So I’m not sure if anyone has brought this up but…

The relationship between Ed and Calico Jack is very much like that toxic friend you have that brings out the absolute worst in you but you can’t get away from them because there’s history. It’s not so much of the fact that you have loyalty you to them, but they either have shit on you or you two went through a rough patch together or you owe them something and they just hang it over your head, forever. And then you try to relive that time in your life every time you are with them but it’s not until you see what a true and loving relationship is like, that you would question it and probably would have never seen how badly they treat you in the first place.
