I would imagine. Pleasing your advisors will probably take some pressure off you, though in the end-you are the King. 

 I certainly plan to attend Your Grace. Only….do you think it is meant to be attended with company? Christopher mentioned possibly taking a lady. I never received a formal invitation-so I hardly know.

He smiled and considered the words of the King for but a moment before nodding. “Of course not. Everyone desires and deserves some free time to spend in their own company, you are of course no different.” he said smiling politely. He considered Xavier’s suggestion for but a moment before pulling off his roes so he was in nothing but his under garments, pulling his boots of and depositing them on the ice float. For a moment the bare soles of his feet screamed in protest as they touched the top of the ice but then he jumped and sailed through the air, unable to stop himself showing off he may have pushed himself further through the air with a little air craft, but then again if you couldn’t brag as the Archmage then when could you.

He somersaulted once before pulling himself into a neat dive and sliding gently into warm embrace of the ocean. He smiled to himself as the salt water gently stung his eyes and he allowed himself a moment beneath the ocean before bending the water and pushing himself to the surface. “You’re right your majesty.” he said, forcing himself to remember the honorific. “It is more than welcoming.” he said pushing back his long grey hair from his eyes.

A wide grin split Xavier's face when the other man moved to pull off his robes; he did love to see people enjoying the sea. More than that, he was hardly in the right sort of mood to behave properly as a king, much less His Majesty, the King of Corstorphine. That title followed him everywhere he went, and he was hardly in the mood for reverence. It was a pleasant change to be in the presence of someone who viewed him as less and more than His Majesty, who appreciated his sharp tongue and found him entertaining rather than harsh. 

A laugh pulled from Xavier's throat at the Archmage's display of acrobatics, hands breaking the water's surface for him to clap twice as the older man spoke. "It always is," he agreed jovially, letting the waves carry his body. "Quite a stunning display of flexibility, Archmage. You have aged quite gracefully." He chuckled, leisurely kicks of the water allowing the water to drag him towards the other man. "So, what inspired the infernado? I'm certain that His Holiness of the Shining Assarian Empire would be bombarding you with letters begging your presence if he knew of it."

If I may be so blunt, m’Lord, not attending may make you seem to be an uncaring ruler, especially since it is Omnium –– the two kingdoms aren’t exactly on the best of terms yet, even if we say the war is behind us.

No, I suppose we're not, and I doubt we ever will be. It isn't that I care not for our people, you know that, it's just that I could honestly not care any less about Faye Malaise or her long-lost sister. 

In an case, can't we both agree that letting me loose in a ballroom full of Omnian gentry-- after two weeks in a carriage, what's more-- would be a terrible mistake? What if my tongue slips and I insult someone's mother?

If I may say so Your Grace, I think attending will be a very good gesture for the Corstorphine people. For tensions to dissipate perhaps it is a wise decision…?

I shall consider myself fortunate. No matter I suppose there’s little that can be done about them.

Quite so, never know what might happen in my absence though I’m always wary when travelling away from what I’d consider my one true home.. The lack of salt water in Omnium is… Rather a daunting prospect to say the least. But should my best men be in charge I suppose I don’t have anything to truly be concerned of.

I would take that offer but I would think most would considered it as bad form if I did not attend what with my status, and as the King I suppose it’s a necessity to uphold this alliance as it’s dubbed no?

The lack of salt water; the mountains; the biting cold; the buttoned-up, corseted, powdered, ever-so-proper lords and ladies... I doubt that anything there will be stimulating enough to distract you from worrying over your ship. At least she won't have to witness any of that. 

By Aeolus, Faulkner. Did I ask you to be level-headed about this? Kindly cease with the reasonable advice and agree that I should avoid that place at all costs.

But no, no... I know that you are correct. The council has been concerned about the growing tensions between us. Henry may've killed my father-- and it isn't speaking ill of the dead if we recognize the fact that he was an insufferable git-- but there is something about that woman that puts my teeth on edge. I can hardly stand to be hundreds of miles from her, much less in the same room.

