Howdy! We're Xan (he/they) and Dez (she/her), a nerdy couple who make cc, tell stories, and do builds. Our genres vary between goth, horror, sci-fi and fantasy/semi-historical. We're queer, and WCIFF, and everything we post is free.
Be aware that if you talk to or about our characters, there is a chance they will talk back. Usually because it's fun.
FYI: This is a side blog! Asks, comments, and likes will come from @xandamonium or @countess-d. You won't see Sims stuff from either of those blogs--it's all here, or on our finds-blog, @xds-finds!
Yes, I'm that guy that has a story playlist. (I'll have you know I have 15 of them. This is just the relevant one.)
Figured since I've asked you to slog through this story, you can at least have the soundtrack. There are some weird ones in here. It is absolutely for a reason.
(Content warnings: death mention, body horror, a little implied spice)
Thank you @morrigan-sims for enabling me. Buckle up! It's time to talk about Frederick's shadow, and how it met the terrible ghost that changed everything. Because we can't talk about the how without getting into the why, and the reason why is: the Cosmic Power Beyond Comprehension is a spoiled brat, and didn't like being told "no."
Jokes aside, this is the summarized version of Book 1 in an unwritten series. But, it's a story I've never gotten to tell, so I went all-out. I even made some visuals to help break up the text. (Showing interest gets you max effort.) Hopefully they add something to this wall.
There are footnotes in the alt text. Full CC credits at the end. Now, without further ado: let's go!
Being a warlord's only son saw Frederick growing up with nothing but books. He was a teenager when his father's partner joined their family, and he was happy for the company. They got along well, and Frederick confided in him. Silly things, mostly, like the fact that he had an imaginary friend when he was little. “He was like me,” Frederick laughed, embarrassed, “But strong and brave. I didn’t even come up with a name. I just called him Fred.”
When it came time for Frederick to go out into the world, Jasper remembered this little story. And when he summoned Something to guard his lover’s only child, he bound the unknowable Thing with the most powerful force in creation: a name. That name.
Assigning this Being as a spectral babysitter to a 20-something was like following a kid to school with a tank. “Overkill” would be an understatement. Freddie didn’t even know it was there. The nature of the binding dictated that this Spirit of Burning Destruction, from now on known as Fred, only came into play if Freddie was in mortal danger. Odds were, it would never be needed.
Unfortunately for him, that’s where V comes in.
You see, something Very Bad happened to Helvah’s family…and his brother, Vischias, was the cause. But boys will do anything but go to therapy, so—having decided that his death was actually Helvah’s fault—V rocked up to the Kingdom hell-bent on punishing him. V was amused to learn his baby brother had a boyfriend. What better way to hurt him than to take away what made him happy? So, V set out to hunt little Frederick down, using Helvah as his puppet. Literally.
Which, of course, brought him face-to-face with Fred.
Anticipating a threat, the binding’s defense channeled the Spirit into Freddie’s body, putting him to sleep while Fred took over. Freddie isn’t a fighter, and Helvah is twice his size—but Fred managed to fend V off, and even wounded him in the fight. This piqued V’s interest enough to delay his murder plans, in favor of finding out just what this Thing was capable of. In life, V was a hunter. And boy, he loved a challenge.
What followed was a very fucked-up game of cat and mouse, in which these two played chess using their charge and brother as pawns. Both got hurt, again and again, but Fred just magicked the damage away, then removed their memories. No harm done! Never mind that both Helvah and Frederick were noticeably losing time. Anyway, Fred was having a blast. It was fascinated by this twisted ghost, and if sparring with him kept Frederick safe, well, Fred was just doing its job.
But, they couldn’t play dolls all the time. Even ghosts have limits. When he wasn't hijacking his brother, V wandered, biding his time until he could try again. Fred decided to seek him out away from the squishy mortals, but what it found in those halls was not what it expected. Its quarry wasn't just a human. He was little more than a boy. Drawn by its nature to suffering and pain, Fred stared into those haunted eyes, and saw them both gazing back.
V was likewise baffled to find that what he’d been fighting wasn’t a person at all. It was Something he couldn't even name. He was equal parts mystified and resigned to his fate. This was the end of the game. That Thing could obliterate him in an instant, and it clearly meant to.
Except, it wasn't, and it didn't. Instead, Fred gave V shit for being cute (partly to cope with the shock), and asked wtf he had to be upset about. Surprisingly, V answered. Being horrifically murdered isn't fun, and his life wasn't exactly a picnic before. Even dying hadn't made the Noise go away, hadn't fixed everything that was wrong with him. It didn't matter if this terrifying entity atomized him on the spot. If anything, he hoped it would. Maybe that would finally be his way out.
Things like Fred don't have empathy. It's antithetical to their design. But whether from its bond to Freddie, or the time spent playing murder tag, it found itself a little fond of V. He was fun to have around. It wasn't like anyone was being hurt...at least, not permanently. So, the arrangement held for a while longer.
Time passed, and Fred got to know its new "friend." Some days, it found him on the castle wall, staring at the drop with clear intent. It learned that talking to him could delay what came next. It learned that V was left-handed, and colorblind. That he had played piano, excelled, and hated it. Fred learned that he sometimes heard a Noise that wasn't real, and it drove him into rages. Rarely, V would talk about the Darkness, a 'curse' that filled his mind with scratching and screams. Inherited madness. Once, he had feared it would destroy him. He actually smiled as he said it. The irony was not lost on him.
Even as they played their little game, the void's call was always clear in his eyes. Madness, it seems, was less fun when it was your own. Fred did its best to distract him, and soon, the chase would continue.
Then, abruptly, the game changed. Some other things happened. Some of them involving their hosts directly. And with pretending to be their hosts, resulting in some...situations. It got complicated.
Very complicated.
Don't worry about it, never mind, the point is: Fred eventually decided it liked its weird playmate enough to keep him. It was used to having its way. Surely, it was all right to keep playing this game. It had everything in hand. It was fine.
Or, it thought so, until the day V snapped and almost killed Frederick on accident. Both were shocked, but none more than Fred as he was summoned suddenly and immediately to Jasper. His master had found out what was going on and, needless to say, was fucking pissed. Healing someone you allowed to be hurt doesn't count as protection, and Fred was up shit-creek for playing fast and loose with Freddie's life. Jasper commanded it to destroy its pet monster.
Against its will, Fred sought out its friend one final time.
It did not find him where it left him. V fled to the dubious comfort of his once-home—the site of his death—and there, he waited for oblivion. Fred knew at once that any fight he put up would be for show alone; V was more than ready for oblivion. It had seen him gaze at too many knives, stand on too many roofs, to think otherwise. His death had not freed him. He was clearly hoping this would.
Thanks to the binding, Fred had no choice but to give him what he wanted. Still, they hesitated, and V noticed. "You cannot save me," he said, in a rare moment of clarity. "Don't try." With all they had seen of him and his torment, Fred knew they would be doing him a favor.
But favors weren't really Fred's style. And they don't take kindly to orders. As a Spirit of Destruction, they could not mend what V had lost...but they could break things. So, instead of ending V's existence, Fred broke their wards and ended everything else. They tore a hole in reality and, stealing resources as they went, plunged them both into another world.
And pulled every single person that mattered with them. Helvah, and Frederick, their families, their friends—the sprawling web of human connection dragged them all along. The invaded world was instantly unstable, struggling to accommodate for the sudden influx of lives—but Fred wasn't worried about that. V was alive now, and Fred was no longer bound. So, everything was fixed. Happy Ending!
Except, it wasn't. Fred didn't fix shit. V was alive, but he was still V, with all the problems he had before. Life had not spared him the first time—and it was only a matter of time before his fate caught up, too.
That's how it started. How it's going depends on where you look. If you've seen Victor or Fred tagged on this blog, aside a few Simblreen posts, you've already been seeing the results of the Break. Anywhere they show up is a fracture in the universe, caused by this event. In every world, it eventually goes wrong, and V dies again. And Fred just dusts off their hands, and makes the next jump. Because they may be a Spirit of Desolation, fed on pain and death, but they're not a quitter.
If you actually reached this point—what are you doing here?! No one should have made it this far. I don't have a bribe to give you this time unless you take unborn children. Thank you for getting all the way down here. I hope you enjoyed it.

