heâd be in here in the first place.
âWere you taking a nap?â
It was the only reason you could think of as to why heâd be here alone during the day.
In answer to your question, he glances over towards where the desk would be, and you just make out the shape of what you assumed to be his large sleeping bag, confirming your guess.
âAh I see, whatâs on your mind then?â
He bows his head as the words leave your lips, the hand which had previously held his scarf now raising to scratch at the back of his neck, as he seemed to search for something to say.
Unbeknownst to you, from the second he brought you in here, heâd been lost for words.
When heâd been awoken to Hizashiâs insistent messages on his phone, it was safe to say he was less than pleased to have his nap interrupted so abruptly.
As he wiggled his way out of his sleeping bag, he nudged it towards the vacant desk as he dragged a hand down his face in an attempt to clear his blurry vision.
Heâd turned towards the doorway of the empty classroom; the only source of light being the sliver of afternoon sun, that had managed to makes its way into the room, from the cracked door.
For a second, heâd thought he was seeing things when he spotted you standing in the warm glow. You were the last person he had been expecting to see standing in the empty corridor.
His irritation had quickly been cast to the side at your appearance, sleep now forgotten at the thought of you, and not for the first time.
You were the last thought on his mind at night and the first when he opened his eyes. Heâd envisioned the day he worked up enough confidence to tell you how he felt.
Things just never seemed to be right, he worried his hero career would endanger you, or that heâd ruin your friendship; something he held dearer than you could ever comprehend.
So many times had the words nearly left him, but youâs were never alone long enough to have a private conversation. Between your conflicting class schedules, students, work and even with Hizashi on the prowl⊠things never worked out.
He loved his job, and his students, and Yamada. The man was like a brother to him, and he would do anything for him, but he sometimes wished for more time with you alone.
And just as the thought crossed his mind, he was moving.
Before he could truly think, he had you ensnared and in his grasp. Heâd acted entirely on a whim, his sleep-addled mind clouding his judgement in a moment of desperate impulse.
And now that he had you before him, tucked away from everyone and everything, he found himself once again, lost for words.
He was painfully aware of the silence between yous, though you didnât seem bothered in the slightest.
âIf youâve changed your mind Shouta, thatâs okay. We can sit in here for a little while if you need some time.â You offer gently in a bid to support him with whatever it was he was battling.
Though much like Shouta, you were warring with yourself, your thoughts and emotions like a hurricane within the confines of your mind.
âShouta-â
âI donât know what to do about youâŠâ he mused soft enough that you nearly missed it despite your close proximity.
You brow quirks at his confession, lips parting to reply, but you didnât know what to say. It was said with an emotion you couldnât quite place, but you could tell there was no malice or irritation to his words.
You briefly considered playing it off with a joking comment, but there was a certain gravity to the atmosphere that made you rethink that idea.
You remained quiet in the hopes heâd explain himself, his confidence seems to have dampened somewhat since you first entered the room, but you know if you gave him time heâd come round.
His gaze lazily rises to settle back on your own, and you found yourself rooted to the spot. Your stomach flipped as his dark orbs glinted with something you couldnât quite place.
You swallow thickly at the realisation that you were on new territory with the man before you, you never had a such an experience with Shouta. Never in all the years since you were children yourself sitting in these classrooms.
One part of you is curious to see where it will go, but another part of you feels apprehension with the situation, though not an entirely bad sense.
For the first time in a long time, you didnât know what to expect with him, and that was unsettling.
You instinctively felt as though a boundary was being crossed, and your dread warred with anticipation in your belly.
âI havenât seen you in a platonic light for some time now. I donât know when it started, or how, but youâre someone Iâve come to see as⊠more.â
Your breath caught in your throat at his admission, eyes widening and lips parting as he continued.
âI donât want to ruin what we have, but youâve monopolised my thoughts for some time now. If you donât feel the same, then Iâll respect that. Iâll put my feelings to rest and we can forget about what I just said.â
How could you ever forget about this?
For so long now youâve tried to fight back your own romantic feelings, and to find out that all this time heâs been going through the exact same thingâŠ
You swallow thickly at the thought, all that time wasted, if youâd been braver yourself⊠if youâd just acted in a little bit of confidence like he had.
