Jon declared for Dany because she was worthy of it which Jon deduced by the power of long, careful and deep observation whereas Sansa needed MAGICAL HELP TO FIGURE OUT HER OWN DAMN SISTER so excuse everyone with their "Jon betrayed the North" and "made the decision without even consulting with Sansa" bullshit
Exactly. If Jon had consulted with Sansa, she would have “”””consulted”””” with Petyr Baelish. Who successfully turned her against Jon in Season 6, and literally no one at all brings that up.
“The past is gone for good. You can sit here mourning its departure or you can prepare for the future. You, my love, are the future of House Stark. Who should the North rally behind? A trueborn daughter of Ned and Catelyn Stark, born here at Winterfell? Or a motherless bastard born in the South?”
Your brother’s army. Half-brother.
And everybody should be able to agree that Littlefinger only truly looked out for Littlefinger’s interests. Not what is truly best for the North or its people. What some can’t grasp is that Sansa was not left behind as interim “Queen in the North.” No, she was Wardeness in his stead, and even then she cut short the training of the people Jon had started, without consulting him.
Without Bran, Sansa was going to gut their sister over doubts placed in her mind by, that’s right: Petyr Baelish. After all he’d put her through, she still took his word over anyone else’s. That’s partly why Jon was so ready to butcher him before he left.
Getting back to Jon: he doesn’t let Davos make his choices for him. When Dany broke away from allowing Tyrion to do the same and reached out for his advice instead, it started allowing him to see her in a better light. By the time she risked everything and lost one of her children just to save him, it’d been months’ worth of conversation and observation.
Jon knows Dany better than most, better than Tyrion does imo. And he only acts on what he believes to be right, no matter how impulsive it seems. Anyone who knew him would realize that, including Sansa. In a show where she wasn’t still trusting a man who sold her to a psychopath of a rapist, anyway.
I really do think the North will come around, especially with Dany having pledged her forces to help them even before Jon bent the knee. She’s put her own goals on hold to save the world. That makes her worthy. Jon saying what he did indicates to me that it’ll work itself out.
And when Dany and Sansa eventually end up getting along, I’ll be saying “I told you so.” To the haters who love to pit two women who’ve been through horrific abuse against each other.
Nobody has been “betrayed” here, except Jon. If Sansa had murdered Arya, um. That would’ve been it for her. Especially without proof.
