Totally no witch au that is placed in a universe inspired by ancient china, nope

...

Im lying, you all know im lying.

So in this au, witches are bound to their familiar, which is their source of magic. The witch does not get to choose what demon they get when they are binding themself to a familiar, but the demon will be one that fits their wants and/or needs. Unless the bond is forced.

If the bond is forced, then it is entirely random. The demon could be powerful, it could be weak, it could be one that goes the complete opposite way of what the witch wants and/or needs. And unfortunately, there is no trying again, there is no getting rid of it. Every witch gets an accessory that represents theirs and their familiars souls being bound together, and they literally cannot take the accessory off.

But, another thing, the familiar is not actually summoned yet during the binding. Summoning is an entirely different ritual that comes after the binding. Once again, the familiar is the source of the magic. Not having a summoned familiar makes a witches powers subdued, unable to be at their full potential until they have summoned their familiar. And the mc of this au doesnt summon theirs for years

mc is from a bloodline of witches, and their family forced them to get bound to a familiar (ruh roh), but they ran away afterwards, retreating to a small simple village.

But oh no, after several years of living there, there starts to be rumors of a witch in the village and a couple of witch hunters come to the village

Gee i wonder who the witch hunters are ;]