You didnât realise that youâd become lost in thought, not until he dropped his head and looked to the side.
âYou donât-â
âWhat if I donât want you to?â You felt a slight pang of guilt for interrupting him, but the words were out your mouth before you could stop them, though he didnât appear bothered.
His head whips back to you, you could make out his wide eyes and parted lips in the dull light, and you knew youâd caught him off guard, just as he had you.
You decide to shove aside your anxiety and worry, and bite the bullet, just like him.
âI donât want to forget about this, Iâve-â you suck in a shuddering breath as your fists clench at your aides.
âIâve felt the same way about you for so long, I was always just⊠I was worried you never felt the same way, that Iâd ruin everything.â
Youâd had your suspicions that a shift had occurred in your friendship, that he mightâve considered you as more, but youâd never dared to let yourself believe it.
You blink open your eyes when you feel a warmth engulf your fist, you donât know when youâd closed them, but your eyes fluttered open as you looked to find Shouta before you.
You glanced down to your hand in his, and a wave of energy sparked at his touch.
âYou could never ruin anything.â
Your breath catches in your throat as a shiver makes its way down your spine. He had a glint in his eye you couldnât quite place, and that paired with the intensity of his gaze and the huskiness of his tone made you weak in the knees.
A part of you had always felt guilty for wanting more with him, youâd always stomped down the intrusive thoughts that flooded your mind when heâd get to close, or youâd see him do anything that remotely peaked your interest.
âIf youâre having second thoughts, nows the time to say it.â His voice was like music to the ears, and as the words registered in your mind, you only shook your head.
You nervously lick your lips as you feel the air shift, and the nervous habit has his eyes darting downwards, an action you donât miss. You feel the heat in your cheeks, and you only hope he doesnât notice.
âIâm a selfish man (Y/N),â
Goosebumps erupt along your arms as he raises both his arms up your own, before coming to settle upon your face.
âI donât think I could let you go so easily once itâs official.â
Your heart skips at his words, your heart rate once again picking up as he leans closer towards you.
His nimble hands cup your cheeks as his face stops and hovers a few centimetres from your own.
âI wouldnât want you to.â
As the words leave you, you briefly hear the catch in his breath before he finally closes the distance between yous, his lips capturing yours as swiftly as his weapon had with you earlier.
You both lean into the contact, exploring this new experience together, an eagerness building as yous get lost in the moment together.
One of his hands drops to gently squeeze your waist before settling on your lower back, pulling you closer if possible.
Your breath catches in your throat as you tilt your head, your own hands scrunching in his rumpled shirt. His stubble tickles your cheeks, and you kick yourself for waiting so long.
You take a step back to steady yourself as he leans into you, and just as you do your foot catches on the scarf around your feet.
However, before you could loose your footing, Shouta was moving.
Quicker than a cat, the hand encircling your waist held you close, pulling you into him as he catches you both with his outstretched spare hand.
He makes contact with a sharp thud on the door, jolting you slightly, the impact pulls a grunt from his throat and your ears prick at the sound.
You look back up to him only to find yourself engulfed in his presence, and you find you donât mind at all.
You grin up at him, and the usually stoic man smiles back down at you as you breath a laugh.
âMy hero,â you murmur affectionately, a nickname that has him humming in response as he leans down to rest his head in the crook of your neck.
He nuzzles into you like a big cat, his breath sending another shiver down your spine as you bask in this new affectionate side of him.
âAlways,â he vowed solemnly, and you could only lean into him in response. You both savoured the moment, a comfortable silence falling over you, though it was long before he spoke up.
âSorry I got carried away.â Your brows furrowed for a second, lost for a a second before you realise what it was he was referring to.
Your cheeks warm at the reminder, though that didnât stop you from teasing back, âDidnât hear me complaining, did you?â
He pulls back once more to look you in the eye, before raising back to his full height with a mischievous smirk pulling at the corners of his lips as he eyed you, âno, I donât suppose I did.â
Your sudden spark of confidence was quickly doused in the moment, anticipation of the unknown causing a buzz to ignite in your veins as he zeroed back on your lips.
