Ben haven’t even realised who was in front of him at first, but when he did, he instantly relaxed again. A very gentle laugh escaped him at her words. “You could say that…” he answered simply, nodding his head. “I probably shouldn’t have picked up that call. It was a mistake.” He wasn’t going to go into details, but that’s what he was realising now. If he hadn’t answered, he would have saved himself a lot of pain.

Seeing his tense body relax made her smile, after what he had done for her she didn’t think he deserved to be going through anything that would make him feel stressed. Nodding hr head once he replied to her, she let out a small bit of laughter before speaking. “I’ve had one of those moments myself this week,” she shrugged, before wanting to change the subject. “How have you been since the storm, everything else going okay?”

Cal looked worried at the girl that seemed to be pretty pissed off about something, he always let people vent to him when they needed someone to listen to, but he wasn’t sure if he was going to ask her if something was wrong or not, he knew not everyone would react well to it, but he decided to do it. “Is there something wrong?” he asked, not wanting to assume anything.

Valentina looked up from her phone and turned towards him, her mouth opened to speak to him but no words came out in response to his question. A shake of her head, she dropped her gaze to the floor for the moment. “It’s just...a bunch of stupid things back home.”

                              “Bad connection?” Libby asked, sitting down opposite her friend with a sympathetic look on her face, already kind of knowing the abrupt end to the phone call, and the following outburst, probably wasn’t due to a bad connection at all. It wasn’t Libby’s business, but the least she could do was try to make sure everything was okay, right? 

Valentina kept her eyes on her phone for the moment before just shaking her head and looking up towards the other. She knew that Libby didn’t really think it was a bad connection, she was much smarter than that. “Yeah...back home the phone lines must be messing up or something.”

“I didn’t understand what you said, but how you said it, I’d be scared for whoever is on the other end.” Jake stated with a tiny chuckle. It was his attempt to cheer her up since it was clear that something was bothering her. “You okay?”

Valentina looked over towards him, phone moving down by her side as she let a small smile form onto her previously twisted features. “Well, that makes you a very smart man,” she stated quickly, before shaking her head. “Just some things going on back home is all, it’ll be alright.”

Valentina looked over towards the familiar blonde and shook her head a bit, sliding the phone into her back pocket. “Just a bit rough...nothing I can’t handle I guess.”

“Что значит, он болен?“ the blonde stated loudly into the phone, not caring who was around listening. It wasn’t like they could understand her anyways. With a hand running through her hair, she quickly dropped the phone from her ear and hung up on whomever was still talking to her. “Fuck,” she stated underneath her breath, trying to think about what she was going to do next.

“I wish I could meet the people who invented haunted houses. They are the real heroes, honest to god if I met them, I’d worship the ground they walk on.” Lux mused to the person sitting beside her. The brunette was hoping the month of September would fly by as Halloween was just around the corner. It was a holiday she looked forward to each year. 

“I actually know a guy back home who makes the haunted house at our annual Halloween fair,” she said, before shaking her head at the other. “Trust me, you wouldn’t want to worship anything that man walks on, his ego is big enough.”

Ben hung up the phone, the aggravation clear on his face, and had to resist the urge to hurl the device across the now pretty crowded coffee shop. The conversation hadn’t been a particularly calm one, but he was pretty sure this was about to become a regular part of his routine. Maybe it was time to try and involved lawyers. If he didn’t he might never get to see his daughter. He took a moment, breathing heavy, angry, although then he realised he might have been disturbing the peace. As he glanced up, he caught the eye of someone nearby. “Sorry if you heard all that…”

Valentina had finally had the stitches taken fro her leg, no longer needing the crutch she had to use due to the effects of the storm. The blonde had been enjoying the fresh air since she had been locked inside her house for the longest. She glanced over from where she was sitting for the moment when she caught a glimpse of a familiar face. She went to speak, though heard the aggravation in his voice with his current conversation so she waited. Hand moving to place a strand of hair out of her face, she moved the same hand to place underneath her chin to let her head rest upon it. Once he spoke, she shook her head. “No, no, it’s perfectly fine. Having a rough day?”

The surprise was really obvious on his face, she was not the first person that said he looked old enough to drink, though she was the first in a while, he doesn’t remember exactly when the last person said it, but it’s probably been years. The majority of the people said he looked less than twenty one. “You may be one of the few people that actually think that, the majority think very differently”  he let out a laugh. “But I don’t mind it honestly, thinking one is younger than their actual age, is not a insult, in my opinion”

“I honestly don’t know what they’re seeing,” she shook her head, looking over at him—Valentina tried to look a bit deeper into his features, trying to find where they might have thought he was much younger than he looked. He had a bit of  boy-ish look to him, but not one that would case her to think he was under twenty-one. “That’s true too, but , question,” she paused, turning now to fully turn to face him in her seat. “How old do I look?”

“Dude, I’m telling you, I’m not underage”  he sighed, the bartender didn’t want to believe him, he didn’t think that he looked that young, though some people have said he looked 19, others said he looked twenty one, not that he was offended, he didn’t see a bad thing about looking younger, differently from some people he thought it was actually a compliment. He pulled out his ID, and showed this ID, which showed the bartender that he was 26 years old. “See, I told you”  he watched as the bartender nodded his head and finally believed, before he started to make Cal’s drink. “Do I really look that young?”  

Valentina had finally ventured to leave her home, managing to not care as much about having to walk with one crutch and show she was in a weakened position. Where was one of the first places the girl was going? The bar, of course. The bartender knowing her by face, she had her white russian set down in front of her within minutes of arriving. As she took her first sip, she looked over to see the guy next to her being given a hard time by the same bartender. A small bit of a smile came over her as she continued to watch, entertained by his dismay. When he turned and addressed her though, she shook her head. “No, no, I think you look quite...well, you look old enough to drink.”

