I’ve been watching the World Cup and Cape Verde has been my underdog team this year; I’ve had such a blast watching them and it’s why I really enjoy watching the World Cup.

Argentina might’ve won the match, but Cape Verde won in my heart ❤️

I finally had the chance to watch Sinners and oh my goodness what an incredible film!! It was so well made and the performances were stellar!! The music also stood out to me. I need to rewatch sometime soon.

My favorites were Miles Caton as Sammie and Jack O’Connell as Remmick. Sammie was the heart of the movie for me and Remmick was just so much fun to watch.

Michael B. Jordan also 100% deserved that Oscar. What a performance!!

how Obi-Wan and Maul are really two self-reflecting destinies that mirror each other in the most opposite but also eerily similar ways.

They meet each other in their Padawan and apprentice days: both young, powerful, and full of so much potential. Both are shaped by masters who define the paths they will take. Maul kills Qui-Gon. Obi-Wan loses his master, but gains the future he never expected: becoming a master himself.

And Maul loses everything.

He falls into a rage, into hatred, because in his mind Obi-Wan is the person who ripped his destiny away from him. But the tragedy is that Obi-Wan was never the one who truly took anything from him. It was Sidious. Sidious took Maul’s childhood, his identity, his ability to choose, and the future he could have had.

But Maul has nowhere else to place that grief.

During the Clone Wars, when Maul seeks Kenobi out again, I think his hatred is rooted in something much deeper than revenge. He believes Obi-Wan has everything he was denied. A home. A family. People who would mourn him. A place in the galaxy. A purpose beyond being a weapon.

And deep down, all Maul ever wanted was to be wanted.

He sees Obi-Wan as the embodiment of everything he lost.

So, he takes Satine’s life because he wants Obi-Wan to understand him. He wants him to feel that same unbearable loneliness and pain.

By the end of the Clone Wars, everything Obi-Wan built his life around is destroyed. Satine is gone. Anakin is gone. The Jedi Order is gone. The entire future he believed in collapses, and once again, it is because of Sidious. The same person who stole Maul’s destiny destroys Obi-Wan’s too.

And then, years later, when they meet again in Rebels, they are no longer the same people they were before.

Maul spent decades chasing Obi-Wan because he thought killing him would finally give him peace. And Obi-Wan, after everything, still looks at Maul with compassion. Because maybe, in the end, Obi-Wan was the one person who understood him.

Not because they were the same. But because they were both survivors of the same tragedy. Both victims of Sidious and his grand plans.

But the difference is that Obi-Wan is still standing. Not because he lost less. Not because he suffered less. But because he refused to let his pain become the only thing left of him. Maul let his grief consume him. He turned his suffering into hatred, into revenge, into a need to destroy the person he thought represented everything he had lost. It is not until he is on his deathbed that he realizes all of this.

Spot on OP!!! Maul and Obi-Wan are mirrors to each other; both suffered so much, had their worlds irreparably changed during their prime padawan days, and witnessed Sidious’ rise to power.

But where Obi-Wan was able to let go and find a new purpose, Maul lost himself to his hatred, anger, and grief. His mind was too entrenched in his suffering to see past it and he never found a fulfilling purpose.

I think the saddest thing about Maul is that he is so deep inside the abuse and trauma that Sidious has given him that he has no possible other path for him. He is always doomed to be alone, but what’s beautiful is that he doesn’t die alone, but dies in Kenobi’s arms with Kenobi grieving for him. Even if only for a moment, I think it’s a beautiful full circle end to Maul’s story, which is why I’m not upset at all that he dies like that in rebels. Kenobi gives him what he wanted all along, to be seen, and they share a last moment as two grief burdened victims 💔

That moment is my favorite part in all of Star Wars. Narrative and thematically, it is incredible, but it goes even deeper than that. Maul hurt him so much yet Obi-Wan still showed him incredible mercy. And Maul for one moment finds some semblance of peace. It’s so good 😭

It’s the fact that Maul even says that Luke will avenge THEM. It’s no longer about the revenge towards Kenobi. He died on his side. He died a believer.

Really wished the show and comics focused and explored Maul’s emotional nuance and his internal turmoil and character depth from his POV, instead of just making him a scary, manipulative Sith with a sad backstory.

(Also spoilers for the "Maul" comics so far, he's barely in them. Unlike Darth Vader, who gets massive, deeply personal POV runs, Maul is basically a cameo in his own new book. It’s mostly about Lawson and his story, with Maul just lurking in the background doing badass sith things and that's it. I don't hate Lawson and the other new characters, I'm just not invested in Lawson or any of the new characters in general. Maul deserves a genuine character study story like Vader did, not to be a guest star in his own title.)