Though just as he dips his head and you raise to meet him half way, an obnoxious ringing suddenly shatters the moment.
Yous both pause, and you watch as a line appears between Shoutaâs brows as the noise continues.
You drop back onto the flats of your feet as Shouta takes a step back and pulls out his phone.
The sudden brightness of the screen has him squinting to make out who exactly was calling him, and you find yourself amused as he squeezes his eye shut with a sigh before holding he phone away and hitting answer.
You could guess who it was with the action alone before you hear the unmistakable voice of your best friend.
âShouta my man! Do you have any idea how long Iâve been looking for you?!â Shouta rubs at his forehead, though youâre guiltily grateful heâd left it this long to get in touch with yous.
You pull out your own phone as Shouta attempts to calm down your extroverted friend, and notice heâd messaged and called you a few times as well; though given youâd left your phone on do not disturb youâd been ignorant of his plight.
Guilt nips at you again, you felt bad that heâd been trying to get in touch for so long, but another part of you was glad that youâd been able to have this moment with Shouta.
You raise your attention back to him as you put your phone away, only to find that heâd turned his back to you as he spoke, âyeah yeah, Iâll be over in a minute.â
You could still make out the distinct tone of Yamadaâs voice, though couldnât quite make out the words given heâd lowered his voice somewhat.
â(Y/N)?â You attention zeros in on Aizawa as your name falls from his lips, and in that moment he turns a to look at you from over his shoulder.
âI- she might still be in her class. Iâll stop by on my way over.â He offered convincingly.
âYeah, itâs not unlike her to turn it off whilst teaching.â
Ah, you realise Hizashi must have asked after you, and you again felt a mix of guilt and gratitude at the lie.
âYeah, yeah Iâll see you soon.â And with those parting words, he ending the call and closed his phone.
Yous were once again plunged into darkness, though you could still make out his silhouette facing your direction.
âSorry I lied, I thought it would be easier.â His hesitant tone pulled a small smile from your lips.
âThat alright,â you soothed, âitâll probably be better to explain in person once weâre ready, no?â
He once again hummed in agreement, before walking over to collect his sleeping bag.
âHeâs in the teachers lounge waiting, said heâs wasting away on his own.â
You chuckle at his words, a vivid picture of Hizashi and his dramatics painting your mind. He was the biggest goofball in the world, and never failed to make you smile with his antics.
âGotta love him.â You beamed affectionately, whilst bundling up his scarf from the floor before waiting patiently for him by the door.
Though Shouta shared the same opinion, he couldnât help but feel somewhat frustrated at the interruption, though he agreed with you none the less as he closed the distance between yous.
You arrange the fabric in such a way that heâd be able to one again wear the material, and as he comes to stand next to you, you raise it up for him to do so.
He bows his head towards you so didnât have to reach so far, and given his hands were full with his sleeping bag you were happy to oblige.
As it once again settles on and around his shoulders, you smooth out the fabric for him so it didnât affect his vision.
âPerfect,â you crooned thoughtfully as you take in your handy work.
When you turn and move to pull the door handle, he once again reaches out and takes hold of your hand, cradling it as he lifts it closer to his face.
Just as you begin to wonder what he was doing, he places a tender kiss to the back of your skin.
âCan we talk more later?â The soft hopeful note in his voice had you melting.
âOf course, though we can maybe leave the lassoing aspect out of this time.â You tease playfully, earning you a boyish grin.
âAs you wish,â he chuckles in response. It wasnât often the man laughed, and when he did it never failed to catch your attention.
He releases your hand and reaches out for the door himself, pulling it open and holding it there for you to pass through first.
You duck beneath his arm with a quick thank you, eyes squinting with the sudden change in light. You briefly wondered how long yous had been in there together, as you hadnât thought to focus on the time when youâd checked your phone.
Though as Aizawa fell into step beside you, the back of his hand brushing against your own, you found your mind wondering to what had occurred in that time instead.
Yous could discuss the intricacies and decide on the best way to share your news later, but for the time being, you were happy to remain drunk on the fuzzy feeling within you.
