Goodiebox February 2015

"Hooked On You"

Here's Feb's Goodiebox:

1. Batiste / Dry Shampoo / Full Size 50ml / RRP $7.99 (I have seen this at Countdown for $6.99) / I received this in the scent "Blush".  I did save this to use on a Sunday morning (really didn't want to be caught out at work on the Monday with gross hair in case it didn't do the trick).  My hair is quite oily on top (but have dry ends).  I thought I had used plenty but I found it didn't really do much, it felt cleaner and smoother but it had little effect on the way it looked - next time I will use a lot more and see if this does the trick.

2. Sleek / Pout Paint / Full Size 8ml / RRP $16.95 - I received this in "Pinkini" (Using the exchange rate, this is $10.34NZD on the Sleek website). I haven't used this yet - I'm not sure if I will, it's a bit bright for me! In saying that, I did do a swatch, the colour is really cool and it feels amazing.

3. Sleek / Eye Dust / Full Size 6.5g / RRP $14.95 each (Using the exchange rate, these are $6.20NZD each) / I received "Fantasy" and "SoSleek".  Again, the pink isn't really a colour I would use, but I definitely will give the purple one a go!

4. GoodieBox NZ / Metallic Transfer Tattoos / Full Size 2 Sheets / RRP $25.00 - I did see this before summer, I would have loved to try some over the summer period purely for on beach days! Not sure how I will work with some of these tattoos at the moment and also working in an office with a bunch of businessmen! Hmmm.. They do look like fun though!

5. Argania / Liquid Gold Hair Oil / Full Size 100ml / RRP $35.00 - I received 8ml RRP $2.80 - I haven't sampled this yet, I am looking forward to though, if it's anything like the Pureology Oil I received in the Christmas box I will love it!

6.  Palmers / Eventone BB Cream / Full Size 30ml / RRP $10.50-14.99 - I received two 8ml sample sachets RRP $3.50 - Wow I've decided I'm in love with BB Cream! BUT not in love with this brand.  I received Medium/Dark samples and it looked like a failed fake tan, I would love to try a lighter shade. That's not the bad part though, I'm going to be brutally honest here, the smell was gross! I did like the texture though, and it did do the job at evening out my skin tone. So I'm now looking for a BB cream to use - any suggestions would be fab :)

7.  Dencoly / Angel II Helichrysum / Revitalising Shampoo & Conditioner for Dry & Damaged Hair / Full Size 400ml RRP $39.00 - I received 2 samples of each (16ml) $3.20 - Wow just wow! I love trying out new shampoos & conditioners! The sachets are good for one use only (drats). This shampoo made my hair feel so clean, it didn't feel like there was any residue left in there after rinsing, and then the conditioner just softened my hair right up! This product smells really nice and would absolutely purchase if it wasn't so pricy!

Empties!

Here's a few products I've either finished or didn't like:

1. ecostore Body Wash / Orange & Patchouli / 400ml / $6.50 - Loved this body wash, a little goes a long way! I have repurchased but in a different scent, not because I didn't like this one I just love trying new products!!

2. Kathmandu Travel Wipes / 20 pack / I got these free but I think they have an RRP of $3 - I haven't used these all up yet, I wasn't a huge fan, they dried out real quick and I found them too thin for my liking.

3. Simple Anti-Perspirent / 50ml / $3.99 - I have heard good things about this brand so decided to give this deoderant a go when I ran out - I tried it for a week to give it a good chance, I first noticed how strong the smell was, it smells full of chemicals almost like nail polish remover mixed with alcohol, I found myself reapplying during the day also - didn't like it at all.

4. Avon Footworks Pedi-Peel / 22 pads / $6 - I liked these, they were refreshing and soothed the rough calluses on my feet, I did find I had to use a foot moisturiser after though however I won't be repurchasing as I didn't get to use these all as they dried up, bit disappointed with that.

5. Mum Anti-Perspirent / Shower Fresh / 50ml - Got given this not sure of RRP - This is a nice deoderant, refreshing and dries quick but doesn't last all day as it claims, had to reapply therefore I didn't use this all.