It just seems that, after fifteen years — as you so helpfully reminded me, nephew — expectations may be… high? Mine. Hers. Mostly hers. She’s a lovely woman, and since I made her wait so long, the least I can do is court her properly.

I have been bringing her bouquets, you see. Primarily of the floral variety, but one of driftwood and one of fruit, so far. Do you have any further suggestions? And no, I have not come to her as a coyote with any prey… though I assume I can remove it from the list of likely bouquet options.

I figured that the reminder would be welcome. After all, you two've been obviously smitten all these years-- why else would any sane woman tolerate a Rey? And she never married in all that time, now, did she?

In any case, you worry much too much. If she has known you all of these years-- and I would wager that she knows you better than just about anyone else-- and she still desires you, that much shows you have little to fret about. Perhaps just focus on causing as little damage to your estates as possible-- and convincing me to build that bridge.

Claude examined the monarch with a critical eye. Smiling to himself he chuckled and shook his head. He had always liked the ruler of Corstophine. Not like other rulers of his time, he was nearly unique in his character. And the way he ruled, fair, just but with a flair that you rarely saw in other monarchs. Few understood what it would be like to be one of the few people in the world who could shape history. Claude was one of them, Xavier another and he had to admit that he as of yet he had been impressed.

He wasn’t sure which country or nation he belonged to, having no memories further than that day he woke up in the shattered tower, yet he sometimes caught himself hoping to be Corstophinian. No wonder the people of the nation were proud of themselves with a ruler like Xavier. “Ah.” he acknowledged. “That was my mistake then. I should’ve known that you’d be anything other than regular, however I don’t think your retainers would be all to impressed with your little adventure.” he said smiling before holding out a hand for the king. “Need a hand your majesty?” he asked.

"Ah the Infernado, impressive for now but I believe it can be added to." he said frowning at his own creation, no matter the spell or craft he rarely found himself happy with it until it was ready. The infernado still had work to be done for it. "I’m glad you liked it." he said smiling. Knowing that he was likely the only sorcerer powerful enough to create one.

"Between the two of us-- my retainers don't quite need to know everything I do in my free time, do they?" Xavier flashed the Archmage a grin to accompany the words, running his arms through the sun-warmed water to keep afloat. The waves were powerful, yes, but calm with the day's lack of strong wings; and even in the worst of times, no matter how tempestuous, the sea had always welcomed him. He rode the waves easily, managing to keep the conversation going comfortably.

"I would join you, yes, but I fear that block of ice may be less than forgiving to my bare feet-- you should give the water a try instead. I always forget how welcoming it is, but nowhere I have traveled is the sea so loving as here in our sunny lands." He held a hand out in a mirror of the other man's motion, flashing another winning smile.

However, in Omnium, colouring such as yours typically denotes peasantry… and it wouldn’t do to have the rulers of our country mistaken for common workers, as I’m certain you would agree.

I have been told as much-- and by your ruler, in fact. Lovely woman. It's a shame that the coloring of most Omnian nobility reminds those of us to the west so much of our ill and infirm. 

Why yes, I did. I am as of yet unsure as to whether or not I will be able to attend-- so much to do, so very little time. Especially considering all of the attention we must give all the fleeing souls from the East whom Omnium is refusing to house.

Not particularly, it’s as if they know my hatred of things not being in order and attempted to spite me.

Mm, wary of leaving your true love to her own devices? Worry not, we'll have some of your must trusted men guarding her. Not that you necessarily have to go-- I am still debating, myself, whether or not to make an appearance.

If she had wanted him dead, he would have been so ten times over. "Have you eaten? The ladies down in the kitchens have surely missed you."

Now, why would you think that? Guinevere's a clever woman. If she agreed to let you court her-- after fifteen good years, may I remind you-- then she knows quite well what to expect. What could you possibly be doing wrong?

--Assuming you did not come to her as a coyote with dead animals as tokens of your affection? That might be less than... attractive.
