He felt bad for them, cooped up in their house, prisoners of a prophecy they’d never asked for. Poor Lily probably didn’t get enough company. It had to be hard, trapped like they were.
When he showed up and she brought him a warm butterbeer to stave off the cold, he smiled at her.
“Thanks, Lil… you didn’t have to. I appreciate it. You’re a real gem, you know?”
“It’s no trouble, really.” Lily spoke, her fingers curling around her own warm glass. She had very fond memories of their final year at school regarding warm butterbeer and Sirius. She could vividly recall that Christmas, the one she hadn’t gone home for. Her and James’ first Christmas together.
While her sister had been dreaming of sugar plums and waking the next morning to gifts galore, she, James, Sirius, Remus, Peter and Marlene had been sat beside the fire place in the common room sipping their butterbeer’s and waiting for the storm to come.
It was strange to her to recall this because at the time, things seemed grim and hopeless. If only she would’ve known then how worse things were going to get.
She flashed Sirius a look, adverting her gaze from the mug she held and speaking quietly in an almost cynical tone:
“Strange, isn’t it? How fast things can change.”