-John comforts you when you shoot someone for the first time.
Laughter tumbled from your lips effortlessly as you watch another rerun of your favourite show for the umpteenth time.
It didnât matter how many time you watched this programme, it never failed to lighten your mood.
As you turn the volume up slightly with one hand, you absentmindedly use the other to play with Dogâs ear, the action rewarding you with a contented sigh.
Yous had been cuddled up with one another for what seemed like hours, tucked under a thick blanket in your own little world as you lay on the large couch together.
John had left earlier that morning to run errands, though you doubted that consisted of anything remotely domestic or innocent; especially given heâd left near 10 that morning and it was now creeping towards midnight.
You werenât stupid, very far from in fact.
Heâd admitted to you himself he was still doings less than savoury jobs, though you supposed that was part of his way of keeping you away from that side of him.
You just wish he didnât have to.
Not knowing where he was or what he was doing worried you to your core, and despite trying to put on a brave face you knew John was aware of how you felt.
You just wanted him to be safe. When yous had started dating nearly a year ago you knew what you were getting into, you knew who he was and what he done, but nothing could have prepared you for the dread you felt every time he walked out that door.
You just had to trust that he could take care of himself, and you knew he could. You didnât just gain a reputation like the one he had, you earned it through literal blood, sweat and tears.
And John Wick had certainly earned it. But that didnât stop you from worrying about him, what if he was hurt right now?
Seeming to sense your troubled thoughts, Dog raised his sleepy head as he sniffed at your chin.
âOh hey buddy,â you coo gently towards your furry friend, hand moving to scratch his head. In return he delivered half a dozen sloppy kisses to your chin, all of which you accepted happily.
Nose scrunching somewhat as you smiled at his actions.
âOh thank you, that was so nice.â His tongue lolled out at your words, making it look as though he was smiling at you and you couldnât help bit laugh at his goofy expression as he panted away beside you.
âYouâre such a good boy, the absolute bestest boy in the whole world.â
Mind currently taken away from the tv and your thoughts, you give all your attention towards Dog.
And it would seem youâd effectively captured his attention also as neither of you immediately noticed the figure standing in the doorway.
Momentarily unbeknownst to you John had returned, however, he didnât immediately make himself known.
Instead, he took in the scene before him.
The sight of you and Dog lying safe and happy on the sofa, had a warmth spreading within his chest.
His day was swept aside as he watched you coo and dote over Dog.
The sight wasnât exactly anything new, you were never hesitant or slow to show just how much you loved having Dog in your life but tonight felt different.
Everything else seemed to slow down as he watched your interaction, everything seeming to fade out bar the moment you were having.
He didnât think heâd ever be so jealous of a dog, yet here he was.
Knowing youâd be here waiting for him is what had motivated him all day. Knowing heâd get to return home to find you here safe and sound had pushed him do what he had to do.
Heâd wanted nothing more all day than to be here with you; yous hadnât known each other two year yet, and despite that fact he couldnât describe the effect youâd had in his life.
Guilt nipped at him everytime he left, he knew you worried, but it was a necessary evil. It wouldnât be long now, with any luck, and you could share these days together with no worries or ties.
He didnât think heâd ever want something so domestic; he didnât think he deserved it, but here he was. And the thought alone, of what could and would be was enough to put him at ease.
A content sigh escapes him, a feeling of peace finally washing over him, and just as the whisper of a breath leaves his lips, the very creature that had captured your attention suddenly turns to look at him instead.
Dog wastes no time in rising from his own reclined position as he stands upon the couch, tongue out and tail going a mile a minute, seemingly torn between running to greet him and leaving you behind.
Not a second later you finally turn your attention to him aswell and the smile that instantly lights up your face has his chest tightening.
He didnât know what heâd done to deserve such a welcome home, but he knew what heâd do to keep it.
âJohn,â the affection in your tone was like music to his ears, his eyes close momentarily as he savours the sound like a fine wine.
âWelcome home, how was your day?â When he opens them again, he finds youâve sat up to give him room to sit beside you, a spot he wastes no time in claiming as he allows himself to sit down for the first time in hours.
His smile falters for a second, but you catch it.
