I like to think that Derek survived. I like to believe that his deteriorating brain killed the king before it did him, and with the king went a portion of his infinite knowledge. I like to think that now, Derek is exceptionally smart, far beyond any human, but his knowledge is not infinite. Not like it was. I like to think he can survive without the chronic pain now that he doesn't have all the information of the world in his head. I like to believe that he used his expanded knowledge to know Avery's phone number and Avery was thrilled to hear he was alright. I like to think the two would meet in person and finally be able to build a relationship without the king meddling with them.