A tortured ghost, beyond redemption, and an all-powerful Being to which pity is unknown. What could possibly go wrong?
@morrigan-sims I need you to know that by being lovely and asking one little question, you started something. (This is 2 edits out of approximately 10.) In asking about the Thing that broke a world, you opened the flood gates of something we've never been able to share before. So I apologize in advance, but you're getting a wall shortly.

Lord Wrath is...not super popular at social events. (Which is fine, because he hates them.) But you can't say he isn't well-dressed.
Surprise. I wanted to finally share my favorite recolor. Witcher bases are incredibly hard to recolor, so I of course redid it three times. Since it's Wrath's main outfit, it really needed to pop. Only the HQ version for now. I'll update it with a non-HQ when I have brain-space. (Won't take long, I just haven't slept.)

Only the most adept wizard could be made Head of the Sorcerer Clan, and Archmage Faire was adept in ways no one after him could attain. Able to summon down lightning or flame with a gesture, Faire was nevertheless the diplomat of the Traerid, reserving use of his power for only the most dire circumstances.
"Though his son and great-grandson carried on his great legacy, no one before or since could match the raw power of Lord Faire."
Yes, I overdid it with this edit, but in my defense--it was fun. Also, Faire is insanely OP, and we do love when patient people lose their tempers. You'd never believe he's a huge nerd scholar.
Unedited below. Fun fact: most of the effects you see are in-game. All I did was polish them up.
