Especially for 1944 Arsenic and Old Lace is INSANE. Its feral. Two kind old maids are serial killers with a higher body count than Norman Bates, Cary Grant is on the edge of insanity, Peter Lorre is there, it has a sub plot concerning a man who thinks he's Theodore Roosevelt and becomes catatonic if he tries being someone else, they couldn't get Boris Karloff to reprise his role in the play so they made a guy up to look like Boris Karloff and shot all his scenes like a horror movie, it opens with a fist fight at a Dodgers game and it has nothing to do with the plot. 10/10 masterpiece.

king shit !!!
ngl I keep forgetting that Hobby Lobby is a real store that people go to. That people actually think of it as a craft store and not as a crazy Christian mass artifact smuggler. I google "Hobby Lobby" and get a page full of results that make me go "wtf is this craft supplies and operating hours shit, I thought we all knew this place for smuggling looted cuneiform tablets out of Iraq"
#sorry what??? #I knew them as the store with the Christian right wing owners that refused to pay for employee birth control as part of health insurance #what is this about cuneiform tablet looting
They are also that! And it comes from the same place.
Since 2009, the billionaire owners of Hobby Lobby started taking advantage of the wars in Iraq to buy stolen and looted cuneiform tablets and clay artifacts from ancient Mesopotamia. A lot of them were suspected to have been stolen from the National Museum of Iraq in Baghdad in the chaos of the US invasion in 2003. The Hobby Lobby owners used HL profits to smuggle these artifacts into the US (taking them out of Iraq is illegal so they listed them as tile samples from Turkey and Israel, more friendly nations to the US). Eventually the customs officials seized them, and the US Department of Justice filed a lawsuit in 2017 when the news really broke about just how many ancient Middle Eastern artifacts were smuggled into the country. They were doing this to stock their "Museum of the Bible" that purports to prove the literal truth of the Bible... using stolen Mesopotamian cuneiform tablets, somehow. Idk.
They also had sixteen Dead Sea Scrolls that turned out to be forgeries but that's only tangentially related.
Hobby Lobby and its owners were fined and ordered to return, again, thousands of artifacts back to Iraq. For years they KEPT finding more artifacts of Hobby Lobby's that turned out to be stolen, looted, and smuggled. It's one of the biggest artifact smuggling scandals in recent history. And it separated artifacts from their context and permanently damaged the ability to learn new things from them, even though archaeologists subsequently have been trying.
The court case was called "United States v. Approximately Four Hundred and Fifty Cuneiform Tablets."

do not let up the pressure

INCREASE the pressure. Do not let these people sleep. Our voices need to resound in the minds of every corporate executive in every payment processing service.
I made sure to highlight SERVICE because what they do is a service
Call them. Email them. If you are a shareholder, attend their meetings and speak up. Do not accept half measures. Either they accept business from sex workers and porn sites and artists and authors and people of color and poor people around the globe, or they watch their business crumble.
Keep the pressure on. Keep pressing harder
fun behaviors to give dragons that aren't feline/canine based
cause as much as i love dragons purring and roaring i wish there was just more variety in how they would act
clacking their teeth together to show contentedness/happiness (budgies)
using tails as a defensive weapon in a whip like fashion (iguana)
twitching to express that they're not a threat to members of their species (hognose snake)
feeling calm when eyes are hooded/covered (birds of prey)
head bobbing as a threat display (anoles/bearded dragons)
flattening neck or sides to appear bigger (snakes/lizards)
mantling over food to protect it from hatchmates (birds of prey)
wiggling neck as a courting maneuver (budgies)
audibly grinding teeth as a warning (macaques)
maintained eye contact as a challenge (gorillas)
pounding wings against sides as a threat (gorillas)
slapping other dragons with their claws when their personal bubble is invaded (seals)
hoards used as a site to impress mates (birds of paradise)
snorting when undergoing heightened stress (horses)
making repeated loud noises with surroundings to establish territory (woodpeckers)
loud constant arguments with other dragons when roosting (bats)
building lairs that cause a domino effect of change in the land around them (beavers)
slapping their tails against the ground/water as a warning (beavers)
wiggling tail tip to attract prey (various animals)
wiggling tail tip as a warning (snakes)
plucking or scraping off scales as a sign of stress (parrots)
raising spines/frills as a response to danger and carrying on with their usual business as they believe they're protected (lionfish)
and im not saying canine and feline behaviors are wrong or bad to give a dragon (people wouldn't write dragons with those behaviors if they weren't fun in the first place!) but i feel for creatures that are mythological giant winged lizards that you can do more and get experimental with it. often the more unfamiliar behavior the more dragony the dragon feels
This looks like a fucking parody post, or an edgy edit, but it’s 100% official real Flintstones.
Clarification: I don’t hate this book, I love it, it’s amazing. It’s just that taking a step back and looking it out of context is still really funny. Especially the line “We participated in a genocide, Barney.”
ok but imagine them in their cartoon forms saying this dialogue i’m
can we have some context to this, perhaps?
Bedrock is having a mayoral election. One of the candidates is a violent war mongering asshole that riles people up against the lizard people. This reminds Fred and Barney of their time in the army.
Back then the father of said violent candidate was riling people up against the “tree people”. Fred, Barney, and other soldiers fought what they believed to be a defensive measure against the tree people. Turns out, it was actually an invasion, in order to kill off the tree people and take over their forest to build Bedrock.
That’s what Fred means when he says he and Barney participated in a genocide. They literally did.
(Extra fun fact, Barney adopted a tree person baby after the war, and his son Bamm-Bamm is the last tree person.)
just fucking read it

@alagaisia's tags are too true to leave out
The mayor of Butler, Ohio (population 941) ‘accidentally’ struck a wanted pedophilic rapist with his car as the man attempted to evade the police. Right in front of the rapist’s grandma too. Based on previous news coverage of the rapist in question, he seems to be the local menace. Truly an entertaining read and a breath of fresh air in comparison to the rest of the current news cycle.
here is the news report, with footage of the incident. tbh they condensed facts to make it less ridiculous so I would recommended reading some articles too. Mayor Dingus allegedly exited the vehicle and said “I think I hit something?”
...
His name is Mayor Dingus? In real life?
Yes. Mayor Wesley Dingus. Sitcom mayor name if there ever was one.
One big thing giving me hope right now is how many people are switching from major brands. It’s damn near impossible to escape the evil oligarchy. It’s so much work! We’re all exhausted and way over capacity so it takes a lot to make people seek out inconvenient alternatives to Amazon, Spotify, Etsy, Target, Harry Potter, etc.
This year however, people have finally Had It. Every day I hear more people switching up their habits and suggesting alternatives. It’s galvanizing to see industry titans take huge hits to their profits.
I’m living for this momentum.
Reblog with companies you’re actually excited about!
I really love Alibris as an alternative to Amazon.
