“Thank you.”
The gratitude came out in almost gasps. Despite her thirst, Sky knew to drink slowly to avoid cramps later on. Plus, it helped savor the refreshing feeling of it.
“Where am I, exactly?”
– { ♔ } –
“You’re welcome.”
Nathaniel watched as she drank the beverage, and then he pursed his lips to one side of his face. She didn’t know where this place was. That told him something.
“The Headquarters, Antellia.”
[ Gek: ]
– [ ╛╘ ] –
“It’s legal in some places. And they have a mess of ways they get around it in all the other.”
He shifts to check for his wallet.
“If I don’t happen to have any money… Is there any way to earn some quickly?”
– { ✧ } –
“Well. That sounds terrible, if I’m going to be honest. And I usually am, by the way.”
She sways in her stance, uncomfortably.
“Eh . . . There might be some quick jobs, if you’re up for it.”
[ Jezabel: ]
“Thank you.” Jezabel replied, but her smile said that she knew exactly how good she truly was. She had been trained since she was 12, so if she wasn’t that good, it would almost be a disappointment. “Me too. How long have you been practicing?” She gave a small laugh. “No, surprisingly. It helps me stay awake. But maybe I do get a little hyper, I’ve never really noticed.”
“You’re welcome.” Scott answered, letting out a sort of chuckle once he saw the smile on her face. Perhaps he hadn’t been training for as long as she had, so it was probably expected that he wasn’t as good. “For a while, I think. A few years or so. I lost count.” He shook his head lightly. “That’s kind of what caffeine does. Keep you awake, I mean.”
[ slave: ]
Gek narrowed his eyes at the man. That much money, and he’d been carrying it on him somehow, all that time. And the grin that flashed across his face, if only for a moment, held something dark, malicious even.
Gek liked it.
The auctioneer took then money, glancing over it, and nodding quite a bit. He pulled a paper out of his bag - one Gek had seen before, a few times since he’d signed it - and handed it to the buyer.
“It’s magically binding. He can’t kill you - or himself - and he can’t run off without permission. It’s a pleasure doing business with you.”
Tenebris accepted the contract--proof that he was now, in fact, the slave’s owner. “Good. I’d hate to see him run off. That would be a shame, wouldn’t it?” And even though it wasn’t said as one, there was a hint of a threat in his statement.
He already knew what else to do here, to leave the place wrecked, hopefully. Already he sent a thought through all the other slaves’ heads, dark and evil enough to drive them mad. Then he smiled.
“A pleasure, indeed.” And he waited until the auctioneer would allow him to take his slave. “Perhaps we’ll meet again. I, for one, hope we do not.”

She stopped and turned to him. “Oh? And how do you plan to stop me?” her voice was far quieter than normal, and an evil grin was on her face. The griffin’s seemed unsettled by her sudden change in demeanor.
“Stop you?” He huffed through his nose, seeming unfazed by grin on the others’ face, and grimaced. “I’m not stopping you. I have to come with you.” He made a face, as though to tell her that he wasn’t going to change his mind.
[ it wouldn’t be a kitchen if there isn’t food: ]
♚ ― “Sorry.”
She vaguely looked around, but was still too out of breath to take in any observations. She was a sprinter, not a runner. Although, from the man’s tone, it was someplace top secret.
“Yes please.”
– { ♔ } –
“It’s fine.”
But he said it with an exasperated sigh, then turned around to look for a glass of water. He returned a moment later, handing the other a plastic cup filled with water.
“Here you go.”

“That is in fact the meaning of that word, yes.”
He gives her a slightly awkward smile, trying to prove to her that he doesn’t mind the questions.
“That will be really helpful here soon. I can probably get away with delaying for a few hours, but if I’m not back when I’m supposed to be, it won’t go super great for me.”
– { ✧ } –
“That doesn’t really sound legal, I think.”
This statement was made in her usual tone; not with many fluctuations in pitch.
“Well, I can imagine. I just hope you have enough money on you for a pass. They’re not always too happy if you can’t pay for your ticket, you know.”
[ slave: ]
Gek held the man’s gaze, mirroring it’s ferocity, and he rolled his bottom lip into his mouth, smirking all the while. But there was something about the man that seemed different than those he was used to. Almost as though the power in his stare boasted was… real.
The auctioneer listed a high price, but Gek only snorted, rolling his eyes again. “Hey, hey, I was worth twice that when my mistress was alive.” He objected, grumbling under his breath. “Devaluing bastard.”
The being pretended to think for a moment, ignoring the slave’s objection. The auctioneer gave a large price, and he recognized that. But despite this, Tenebris offered more, handing the man before him the currency--though, where he got it from, no one could tell.
It was then that Tenebris glanced around the room again, eyes moving from detail to detail, slave to slave, trying to think of a way to cause a little chaos before he left. A hint of a smile spread across his lips, but quickly faded away.

