Does Drinking Collagen Do Anything?
As you reach your mid-twenties collagen production begins to decrease and continues to decline for the rest of our lives. In case you didn’t know, collagen helps give skin its strength and elasticity (among many other roles in your body), so in theory, getting that lost collagen back would make your skin look smoother, softer and tighter.
*I was extremely skeptical of this as how could something you eat and digest … with your stomach breaking down everything you ingest as it does … really help your skin?* But I went deep into the interwebs and found this proper scientific study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, which claims that yes indeed, “oral supplementation with collagen peptides is efficacious to improve hallmarks of skin aging.” OK! #Giddyup.
The rest of this assumes you aren’t vegan … because the collagen comes from animals (derived from marine animals is considered the most easily absorbed).
We tried Hello Beautiful-Collagen & Multivitamin Powder, and it tasted good and contained a multi-vitamin …
Also available in Hello Beautiful-Collagen & Multivitamin Powder (Wild Berry Flavor) as above, this stuff contains Jasmine Green Tea extract for energy, a host of vitamins for immune protection, Biotin (which is also great for hair and nails), and if you put it in water … then it contains water, which ….. makes you drink more water! Which alone is a struggle for me.
For us, really seems like a no-brainer and a fairly inexpensive (and overall healthy) way to try the collagen trend … consider switching things up next time you run out of vitamins.

Turn Your Used Diptyque Into Storage Space
Because old candle jars make great holders for makeup brushes. And I've been doing this since forever.
Step 1: Freeze out the wax. It may seem a little ironic, but stick your unlit, room-temperature candle in the freezer, and leave it overnight. All that wax will solidify and harden so firmly and thoroughly, you can scoop/jab it out with a knife and it won’t flake and crumble. Usually, that gets it most of it.
If there’s still residual wax in the jar, try Step 2: Put the jar in the sink and pour boiling water into it until it overflows. Leave for a few hours. When you come back, the rest of the wax will have floated and solidified at the top. Pop out, and you’ve got a beautifully clean jar, ready for a new life. Wax off!

Sex with an ex can be depressing. If it’s good… you don’t have it anymore. If it’s bad… you just had sex with an ex.

Prima really is the queen of this nail shit.
1. push yourself to get up before the rest of the world - start with 7am, then 6am, then 5:30am. go to the nearest hill with a big coat and a scarf and watch the sun rise.
2. push yourself to fall asleep earlier - start with 11pm, then 10pm, then 9pm. wake up in the morning feeling re-energized and comfortable.
3. get into the habit of cooking yourself a beautiful breakfast. fry tomatoes and mushrooms in real butter and garlic, fry an egg, slice up a fresh avocado and squirt way too much lemon on it. sit and eat it and do nothing else.
4. stretch. start by reaching for the sky as hard as you can, then trying to touch your toes. roll your head. stretch your fingers. stretch everything.
5. buy a 1L water bottle. start with pushing yourself to drink the whole thing in a day, then try drinking it twice.
6. buy a beautiful diary and a beautiful black pen. write down everything you do, including dinner dates, appointments, assignments, coffees, what you need to do that day. no detail is too small.
7. strip your bed of your sheets and empty your underwear draw into the washing machine. put a massive scoop of scented fabric softener in there and wash. make your bed in full.
8. organise your room. fold all your clothes (and bag what you don’t want), clean your mirror, your laptop, vacuum the floor. light a beautiful candle.
9. have a luxurious shower with your favourite music playing. wash your hair, scrub your body, brush your teeth. lather your whole body in moisturiser, get familiar with the part between your toes, your inner thighs, the back of your neck.
10. push yourself to go for a walk. take your headphones, go to the beach and walk. smile at strangers walking the other way and be surprised how many smile back. bring your dog and observe the dog’s behaviour. realise you can learn from your dog.
11. message old friends with personal jokes. reminisce. suggest a catch up soon, even if you don’t follow through. push yourself to follow through.
12. think long and hard about what interests you. crime? sex? boarding school? long-forgotten romance etiquette? find a book about it and read it. there is a book about literally everything.
13. become the person you would ideally fall in love with. let cars merge into your lane when driving. pay double for parking tickets and leave a second one in the machine. stick your tongue out at babies. compliment people on their cute clothes.
14. challenge yourself to not ridicule anyone for a whole day. then two. then a week. walk with a straight posture. look people in the eye. ask people about their story. talk to acquaintances so they become friends.
15. lie in the sunshine. daydream about the life you would lead if failure wasn’t a thing. open your eyes. take small steps to make it happen for you.”

Oscar de la Renta
I am so thirsty for the marvelous that only the marvelous has power over me. Anything I can not transform into something marvelous, I let go. Reality doesn’t impress me. I only believe in intoxication, in ecstasy, and when ordinary life shackles me, I escape, one way or another. No more walls.

Feeling confident - or pretending that you feel confident - is necessary to reach for opportunities. It's a cliche, but opportunities are rarely offered' they're seized...Given how fast the world moves today, grabbing opportunities is more important than ever.
Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg
I was introduced to this book at the perfect time. So many females aren't aware of the power that they can aspire to grasp in their careers. More women need to realize that we can't continue to allow the men to hold primary statuses and the highest positions. We must strive to reach for the same things they [men] have been taught to reach for. Its not that dangerous to break from societal norms while breaking into "the boys clubs". You can still be a woman, work to become powerful, be talented to sustain power and happiness, be well liked by other men and women, be loved and admired, all whilst still holding on to what essentially makes you a woman.
6 rules for writing from George Orwell
In one of his most famous essays, “Politics and the English Language,” Orwell writes that “the following rules will cover most cases”:
1. Never use a metaphor, simile or other figure of speech which are used to seeing in print.
2. Never use a long word where a short one will do.
3. If it is possible to cut a word out, always cut it out.
4. Never use the passive where you can use the active.
5. Never use a foreign phrase, a scientific word or a jargon word if you can think of an everyday English equivalent. (I’m charmed by his example: use “snapdragon,” not “antirrhinum.” Snapdragon is so much nicer.)
6. Break any of these rules sooner than say anything outright barbarous.
LearnVest empowers everyone to take control of their personal finances. We provide expert advice and resources, and financial plans that fit your budget.
As young women we should be smarter with finances. Even though I have a couple more years to be "stupid with money" I don't want to give myself the leeway. Starting 2014 with sites like Learnvest. They're great in breaking down the monotony of heavy finance terms and simplifying budget planning. Soon I'm building to have my own instead of relying on some guy in a cape to save me.
