BIOGRAPHY
Nick was the oldest son of Robert and Betty Wagner and the family grew up in the Old Lymemouth part of Bridgeport, Maine. His father worked at the marina as a fisherman and his mom was a stay at home mom. They never had much money, but there wasnât a moment of his childhood that Nick felt that he wasnât happy. He even ended up getting a newspaper route to help with money on mornings before he ended up going to school and then when he could, he got a job at the marina himself.
In high school, the man started playing football and fell in love with it. Around the same time, he fell in love with his future wife, Naomi. The two were inseparable and by the time they were seventeen, they had their first child, a daughter. With the help of his parents, both were able to finish school and then Nick got a job while also going to college and still playing football. He ended up being recruited to the New England Patriots and just as he was starting to train, he and Naomi had another child, Johnny. The two married not long after and started going on the road with the team. However, as the kids started to be more school age, they settled in their hometown and Nick was gone during his football years.Â
While things with his football career were going great, his home life was a little more stressful. He hated leaving his family and then he and Naomi were trying to have another kid, but couldnât. They started doing treatments and then found out that she couldnât have more kids. They were devastated, but they ended up starting to look into adoption. It took a few years, but they finally adopted another little girl and finally completed their family.
In 2000, he retired from playing football and finally settled with his family in Bridgeport. He ended up buying some land outside town and opened up a car dealership. Things were getting to be successful again for him, but Naomi found out that her illness was getting worse. They decided to hide it from the kids and he stood by her as she got treatment. The kids started graduating and going to do their own things and soon, they even got grandkids. Naomi wanted nothing more than to be there for her children and grandchildren and Nick tried to help her as much as he could with that.Â
Things started getting worse over the last few years and Naomi decided she was done with treatment. Nick tried to persuade her otherwise, but she just wanted to live happily and spend the rest of what time she could with her family. He understood and let her do so. They still didnât tell the kids, and then in October of 2021, she passed. He finally told the kids about everything and there was some arguing, and he understood. All he wanted to do was abide by his wifeâs wishes and he did so.
However, the man was grieving hard and turned to drinking to help him. He started getting worse and worse and started arguing with his son and disappointing his grandkids. He just missed Naomi so much and couldnât handle it. However, this changed when he saw the disappointment on his grandkids faces after missing something important to them and he decided to get sober. Heâs been sober for almost two months and focusing on making things up to his family.
