Reasons For The Quiet!
Hey, so, I've failed to deliver on some promises. There are reasons for that. I was sick, yeah, and one of our creatures needed medical care, but also...
We.
Have.
KITTENSSS!
And...that's a problem. Not actually good news, because mama is young, and homeless. But it's hard not to be a little happy. I mean, kittens are awesome. So, we brought them in. It wasn't even a question.
Lady Gray is one of our local ferals. We weren't even certain she was a she until Monday. She delivered five seemingly healthy potatoes in secret. We discovered them when one of these spuds (the blond) squirmed out of their hiding place, only to get stuck in a cobweb--and then, started screeching.
Cue a daring rescue: knowing she wouldn't follow us inside, we locked up our other kids, I picked up the cat shelter--babies and all--and I stole it. That she didn't go for this was a shock. We had to lure her into a carrier, and she. Was. Not. Pleased. How dare we try to contain her?!
(She always looks at you like she's got a knife in her purse. But she's fine. That's just her face. We're hoping she warms up.)
We have no idea when she had them, but their eyes were all still closed until yesterday, which means 8-12 days old, max. Five is a lot of babies for a young lady. We're taking turns refilling her food bowl, arranging her little sock puppets so they all get to eat, and being hissed at. She tolerates Dez, but she does not like me. I am not the Food Person, so I am not welcome. (Even when I bring food. And snacks.)
We know who the father is--a local himbo, Marma--and he will be paying for his crimes with a round of TNR. We meant to catch him ages ago, but things just kept coming up. Now that this has come up, his time has come. Happy Father's Day, Marma. Your bill is due.
Dez and I both work full-time, and care for a number of old and sick animals as it is. One of our kids just had major surgery, too, so taking these guys to the vet is going to be rough. We're not to the point of dropping a Go Fund Me, but I can't promise that won't happen later. We're going to have to figure out what to do with them, too.
But, for now, we're happy to keep them warm and safe while they work on figuring out how limbs work. The light one (Biscuit the Loud) just learned he can slap his siblings to steal their spots. When those eyes are all open, it's going to be a real party...
If it's quiet for a bit longer, you know why. We hope you'll forgive us. Because she certainly won't.
