Uncanny X-Men #350

I got this comic in my teens, when I was only casually into X-Men and comics in general. This comic, and really this little bit of dialog was what really sold me on Gambit’s character, without having read anything about him previously.

To me this is most of what Remy is. Sure, I know everyone likes to play up his naughty side, or make him the jester of X-men, since he’s usually far more free-spirited than most on the surface. But damn does that dazzling smile hide a lot of pain and guilt. More over, Remy never once tries to say that he was guiltless, or just a victim and just following Sinister’s orders. To me Gambit has always been able to see both sides, he knows why people like Sinister and Creed and so many others do what they do. He understands that life, and what drives it.

 It would be super easy to just be a villain, (or to always be the double agent, never choosing a side and just thinking of himself, which has been done to death and makes me roll my eyes) but he willfully walks away from that life again and again because he believes in doing more. He wants to BE more.

So when people ask me why it is I am so in love with this character, this is one of the big reasons I give.

Sure I adore Gambit as the lovable thief who is prone to questionable choices, but give the man some damn credit.

Fanfic printing and publishing survey!!!!!

Fanficcers of the world, I need your help!!!

Are you a fic author, or do you know a fic author, who has their fic printed and published in book format??

If so, PLEASE can you fill out my survey???

It’s part of a small research study I’m doing into why we get our fic printed up all nice and pretty when reading fic on the internet is free and accessible to pretty much all and sundry.

The survey is pretty short and shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes, depending on how much you put into some of the answers.

As a neurodivergent person its fascinating and baffling to me that the base premises and assumptions behind police interrogation, and shit like micro expressions, basically any practice that claims to teach you how to detect lies, completely falls apart once neurodivergency enters the picture.

Lack of eye contact? completely normal if you’re on the spectrum. Same with exaggerated “put on” facial expressions (or lack of expression if you arent masking). Giving lots of unnecessary details? Autism and ADHD baby. Cant sit still? ADHD. Cant seem to remember extremely basic info, or conversely remembering “too much”? ADHD and Autism.

Like it’s honestly pretty horrifying, since these misunderstandings about how our brains work could literally be used as evidence of us committing a crime.

okay, but if you are neurodivergent, it’s especially important: do not talk to the cops. I don’t care if you want to help. I don’t care if it’s a misunderstanding. I don’t care if you could clear it up in a few sentences. Do. Not. Talk. To. The. Cops.

your two sentences: “Am I being detained?” if you aren’t, leave. if you are, “I’m invoking my right to a lawyer.” that’s it. you say nothing else.

I know it’s hard. but we’re at increased risk of being unfairly targeted and misunderstood. and nobody should be participating in police interrogations without legal representation present.