âIt was⊠tough.â
Dog clumsily steps over you before allowing his weight to drop between the pair of you, tail still wagging as he looks between yous adoringly.
John takes to petting his head, copying your early actions. His voice sounded rough, like he hadnât used it all day, which knowing John you could believe. He wasnât one to waste words after all.
âAre you hurt at all?â You knew he more than likely didnât want to think about today, especially now he was within the comfort of his own home, but you had to know.
His dark gaze flicks towards you, fully capturing you in its warmth given his hair was slicked back behind his ears.
âSuperficial at best,â you breathe a sigh of relief, you could live with that. Cuts and bruises were nothing compared to what could happen.
âIs there anything I can do? Do you want a drink? Something to eat? I can run you a bath if youâd like? Or-â
He placed a hand on your arm, and the action effectively cuts you off.
âIâm good, thank you.â You can only blink at him, suddenly lost for words now that your train of thought had been derailed.
You could feel your cheeks heat up the longer he kept his attention on you, and as a result you dropped your gaze as you fiddled with the corner of the blanket on your lap.
â(Y/N), I⊠appreciate everything you do.â
You turned back to him, a small but meaningful smile pulling at your lips, âyeah I know. Your actions speak volumes.â
And they certainly did, what John mightâve lacked in words he certainly made up for in gestures and action.
You knew in the way heâd surprise you with your meals, in the way youâd have a fresh bouquet of flowers every week, in the way your favourite snacks would always be fully stocked and in the way he always made sure to put your needs before his own.
You knew in the way heâd kiss your knuckles and hold you close, how heâd alway walk on the outside of the pavement and pull out your chairs, how heâd alway be there to carry your things or hold open doors despite the countless times youâd told him not too.
Not because you didnât appreciate it, but because he generally didnât have to. He was unlike anyone youâd ever met, let alone dated.
Youâd never had the best luck when it came to your love life, but John exceeded all your expectations. He was nothing if not a true modern gentleman.
Youâd never thought love was something you could achieve, and yet John made it seem to effortless. It was never something either of yous had said out loud, but this feeling in your chest⊠you wanted a future with this man.
âJohn I, I think IâŠâ
His eyes briefly stray from yours, and youâre stunned for a second at the transformation in him. His eyes are now cold and focused, his mouth set in a firm line as he stares at something behind you.
Not a second later heâs on his feet, and you rise to stand beside him. You reach for his arm as you follow his gaze, to the floor to ceiling windows behind yous but you see nothing.
You gaze back to him imploringly.
âJohn? Whatâs wrong?â
Youâre momentarily distracted by him grabbing your hand, though unlike with past instances, dread fills you.
The feeling of something solid and cold being pressed into your hands has your gaze dropping down, and the sight has your heart jumping into your throat as your eyes shoot back up to Johnâs.
With a shake of your head you open your mouth to object but the look on his face has the words on your lips dying.
âRun.â
You didnât need to be told twice.
John had never raised his voice at you, nor had he ever spoken to you with such a sharp, desperate urgency.
So when that one syllable was barked at you, youâd done exactly that. You trusted him, and you knew that for him to be able to do what he had to do, you had to be out the way.
Despite every fibre of your being wanting to stay with him, you knew youâd be more of a hindrance than a help. So instead you call your furry friend and do exactly as heâd asked.
You run up the stairs, with Dog hot on your heels; the sudden sound of breaking glass and gunfire only spurs you both on in your mission to reach the top.
Itâs as though your action was the catalyst for the chaos that just took over the house.
You run down the top hallway, your mind set on getting to one of the spare rooms nearer the back of the house.
Dog was ahead of you, occasionally glancing back to check on you, but yous were both stopped in your tracks when a large body dove out from one of the doorways to your left.
They had effectively placed themselves between you and Dog, who had instantly turned to face the intruder from behind.
Barking and snarling unlike anything youâd ever heard instantly filled the corridor, the usually sweet-natured creature now turned into the predator he actually was.
Despite the situation you couldnât help but compare him to his master in a second of consideration.