She glanced at the badge. “Congrats. A small group of bandits that’s part of a larger group of bandits who destroyed one of my temples is hiding nearby. I’m going to… take care of them.”
“. . . I can’t let you do that. Not on your own,” he answered, after a brief moment of hesitation. “You might be a god, but the rules of Antellia still apply, even to you.”
[ Jezabel: ]
“At least you got a fair warning.” She leaned casually against the wall on the other side of the table, waiting patiently for him to put everything back. She followed him toward the door before moving in order to walk beside him. “Nice job by the way, you’re a pretty good shot.” Jezabel said. “A venti peppermint mocha. With lots of caffeine in it.”
“Yeah, at least I did. You’re pretty good, you know.” An understatement, he knew so. She was better than him, and that was saying something. But Scott continued down the sidewalk, keeping a good pace so that the other could walk beside him. “Thanks. I’ve been practicing for a long while, you know,” he replied. “Lots of caffeine? Doesn’t that make you hyper?”
[ ???: ]
“Would we, though?” Elliot said, eyes almost sparkling with a kind of secret amusement. Oh, there were humans that loved the water just fine, ones that were always easier to fall to siren song, but then there was blood. He highly doubted they, whoever they might be, was the later.
“Memories are tricky.” Mostly because some faded, and some came up and terrible times, and some you could never really puzzle together back around the right way. “Maybe we should play a game instead so you don’t worry so much about the things you can’t help out of doors.” Certainly he couldn’t go outside anyway.

“I think so, but either way, it’s still only a guess.” Alex shrugged, a light smile playing on her lips. It would be possible for her to do a perfect imitation of Natalia, she supposed--all it would take was some concentration. But she supposed that she should save that trick for later.
“They are, that’s why I prefer seeing the real thing, you know?” She agrees, and, to be honest, she was very glad that she had a good memory. At least then she could remember the birthdays of all the people in the force. “Oh? And what game do you suggest we play, then?” He now successfully caught her interest; if he had an interesting game, she’d play.
[ Gekuto the unreadable: ]

“Not really… It’s more that they’re very tight with the people who own me.”
He shrugs, as though the knowledge is nothing special. It’s a bit of a half lie, but it’s the best he can say without doubling over in pain.
“I really didn’t mean to show up here. I don’t usually move between worlds on my own, and I think I got a little lost?”
– { ✧ } –
“Own you? You mean, like, people actually owning you?”
Her brow furrows now, a little surprised by this latest statement. But she still isn’t sure how much she can ask without him flinching again.
“That happens more often than you’d think, you know. We’ve got a couple buses that run to other worlds, if you need them.”
[ Jezabel: ]
Jezabel smiled wider, having taken off her headphones just in time to hear what he said. “I did tell you, you know.” She teased, putting her headphones and glasses back on the table. “I happen to love Starbucks and would happily walk with you to go get one, especially since you’ll be buying.” She slid the gun into its sheath on her hip. “Maybe I’ll let you win at something else later.”
“Yeah, you did.” Scott replied, placing his items back onto the table, all while chuckling. He rubbed his hands together, as though to get rid of some sort of unseen dust that was on them. “I don’t really think that would be necessary, thank you very much,” he shook his head, then started leading her towards the door. “C’mon, don’t want to be late for the coffee. What would you like?”

“What’s it to you, boy?” she growled over her shoulder. The griffin on her left looked back and made a noise that sounded strangely like a snicker.
He caught up with the other, one hand lifting a badge and an identification. “My name is James Burman. I’d like to know what exactly is going on.”
[ slave: ]
“Gekuto,” He replied, lifting his chin a little higher. “I don’t want your special food or your training. The attitude is permanent, comes with the package.” The slightest hint of a smirk pulled at his lips and he tipped his head to one side, lifting his eye brows. “Anything else you’d like to know?”
At this, the auctioneer fidgeted uncomfortable, clearly undecided as to whether or not some form of discipline was in order.
“I don’t believe that’s up to you to decide, Gekuto.” There was a kind of venom in his voice, and a look in his eyes as though he knew what the slave feared most. And then Tenebris paused, still staring into the boy’s eyes, forcing the other to look back, until his lips formed the words, “Your price.”
He straightened himself and stood, brushing off the fabric of his suit as he spoke to the auctioneer. “How much for him?”

“Nice to meet you too.”
He gives her a genuine smile, but then chuckles dryly, picking back up the conversation for lack of another topic.
“Well I didn’t exactly hang around them by choice. I don’t usually get to hang around anyone by choice.”
– { ✧ } –
“They were that . . . what’s the word? Protective? Maybe obsessive. I don’t know.”
She’s met those kind of people before. She isn’t really a big fan of them, to say the least.
“So. What brings you to Alledia, then?”
She rolled her eyes again and turned to the griffins. “So, what’s so important that you had to come bother me when I’m out for a walk?” The griffins began explaining something in squawks, and she nodded as they spoke. As they finished, she growled, “Oh for pete’s sake!” and began striding forward. She moved easily around James, the griffins following at a trot.
James sighed and let the others run past him, watching his shadow for a few short moments before he sighed and turned around. “Hey!” he called after them, then started to follow behind them. Something the goddess had said caught his attention, and he was certain to find out what exactly they were up to. “Wait up! Where are you going?”