6. Avon Extra Lasting Mascara / Black / I think I can recall it was roughly $12 - Love the wand on this mascara, it didn't clump at all which I find with a lot of mascaras, my lashes stood out and it did last all day, unfortunately this irritated the heck out of my skin, my eyes were constantly itchy from wearing this - so disappointed as I would have loved to use this!

7. ELF Lengthening & Defining Mascara / Black / I purchased this in a set - Yay I found a mascara that DIDNT irritate my eyes at all, very soft and easy to apply, huge fan!! BUT as you can see by the pic this is very clumpy and I haven't used this for more than a few weeks.

8. Karen Farley Rejuvenating Facial Repair / 50ml - I purchased this with a few other Karen Farley products as part of a package deal making this roughly $15.80 but if you buy it separately it is $39 (I believe it is buy one get one free though!), huge fan of this product, I will definitely be repurchasing!! It is in place of a toner and I absolutely loved it.

9. Smooth Minerals Avon Blusher / Rose Rose - I wanted to love this product however the shade wasn't right for my skintone.  I also didn't like the pot, even though the holes are tiny, there was always excess product coming out that just got everywhere.  The blush itself felt amazing, perhaps a different shade and in a pressed powder form would be good!

10. Avon Anew Vitale Night Cream / 50ml / I would definitely recommend this product to anyone with normal/combination skin.  I unfortunately now need products for dry skin, this left my skin still a bit too dry and flaky in some spots.  I did use the cleanser, day cream, toner and eye cream in this set also and found they are not suitable for people with dry skin.  Smells refreshing and feels refreshing though - Love it!

Mini NYX Haul!

I'm all for purchasing affordable makeup and love a good bargain so when I saw NZ Sale was doing a NYX sale I was right there with bells on!

Majority of products were $5-10 - right up my alley.

Here's my mini haul:

1.  Mega Shine Lip Gloss / Shade: Pop / 15ml / It looks really orange in the packaging, and I was a bit worried about how orange it might appear on my lips but it is very light, it's perfect.

2.  Mega Shine Lip Gloss / Shade: Crystal / 15ml / I'm always excited about getting new clear glosses, they are perfect for over the top of lipsticks or if I'm having a no-makeup day.

3.  Mega Shine Lip Gloss / Shade: African Queen / 15ml / I wouldn't normally wear a shade like this but I thought I'd buy it anyway as it looked absolutely gorgeous..I'm so glad I did, it's definitely my favourites out of the lip glosses I bought. This is extremely pigmented, I didn't have to apply much at all on my lips, the colour is very vibrant, it's such a gorgeous colour.

I love these glosses, they are easy to apply and you only need a small amount. My only little nag is that the Pop and Crystal glosses have a little bit of glitter in them which can feel a bit gritty on my lips, otherwise I love them.

4.  Sheer Gloss / Shade: Vintage / 15ml / Big fan of the cute packaging and I was surprised when I took the cap off to see a paint brush style applicator which I've never seen before. I quite like it though, it's incredibly soft and is super easy to use. I love the colour but after applying it I've found that it doesn't stand out that much and makes my face look a bit washed out - again I LOVE the colour but unfortunately it doesn't suit my skin tone! (swatch in above pic)

5.  Lip Smacking Fun Colors Lipstick / Shade: Vitamin / 4g / Wow I am so in love with this lipstick, it's the perfect shade for my skin tone. This glides on so well, it is really creamy and incredibly soft - it's almost a lipbalm.  THIS is what all lipsticks should feel like!!

6.  Blush / Shade: Espresso / 5.2g / I have finally found my perfect blush shade. I always seem to buy shades a bit lighter than this. This one shows up a bit more than those and is quite pigmented so not a lot needs to be applied.  It is very easy to blend as well.

 7.  Eyeshadow / Shade: Blue Marine / 2.5g / I was really excited to see this online and also when I opened everything BUT it isn't quite the blue I was hoping for after applying it.  I was hoping for something a bit more navy.

8.  Eyeshadow / Shade:  Barely There / 2.5g / This is the exact shade I was hoping for!

I love the packaging of these eyeshadows - if I could, I would have all my eyeshadows packaged like this - I hate it when colours get mixed on a palette.  These eyeshadows are extremely silky and soft, really easy to apply and blend.  Love them both for what they are.