Though it seemed thatâs all the man needed, for not a second later, he rushed at you. You caught the faint glint of a knife, but thatâs all you could make out with his all black ensemble. You couldnât even see his face from the balaclava.
As he charged at you, hands out and ready to do god knows what; dog lunged from behind, and the momentum had the man falling into you, but before you could process the situation, your arms had raised up.
A sharp clap of a noise erupted in the small space, and a ringing instantly broke out in your ears as you tripped over your feet backing away from the man.
You land harshly on your rear end, though any thought of that quickly slithers from your mind when you see the brute of a man lowing face down on the floor.
Dog was upon his back, with a mouthful of his thick clothing locked in his jaws as he whipped his head sporadically from side to side, growling all the while.
Your lips tremble at the sound of the manâs hollow ragged breathing, the blood staining the rug was quickly forming a circle around his upper chest and you realise you must have shot something important.
You had no experience at all with firearms, but you didnât think a gunshot wound at point blank range in a major organ was something anyone would lightly walk off.
Youâre brought from your thoughts at the sight of Dog jumping towards you, putting himself between you and the downed threat.
A wave of protectiveness washes over you, and you hazily push yourself to your feet as a result, mind focused on finding somewhere safe for you and Dog.
Thatâs all you had to do, all you needed to focus on. Nothing else.
You urge yourself to push forward, pressing yourself to the wall in a bid to pass the man still struggling on the floor. Dog right behind you as you sprint the rest of the way down the hall and fling open the door at the end.
At the sight of dog rushing past you, you slam the door shut and quickly make your way to the closet where you throw yourself in before shutting the door.
You donât know how long you sit there, the sound of gunshots like a clap of thunder every few seconds ring in your ears as you sit curled into yourself with your hands still clinging onto the gun.
One finger hovering over the trigger, you donât even know if it had reloaded⊠but you do know you didnât want to have to use it again. The image of that man was burned into your mind, and you could no longer hold back the tears burning at the back of your eyes.
Everything just seemed to catch up to you in this moment of solitude, and not even Dogâs steady presence could help you.
Dog was sat behind you, tucked into the corner in your bid to protect him should someone try, but in all honestly you didnât know if youâd have the strength to use it again.
You couldnât help but think that not even 10 minutes ago youâd had been curled up on the sofa, the picture of ease and happiness. And now yous were cowering in the back of a dark cupboard, waiting for the unknown.
It doesnât take long for the bullets to start evening out in their frequency, and before you know it, they stop all together. The house is silent, and you find the sudden quietness more eerie than the violence from moments ago.
You take deep breaths through your mouth in order to make less noise, straining your ears for the slightest sound as you pray to a god you donât even believe in that John was safe and sound.
He had been so quick to arm and defend you, and despite knowing you done the right thing, you couldnât help the guilt knowing youâd left him to whatever was happening downstairs.
Time seems to have slowed down entirely as you waited, it couldnât have been ten minutes since the last shot was fired, but it felt like an eternity since youâd heard anything.
No news was sometimes good, but in this instance you felt so overwhelmed, you couldnât keep up with the thoughts and feelings whipping through your mind like a hurricane.
Finally, beyond the frantic beating of your heart, your ears pick up on a sound.
The soft whoosh of a door followed by the slow, measured footsteps coming from outside the cupboard door has your heart plummeting.
The plush carpet of Johnâs spare room helped to muffle the strangerâs steps, but to you they seemed deafening in the moment.
You took slow steady breaths through your mouth in an attempt to stifle any little noise, your hand curled up round dogs head; which heâd placed upon your shoulder from behind as the other kept and iron-grip on the gun.
He too was focused on the sound, and you prayed he remained silent.
With every passing second the steps crept closer to the door, you could kick yourself for how badly you trembled.
You were still shaking from having to use the weapon in your hand not ten minutes ago.
You could still hear the ringing in your ears⊠could still feel the ache in your hand from how tightly youâd held onto the weapon in the moment.
Your lip trembled at the thought; youâd killed someone.
Your heart jumps into your throat when not a second later, the door opens and you see a hand reaching towards you. Holding back your tears, you kick and punch manically, limbs flying as you attempt to protect yourself and Dog.
