A Tale From Monaco, and Xenophever’s Future
Hello Earthlings ! We're back from Monaco !
After a day of rehearsal for our presentation, we all embarked into Flo's personal red car, found a radio that broadcast some really convenient eighties tunes and flew away in the night between tall buildings, palm trees and the Mediterranean sea.
We arrived late, desperately sought for somewhere to park, had some survival horror-ish encounters with people walking their dogs around, and met Monaco's Dreaded Stairs. Also found a suspicious looking door on the parking's way out...
Going to Monaco was first and foremost a very nice opportunity for a trip with Maxim and Valentine, the two original members of Xenocorp that left the team to do their own experiments. The entire Xenocorp team was reunited for that last occasion, and we spend some time visiting both the MAGIC convention center, the Japanese gardens around, and an arcade center before the actual presentations and contest.
There was several artistic organization blurs, but in the end all of the 5 groups could present their concepts to each other. Skybolt Zack was the first one -a fast-paced platformer/rhythm game with a shiny and professional finish that captured the heart of the youngest players in the public. Then came Crazy DreamZ : Magicats Edition and its economical model based on user content and a will to learn young players how to code. Unmaze followed -an amazing mobile narrative experience focused on light/darkness detection in the player's environment, two young boys lost in a maze, and how guiding one of them will push the other one to get lost inside himself.
We had the privilege of presenting Xenophever in front of Jordan Mechner, game designer of the first Prince of Persia, Philippe Moreau, game director of Vampyr, and Maxence Devoghelaere, winner from the MAGIC Game Contest in 2016 with Epic Loon.
The presentation encountered some problems, mostly due to miscommunication. While we're a little disappointed at how it played out, we still really enjoyed talking about Xenophever to a reactive public, and meeting all the other contestants.
At last, Ymenok Reborn was presented -a FPS about a species of sci-fi monkeys victims of a genocide, seeking revenge for their lost people.
In the end the winner was Crazy DreamZ : Magicats Edition ! We cheered, and then split ways for a last meal in Monaco with the team of Unmaze and Douglas Alves, specialist in videogame history.
The next day we gave back our Airbnb keys to our adorable host, and left Monaco for good.
(it was very rainy and we were very tired)
The experience was very interesting, and we met great minds along the way.
Now, we need to talk about Xenophever's future.
First off, the decision was basically taken before knowing what the results would be with Monaco, and we knew that there was very little chances for an outcome with the MAGIC that would allow us to reconsider it.
Here's the thing ; independent game development is very demanding financially, and there are few ways to make it happen without sacrificing essential parts of the game -if you're lucky enough to be offered an opportunity to do so. During six months we pushed the game as far as we could -we got pre-incubated in a startup center, we met an editor, many professionals- but right now we don't have any money left. So we need to put Xenophever in cryostase, and wait for better days.
We're going to split, do our own things, find a sense of stability. Then, maybe, we would be able to come back to Xhawei.
During the next weeks we will post some of the things you never got to see. The blog will slowly, but certainly, go to sleep.
Thanks to all of you for following us, and we hope we could find you around if we happen to reach better shores, new uncharted worlds and a second chance.
Xenophever and its stories will remain into our hearts whatever happens.
In any case, we hope we'll meet on Xhawei someday.
Xenocorp, out.
A fresh and wild Wednesday Post appears!! So, for starters, sorry; last week’s post got lost in translation while we where preparing for the MAGIC. I’ve been chastised for it, and everything’s back to normal. We are fiery! The preparations are coming to an end, and our excitement rises….
This Friday, we go to Monaco, in Florian’s car for 4 hours to a lovely airbn’b, where we’ll spend the night.
After that… We show off the game at 15h30 in the Grimaldi Forum of Monaco, and then… We’ll see.
There. That’s the weekend’s program. We’ll livetweet this day and the day before, so if you’re interested in our adventure, come check it out!
To go with this post, here’s an artwork by Raquel and a small playlist Xenophever-themed! https://soundcloud.com/nisce-1/sets/funky Thank you for tuning in for our Wednesday report, remember to reblog, retweet, share depending on your social media (Links down below)

Good saturday everyone ! Today, we approach the topic of theikus, and the strange grimness that come with their origin... Xenocorp, out.
Da big Wednesday post
Hello everyone! Louis here, and it’s the Wednesday post! (yaaaaay?) So, nothing too fancy today, because we’re knee deep in the preparation for the MAGIC contest presentation. We are VERY excited. Because, if we win this contest, we’ll have the money we need to produce the game. And that’s great! And with that we’ll get to meet a lot of people from the industry, including Jordan Mechner, the Game Designer on the first Prince of Persia! On a less cheerful note, we don’t think we’d be able to work on the game at 100% if we don’t win that contest. So the development of Xenophever might be slowed down for a while. So, trust us, we’re going to do everything we can, and turn Monaco (more!) glittery while we’re there! Wish us luck! And if you’re at the MAGIC, hit us up, we’ll be happy to chat with you for a while! Coming with this, a quick sketch by Florian, which accurately represents our current mood. Saturday lore time ! Time to encounter the mighty chykaes, and everything that comes with them. Queens, hallucinogens... and pet frogs.
Wednesday update!
Hello everyone, it’s Wednesday again! And it’s Louis, again! This will be a quick post today, but I just wanted to do a shoutout to our former colleagues, those that helped us work on the Xenophever prototype for school. They were two of them, and I can’t imagine what Xenophever would look like without them. They didn’t follow us, because they had other projects, but we thank them for everything they did. So here they are. Valentine and Maxim!
Valentine was our lead artist and character designer. She’s the one responsible for the look of the prototype and of our aliens! Maxim was our environment and interface artist. consequently, he is the father of Dwayjonzon, the… thing in our ingame bathroom.
Unless i’m misinformed, both of them are currently looking for work, so here’s a link to their artstation and linkedin