9.  Eye/Eyebrow Pencil / Shade: Black / 2g / Huge fan of this eyeliner (I have light brown eyebrows so I won't be using this on my eyebrows)! It is a long pencil which makes it so much easier to guide and apply. The pencil is creamy and blendable. Love it! (cute print design also).

10.  The Make-up "This is the best make-up I've ever used" SPF/FPS 15 Natural & Long Lasting Liquid Make-up / Shade: Tawny / 30ml / This is a pump bottle - I like that style as it pushes the liquid right up to the top so you don't waste any product. I was a bit hesitant to purchase this shade at first as it's a bit darker than the usual shades I go for but it is perfect for me, it looks like I have coverage but it is still natural looking. It is quite lightweight - I've never tried one like this before, but I actually like it.  It's not cakey and doesn't feel heavy during the day.

Dr.Hauschka Handcreme

So, as you know, I received 2 sample sachets of this handcreme in my January Goodiebox to try out.  They were both 2.5mls.  A full size of this product is 50ml and has an RRP of $39.  I got 8 uses out of these 2 sachets which I think was a great deal!

I'll start off by saying I have actually tried this handcreme before a couple of years ago so I was really excited to see these in the Goodiebox to get a reminder of what it was like.

The smell - I think you will either love it or hate it! It's quite an organic scent, I can't describe it, it reminds me of the smell of walking through fresh gardens full of beautiful flowers. I personally dig the smell - it's strong when you first apply it but I couldn't smell anything about 30minutes after putting it on my hands.

The texture - It's quite thick but at the same time it's really soft, it's definitely not a hand crème you have to rub really hard to spread around.  It glides over your hands effortlessly.  The crème is a mustardy yellow colour.

Does it do the job? - The pamphlet claims that it soothes, nourishes and protects hands from cold, harsh, dry conditions...without leaving a greasy residue.  It definitely nourishes, my hands did feel hydrated but it didn't appear to last all day - I felt like I needed to reapply it - maybe I didn't use enough in the first place.  It doesn't leave a greasy residue which I loved.  It was a bit hard to judge whether it protects from cold, harsh and dry conditions as we received it during summer.

Overall I really like this handcream, it has a nice organic scent, it left my hands feeling fresh, it's fast-absorbing and doesn't leave my hands feeling greasy.  My only downside is that it's $39 for only 50ml - 50ml isn't a lot.  I do love that Dr.Hausckha's products are natural and organic. If I were to purchase it, it would be a product I would buy once a year during winter - in fact I might just do that!

Memebox Unboxing - Special #61 Volume Up

This is the second Memebox I received last week - the box is exactly the same as the other one except the size of this box is a bit bigger.  I forgot to add in the last post that there is some light pastel green tissue underneath all the products inside the box.

Let's get into this box:

1.  Sam B 803 Cream | 50g | Full Size $34 | "..specifically designed so that each cream targets different parts of the face......enriched with 5 natural essential oils to nourish, rejuvenate, and add extra volume to bust.." - Are you confused?  This cream is for either your busts "B" or hips "H", I received the "B" cream.  The information sheet says it is designed to target your face but it also says this cream is for your busts, anyway...I will apply this to my busts and see what happens, I can't imagine this actually would add volume to my busts, I certainly won't be complaining if it does!

2.  Enesti Ultra Volume Mascara | 7ml | Full Size $9 | "...delivers pumped-up, glamorous lashes"  I tried this the other day, I was disappointed when I took the brush out as the product was clumpy on parts of the brush, almost like this product had been sitting on a shelf for some time and dried up. Apart from that disappointment my lashes did look a lot longer and more noticeable - I think I will use it but I don't think it's a product I would go out and buy again.

3.  Ok so according to the information card I should have received a tube of Mise En Scene 2x Curling Essence 30ml $12 - it wasn't in the box.  I contacted Memebox and they made me feel stupid by saying the product was not included as it was an expired product and also said "you even received an information card" as if to say "don't you read your card".  Yes I did read the card and it quite clearly shows the product! Anyway never mind.  Reading the info about the product I really wish it was on the box as it's supposed to rejuvenate dry, damaged hair and adds volume and shine.  This would have been perfect for my hair!