The poor pup had been crammed behind you in your bid to keep him safe, but that didnât stop him from barking and snarling wildly next to you, clearly feeding off your distress.
But you immediately freeze when a very familiar voice says your name.
â(F/N),â
The low gravelly tone has relief washing over you, as you rise to your knees and reach for him, the gun landing with a soft thud as you drop it in the process.
He takes hold of both your forearms, gentle enough not to hurt you, but with enough strength to pull you towards him the rest of the way, and into a tight hug.
And itâs here you truly let everything out.
Your tears fall with more urgency, burning streaks into your cheeks as they fall. You knew you mustâve looked a state, but you couldnât bring yourself to care.
You cling to John was just as much power as he does you, hands grasping onto onto one other as yous buried your faces in each others neck.
You try to take comfort in the familiarity of John, of his steady presence, the reassuring weight of his arms around you, even the smell of him and his clothing.
Though you find the later tainted somewhat of sweat and gunpowder. The image of the man in the hallway strikes at you at the thought and your grip tightens if possible.
âShhh, itâs okay,â John tries to sooth you, one hand rubbing slow methodical circles on your back as the other keeps ahold on you.
âBreath ĐŃĐ±ĐžĐŒĐ°Ń, youâre safe.â
Safe⊠his words sink in, and you grasp onto that reassurance. your boys were safe and thatâs all that mattered. John was in your arms, solid and breathing, and Dog was at your side.
Yet despite that comfort, you couldnât stop thinking about what youâd done.
âItâs alright, let it out, Iâve got you.â The low rumble of his deep voice curled over you like a blanket.
You pull back somewhat, tears still falling as your limbs tremble in his hold, the burden pushing you to confess.
âI, I killed him-â you swallow thickly as the words leave your mouth, lips trembling with the weight of the words.
âI shot- shot him, I didnât- he didnât,â you donât know what you were trying to say, your mind was a mess of thoughts and feelings all clambering over each other to get to the forefront of your mind.
âHe-â before you can utter another syllable, John cups the back of your head and guides you back to the crook of his neck.
âYou did what you had to do.â
You squeeze your eyes shut at his words; you donât even know if you had to, you didnât know what his intentions were. What if heâd just meant to subdue you?
One part of your mind couldnât hold back the guilt you felt, the constant worry of what of flooding your mind. Though another part of you, the more stubborn side argues that it shouldnât matter, he had been an intruder in your home and he had charged at you.
Even Dog had acted on instinct.
Youâd never thought he had it in him truth be told, though you supposed he took after his master in that regard; appeared calm and collected, but could be dangerous when he needed to be.
Your mind and your heart warred within you, all the while John remained as he was, metaphorically and literally holding you together.
You remained like that for a few more minutes before John pulled back, his hands raising to gently cup your face as he took this moment to analyse you; no doubt in a bid to spot any possible injuries youâd sustained.
âIâm fine,â you reassure as you raise a hand to place over his own, the other rose to wipe at your face.
It was safe to say he didnât seem convinced.
âHonestly, Iâm not hurt, just⊠exhausted.â
That seemed the best word to describe you right now, and John nodded in reply, seeming to accept that answer.
âCome on,â John helped you to your feet, holding you steady as you both rose to your respective full heights. You ended up staring at his chest, nose still close enough that you caught a whiff of his cologne.
âWait here.â Without thinking, you instantly reach out and grip onto his hand as he takes a step away from you.
He turns his head back to look at you, his gaze dropping briefly to your hand before rising back to your own (e/c) orbs, so full of emotion.
âItâs okay, Iâll be back in a minute, I promise.â
He soothed in a low rumble, and you drop your hand with a faint heat to your cheeks. You hadnât even meant to grab him, panic had set in upon seeing him leave and youâd acted without thinking.
John doesnât say anything more on the matter, and instead turned towards the door which youâd only just noticed was closed.
His large frame blocks your view as he reaches out and takes hold of the handle. He paused briefly, a few strands of hair slipping from where itâs had been neatly styled back, as he tilts his head as though he considered looking back at you.
