When you first read Murderbot you are like, "oh, a robot is obsessed with a TV show. Cute." But when you read further you understand that no. It is not just "obsessed". It is a person, because of this show. It literally taught it how to feel empathy. Sanctuary Moon is it's picture book, it's first fairytale. The show's characters are maybe as close to parents that Murderbot had ever had. For someone who didn't have a place it called home or a family that would be it's home wherever it went (well, until recently), Sanctuary moon would be the only thing that provided a sense of stability of belonging. The quality of it is irrelevant, because it's not just a show. It's a birthplace.
