Dera’s room was a tangle of color, clothes, and crystals. Her bed was a nest of blankets that all tangled around her, making getting out of bed a trial to say the least. For Amanda she would brave the morning though. It was eight am which felt impossibly early for Dera to be awake and alive; after all, she was a creature of the night and very early mornings. From the hours of six am to eleven am she was dead to the world. Her bare feet hit the floor, or more accurately the pile of clothes that had accumulated next to her bead, and she hauled herself up and started moving. First came her own needs, so on autopilot she made herself a cup of her custom tea blend before getting ready to cook.
In just her tank top and underwear Dera transformed herself into a chef, whisking waffle batter to the beat of her music. Her earbuds kept getting caught and tangled as she moved around the small kitchen, making a mess everywhere she went. After two hours of work cinnamon coffee cake, waffles, bacon, and a variety of cut up fruit that was shaped like a crown were created and arranged on the table. A hand painted banner hung from the ceiling, reading you’re the queen empress of my heart!!! Various fingerprint animals accompanied the multicolored words, making the entire thing a mess of color brought to life by paint and ink. All and all, Dera was proud of her work.
The night before had been a mess to say the least. Thea….God, Thea. Dera almost sighed out loud in disappointment at the memory of what she did. Dera loved Thea, but what she did was just stupid. Dera knew that Amanda was more than capable of winning without any cheating, and even if she didn’t it was just a pageant. Dera had no problem with breaking the rules, but there was a time and place. More than that Thea’s actions got Amanda caught in the crossfire, which was perhaps the only reason that Dera was upset at the incident. If it had just been Thea messing with the ballot box, that was whatever, but ruining Amanda’s chances without even asking her took it one step too far. Hence the breakfast. Dera had no idea how Amanda was feeling, but she could guess. Food was the ultimate cure for everything though. Now she just needed to wait for Amanda to get up after her long night.
She has always been a morning person. There’s something about the air when it’s early, the quietness, the feeling of fresh starts. Today doesn’t seem like one though. Amanda has made sure no one’s worried about her. She shook her head, smiled, and told everyone she asked that she was alright, that she just wanted to enter the contest because she needed some practice showing her talents to the world, but she’s most definitely not fine. There’s a sadness that comes with not being enough, and unfortunately she’s way too used to it by now. Popular, but not enough to be noticed. Pretty, but not enough to be Miss Mount Wells. She hadn’t been enough for Dorian in the past, and she was definitely not enough for Tristan now, not like Denna was, or every other person who actually did flirt with him.
So here she is, eyes wide open, because of course she’s been awake for a long time now. Dera is making all kinds of messes in the kitchen, and Amanda can’t for the love of her understand what is happening. Maybe there’s someone coming for a cleansing, or maybe it’s just a spirit that has followed her to the house. Please don’t let it be a spirit, she thinks. Finally she decides to get up, at least to see what the fuck is going on. She’s seen Poltergeist, she knows what those things do to the house, and honestly she likes the labyrinth too much to have it destroyed by a supernatural entity.
She sure as hell isn’t expecting what she sees when she goes out of her room, still wearing her red hearted and pink pijamas. The kitchen is a mess, of course, but she can’t even think about that when there’s a massive breakfast displayed in front of her... and a hand painted banner? She smiles, and feels a couple tears rolling down her cheeks as she runs to her friend and hugs her. “This is beautiful. Oh my God Dera you did this all for me? I’m fine.” A lie. “Really, you shouldn’t have. It’s just a silly beauty pageant anyway.” Another lie. She sits down at the table, picking up a little apple peace from the center of the fruit crown. “Come here, you’re not going to let me eat all alone, are you?”