                            Archer knew it had been risky to bring up the subject of seasons, because with that often came the weather—- but as much as she didn’t need a reminder of the raging storm outside the station, she seemed better off not dwelling on her parents any longer. He didn’t know who they were or what they meant to her now, but he sensed the difficulty in the subject for her. “What’s your favorite color, and why?”

“What is it with all of these questions,” Valentina expressed, her hands moving from being round her to fly into the air. She knew he was trying to help, but answering all of the questions were starting to frustrate her a bit. She hadn’t had to think of most of these answers before this.

“Yeah, pretty much,” Gabriela replied as amusement laced her features. “Sprained my ankle and almost got electrocuted and I remember like… none of it,” she said non-chalantly, as if those things didn’t register for her.

Valentina looked at the other cautiously at first, as she heard her explain what kind of happened to her while she was in there. “You remember nothing?” Val questioned, wondering how it could be or if the alcohol had really done that much damage to her. “You sure about that?”

      “Thank God,” Julianna expressed as she mentally took a note to pray for Valentina’s well being after their conversation, “I wouldn’t know what to do without you if you weren’t…” Sadness covered her eyes at the topic of death, Val’s death especially. The blonde meant a great deal to her and if she ever lost her one day, she wouldn’t be the same. As Valentina explained what happened to her in the firehouse, she stared at her bandages in awe. “You… you got hit by the tree…” Her voice was almost a whisper, but loud enough for her best friend to comprehend. Valentina was hit by the tree that broke through the window the daycare owner covered later on. “I-I’m so sorry, V’.” She apologized, her free hand grazing lightly over the bandages. “I-I’m so glad you’re okay…”

Hearing the sadness in Julianna’s voice made the blonde grow more and more saddened herself. She hated being in this position, and she hated that she let her fear take over her during the storm. If her father had been here, he would have surely smacked her or told her how disappointed he was of her letting her guard down. As Jule’s hand grazed over her bandaged on her arm, her blue orbs drifted to the girl’s hand where she could really take in what her arm was looking like now. Before she could stop herself, she felt herself huff out some laughter at the end of the girl’s statement. “Yeah..you know I think God is trying to tell me my time is up J, you know...sometimes-sometimes I wish it had just taken me out..”

“I think someone got elbowed somewhere.” Theo shrugged. “It was dumb and I am ashamed that grown men acted like that.” He said and laughed. “Thanks. I gotta come up with a better story though, right?”

“Well I think it’s quite fitting,” she stated, more laughter coming from her before she poke again. “Most of you men are stupid and will try and prove someone’s superior over fighting. Makes sense to me,” she shrugged before nodding her head. “For sure..you need to say you got into a fight at a bar defending a woman’s honor or something.”

Vanessa expected the other to pick up that there was some sort of history between her and Aiden, so instead of acting surprised, she just nodded. “You could say that, yeah.” Well, she wasn’t actually lying, but she didn’t want to be that person that went into explicit detail about their relationship, especially since they’d been broken up for about ten years now. “So, no story? What’s this I hear about him being in a band?” She asked, changing the subject in what she hoped to be a casual manner, still messing around with sleeve absentmindedly.

When the girl confirmed her assumption, Valentina leaned back a bit in her chair and took another long sip from her coffee. Blue orbs looked back down to her hands messing around with the sleeve—that was her tell. “You loved him, didn’t you?” she asked casually, taking another sip of her drink as she looked her over. Before the other would answer, she’d nod her head. “And I take it that he definitely loved you, too.” Her fingers tapping against the cup, Valentina wondered what she would do next. Her old self could be nasty or malicious...but she wanted to be a better person if she could. “You still want to be with him?”

The invitation takes him by surprise. He’s had a fair share of people inviting him over and they all lead to one thing. Now that he’s thought about it, he’s never even been to Val’s place nor has he ever invited her over to his. The thought of it feels so… personal in a way. He didn’t mind back then but this is different. This is Valentina, the girl who he’s been going out with since he engaged her in a conversation about being scammed for a pair of shitty headphones. Most of the times when they’re together only consist of a series of make out’s and a few short personal stories here and there. They don’t have a definite label over what they have and what they’re doing. Aiden wouldn’t have cared if Eli didn’t get into his fucking mind and told him that Val has been much more serious about this than he is. Aiden genuinely cares about her (and he really wants to do more than just making out) so of course he couldn’t risk hurting her. “I have a better idea in mind.” He decides to suggest instead with a smile, his hand drawing up to slide it through her blonde hair. “There’s this place I go to whenever I feel like the world is… well, being shittier than usual. But you gotta promise me that you won’t tell anyone about it.”

Valentina knew full well they didn’t have a title, or a label on what they were doing. She didn’t really expect it so quickly, though she’d be lying if she said she didn’t want it to—that she didn’t want him to only be involved with her. For now, she was going to stick to thinking that it was true, he hadn’t given her a reason not to think that way anyways. Besides, they had spent time telling each other personal stories, things Valentina didn’t really like to share with most. That meant something to her, it meant a lot. The blonde had hoped her suggestion would work, an he’d come back to her place with no hesitation. She pictured movies, and food and just lounging the day away with one another. It seemed fitting, since they had only ever been to places where they were mostly standing or sitting. Instead of hearing the yes she hoped for, she heard a different answer. An answer that made her pull back some from him, her blue orbs falling over him and eyeing him curiously. Nodding her head, she bit down on her bottom lip. “Okay, I pinky promise,” raising one hand to show her pinky to him, she waited for him to latch his with hers and take her off to where he wanted to. At this point, it was like she’d follow him everywhere.
