utena being so scared and lonely and suicidal as a kid and only finding the strength to keep living when she meets anthy and decides that helping her is more important than anything. and then she forgets, and she only has her warped memory of the prince to cling onto, the desire to become someone who doesn't need anybody to rely on, who is strong enough to take care of herself and the people close to her, someone who is no longer vulnerable to the sort of sudden tragedy that happened to her when she was small. but she never stopped being that lonely, frightened kid that she buried inside of herself, and when she meets akio all she really wants is for him to take care of her because he's the first adult who has ever been kind and understanding to her since her parents died. and she just wants to have a family again more than anything in the world......... :(