Maxim: https://tortosambrosini.artstation.com/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/maxim-tortos-ambrosini-96a187117/
Working with them was a blast, and we wish them all the best for their future endeavor! Thank you for tuning in for our Wednesday report, remember to reblog, retweet, share depending on your social media (Links down below)

And now, for a Friday lore!
Yeah, we’ve decided to try and move the lore posts on Friday, we’ll see how it goes.
GUYS. Raquel here. We have some great, great news. Xenophever has been officially selected as one of the five finalists of the MAGIC Game Contest of Monaco, and we are... at loss for words. The team is totally not bouncing around squeaking right now. SO be sure we’ll be there the 24th february! We’ll document everything. This is going to be quite something. Thank you so much for your support, it means a lot to us, and well. Xenocorp, out.
New Saturday Lore update, this time about humans !
The second Wednesday post! (update? thingy? Dunno)
Hey everyone it’s Wednesday! And it’s the second instalment of our weekly update with Louis! … I’ll find a real name for it. Soon. So, more seriously, today I want to talk about our values. What we want Xenocorp to represent, and what we want our games to convey. First of all, we all are firm believer that game mechanics must serve the story. That means adapting them to the context of the game to give them more meaning. You interact with a world, and it’s logical that you do so in a way adapted to it. We take a lot of inspiration from real life when designing games, for example, we want the player to be as stressed and overwhelmed as a new waiter when they launch the game for the first time, but feel a true sense of progress once they find their marks. Secondly, we want to create a strong universe, with a recognizable art style. Florian is taking care of it, and he is heavily inspired by 70’s french sci fi, notably Moebius and the Métal hurlant magazine. French sci-fi also conveys values of exploration, curiosity, sexuality and tolerance that we love. And last, but not least: We want our game to feature characters comings from all horizons. Class, gender, sexuality, romantic orientation, religion, culture, mental & physical condition. We think that a story is best told from several point of views, so that the player can get the full picture. Of course with those subjects, there will be political bias but we will try to write every character from their perspective, and not ours. And we allow ourselves to picture any kind of situation if it serves the narrative, so our games might contain explicit content. What we want is to be able to talk and show a whole lot of different social situations, and build a coherent and beautiful universe from it. Newsletter: https://tinyletter.com/Xenocorp And come back saturday to learn about how the humans live on Xhawei!
Stay marvelous, Louis.
So back in 2017, we presented our dear concept to the patient ears of the Business Innovation Center of Montpellier, and looked very serious as we did so. Thanks a lot to the team for having us !
Good saturday, Earthlings! Raquel speaking. Welcome to our first edition of our saturdays posts, that will focus on the world of Xenophever. To start off big, let me introduce you to Xhawei, the planet on which the game’s events will take place... Have a nice week end, and we’ll be back quite soon! Raquel (and Xenocorp as a whole), out.
The Wednesday show: origins
Hello everyone ! Louis here.
So, hey, that 's the first of a long series of article about Xenocorp, our adventures, our hope
and all of those things. Think of it as a tribune where we'll talk about the project, where we are, where we're going, what we did... But we'll also use this to talk about other things, out of the project. For example Raquel will talk here about space thingies, Florian will most asuredly do tutorials about Spine (nsfw), and I... Will write things about whatever I fancies the day I write it.
But today, for the first post of this serie, I'll talk about where we are now.
Turns out we need quite a bit of money to produce the game and eat at the same time.
We already knew that, but hoped to get started off thanks to public funds.
But as I researched, this option might not be the right one for us. Indeed, it asks for us to have some starting money before unlocking more funds. And we don't have any.
Also, working on the game without getting paid isn't possible, because we don't have any other revenues.
So... We think we'll try something else. Probably involving the players directly into the financial process, but we're not really sure how as of today.
But one thing is sure. If we're going to need you, you'll need to know what you're in for. So we'll give you a lot more things about the universe of Xenophever !
We hope you like the project and how it's shaping up to be, and if you do, like and reblog here, and follow us on our different social medias ! We need to reach the greatest number of people possible.

Have a good day, and stay tuned for Saturday, where we’ll introduce Xhawei, the planet where Xenophever takes place! Love Louis.
Changes in communication
Hello all ! Louis here, and I want to talk about our new communication plan. Starting next week, we will provide you with things to read regularly! That means two blog posts a week ! On Wednesday, you'll have a « Xenocorp » article, talking about us, what we want to do with the studio, or even just thoughts that we wanted to elaborate on about games & everything around them. On Saturday, we'll talk about the world around Xenophever. From the civilisations of Xhawei to specific characters we will present you the universe we want to create. And remember, we will happilly answer all your questions on any social network ! Have a good day. Louis Xenocorp.
Happy New Year !
We have many great things planned for 2018, and we can’t wait to tell you. Stay sharp, and have a wonderful year filled with projects and space glitter. Xenocorp, out.