Dog had taken a few steps towards him, however after mumbling a low âstayâ, John had opened the door just enough for him to slip through and close it behind him.
You and Dog both stare at where heâd been stood mere seconds ago, Dog remaining exactly where heâd been when John had uttered the command.
Though he breaks a second later with a low whine as he turns and walks back to you. You crouch at his approach and ruffle his neck as he comes to stand before you.
He offers you support in the form of his signature sloppy kisses, and you hope your presence was comforting him even half as much as his was you.
âYouâre a good boy, thank you,â he looks at you before turning is attention back to the door, tail swinging lazily before gradually speeding up at the sound of the handle going and the door swinging open.
John stood before you once again, looking the picture of ease, though you suspected deep down he was anything but.
He held out his hand to you, and you wasted no time in closing the distance between yous to take it.
Your curiosity on where heâd gone was quickly answered, when you glanced down the corridor and saw only a duvet on the floor lying flat where the man had been.
Had he⊠you glance up at John as you walk down the corridor, trying to distract yourself as well as ponder the thought that heâd come out here to try and make this experience easier for you.
The body was gone and the blood was covered so you couldnât see it. With John, actions were his way of communicating, and despite the morbid circumstance of the gesture it was appreciated none the less.
You squeezed his hand in thanks as he lead you down the stairs, Dog hot on your heels.
You donât ask questions, donât even pause to take in your surroundings.
You keep your gaze down as he guides you through the house, but you didnât need to see the full extent of your surroundings to know the damage the building had sustained, especially the interior.
You look up properly when you reached what you realised was the garage. John held the door open and as you ducked into the room you were led to his car.
He opened the car door and you both allowed Dog to jump in first so he could settle in the back; you quickly followed suit and once you were in John gently shut the door over before making his way round to the drivers side.
As the garage door opened, the engine purred to life.
You glance at John only to find him already looking at you, his dark gaze capturing your own as yous take a moment to appreciate the other.
âWhere are we going?â You inquire hoarsely.
âI donât know,â you didnât really expect an answer truth be told, and you accepted his honesty.
As he pulled out of the garage, you closed your eyes and took a deep breath. It dawned on you then that it didnât truly matter where yous went. As long as the three of yous were together, youâd go anywhere.
âTogether at least,â you mumble quietly more so to yourself as you look out of the window.
âYeah.â
Hours later John finally pulls the car onto the gravel driveway of a rural safe house heâd set up a while back; just in case he ever needed a place to lay low.
The rain battered against the windscreen as he pulled the car to a stop, and removed the key from the ignition.
Surrounded by trees, a small distance away from the rest of the world, he took a moment to rest. He found himself turning to look at you, passed out in the passenger seat with your head buried in the blazer heâd given you earlier on your journey.
Youâd folded it up as gently as you could despite him telling you it was fine, but youâd insisted on respecting his things.
Once you were done you had placed it between your head and the window, and despite how uncomfortable you looked, he took comfort in the peaceful expression on your face.
Such a stark contrast to earlier, the very thought had his heart tightening in his chest.
Before youâd dozed youâd told him about what had happened, and he found his gaze flicking to the back seat only to see Dog also passed out in a curled position on the back seat.
Or as you liked to put it, a doggy donut. A smile pulls at the corner of his lips at the thought.
His eyes flutter shut as he takes a few seconds to savour the tranquility of the moment; the knowledge that you were both safe and here with him was a comfort like no other.
A heavy sigh escapes him, and as his eyes open, he catches sight of Dog peering at him tiredly from the back.
Roused from his slumber, either by John himself or by the weather, Dogs tail starts thumping against the seat when he realised heâd captured his masters attention.
Turning in his chair, John reaches back and as he does so Dog sleepily rises to meet him half way.
He gently strokes Dogâs neck as the gentle giant himself stretches in a bid to lick at his chin, an action John canât bring himself to avoid.
Heâd heard the commotion from Dog earlier, the barking and snarling wasnât a sound the animal often made so it had stood out at the time; and knowing it was in defence of youâŠ
Well to say he was relieved was an understatement.
âYouâre a good dog.â The pooch merely pants in response, clueless to just how grateful John was for him. For the both of them.
