The cup of beer felt wrong wresting in her hand as if it didn’t quite belong there. Her heartbeat thudded in-time with the beat of the song playing, not unlike a metronome. For a few, brief moments, she actually felt a small flicker of happiness; but it was gone as soon as it had appeared, whisked away by the ever-growing rowdy crowd around her. As her eyes flickered around the club, trying to find the exit amidst the throng of people. It had been a mistake to think she was ready for such ruckus. But she had missed the commotion she had grown used to from her time in the army. After a few unsteady moments, her feet began to move, launching her towards the exit, and thus into the nearest person. “Shit, sorry,” Minerva eked out, an uncomfortable chill rushing through her shirt from her spilled beer. @edtstarter·
It was far from Xavier’s favourite place in town -- he hated most of the bars and clubs here, actually. That day his opinion wasn’t changed, he simply had to suck it up and go there nonetheless as he had a really important interview with one of his sources. They told him it was safer and more ‘private’ here, and Xavier knew it was bullshit -- how could it be more private here, in this utterly berserk place?
He was here anyway, and, despite his resentment, talking to a man he had only seen once before. The conversation was quick --- Xavier was a professional and he knew what questions to ask to get the information he needed as quickly as possible. And so, after fifteen minutes, he finished drinking a can of lemonade and was completely ready to leave. No matter how much he loved his job, situations like this -- even though for some people they would seem like not that big of a deal -- were making him question his life choices.
However, as he finally reached the exit, Xavier felt someone bumping into him. Hard. And then, only then, he felt cold liquid running down his arm and onto his phone. “Fuck,” he cursed under his breath, shook his palm that was holding the phone and finally looked at the culprit. Instantly, he felt a slight rush of guilt -- the girl’s shirt was completely wet and she didn’t seem well. “Fuck, are you okay? Here, it’s not much, but it should help at least a little,” he always had his father’s handkerchief in a pocket for good luck. He had never used it, or at least he hadn’t used it before he handed it for Minerva. “Are you feeling okay? Do you need any help?”