4.  Shara Shara Glitter Pearl Powder | Snow White 2.2g | Full Size $7 | First of all the packaging is sooo cute - do I have to throw it away?! Does anyone keep their cute boxes like this?  I have used this a couple of times and I quite like it.  It is so easy to apply and the product shows up so well - this is definitely a keeper!

5.  Tonymoly Kiss Lover Lip Plumper | Hoot Mint 4.6ml | Full Size $8 | Wow I am so in love with this product it's not funny! This is definitely my favourite product out of the Memebox.  The applicator is incredibly soft and a little bit flexible, I feel this makes applying the gloss easier to my lips.  The gloss isn't sticky at all, it's minty, refreshing and makes my lips feel plumped - honest!  The gloss kind of tingles a few seconds after application.

6.  Mizon Water Volume Aqua Gel Cream | 50ml | Full Size $9 | This is a lightweight, fast-absorbing facial cream enriched with Alaska glacier water, deep ocean water, coral water, witch hazel leaf, watermelon, basil leaf, lotus, niacinamide and birch tree sap.  It balances out and brightens up uneven skin tone and delivers instant moisture boost.  Paraben free.  It sounds like an interesting face cream that I'll definitely be willing to try out!

7.  Pureplus + Lip Treatment Milk Bebe | 10g | Full Size $10 | A lip treatment proven to replenish, nourish, and plump dry, chapped lips.  I love this lip treatment.  It feels nourishing, plumps them up and has a hint scent of vanilla. I haven't had chapped lips to try it on but am most sure it will do the trick!

So that's everything from the Memebox Special #61 Volume Up box.  I am quite happy with all the products I received.  My only disappointments were the clumped up mascara and the fact that they left out the hair product but printed it on the card. I'm looking forward to trying the bust cream and the facial cream - will see how those go and let you know!

This box cost me $40NZD including shipping.  I think it's quite good value for $40 - considering the bust cream alone is worth $34!  As I said in my last post - I think Memebox have now stopped international orders so this was my second and last Memebox, glad I got to try it out! Memebox Unboxing!

This is one of two Memeboxes that I ordered, this one is called the "Secret Key Holiday Season 2" box!

Isn't the box cute! I was so excited to open this! I didn't really know what to expect, I've seen a few Memebox unboxings and I will admit I have seen some weird looking products! I ordered this particular box knowing I was getting products from the same brand so I could at least decide whether I liked the brand or not.

Let's get into the box! At first glance I notice there's no information card which is a little frustrating as there is practically no English written on any of the products (except the name of the product), and unfortunately when I went on to their website to look at the link in my orders, the page for this particular box no longer existed - grrr - so I had to do my own research on the internet to find out about each product.

1.  Snow White Cream - 50g - This is a whitening cream for bright skintone.  Provides healthy complexion for dull or makeup-less skin for a bright and luminous look.  Applies lightly on skin without oily or sticky sensation, for soft and lustrous skin.  Also included is a spatula like spoon to scoop the cream out.  I used this once and unfortunately won't be using it again because of the perfume-like scent.  Even though it is a nice scent, I can't handle too strong scented products on my face for an entire day.  Otherwise I did find from that one time use that it does what it says, it is brightening, it did leave my skin feeling soft and did apply lightly.  I did find though that you have to rub it in quickly as it kind of sets in place and leaves white marks if you don't rub it in quick enough.  I have dry skin so I think this would work better for me if I used a moisturiser before applying this.

2. High Protection Sun Cream - SPF 50+ - 30g.  I haven't used this product yet but I have squeezed a small amount on the top of my hand.  It feels very light on my skin, it isn't a thick texture which I love, I hate feeling caked in sunscreen when I wear it. It smells like a normal typical sunscreen, no strong scent or anything so I like that.  I look forward to using this when I need to head out in the sun - fingers crossed I don't come home looking like a lobster!  Will keep you posted!

 3.  Starting Treatment Essence - 30ml - This is used as a toner after cleansing.  I have seen some other reviews and people pour this into their hands and use their fingers but I shake this lightly onto a round cotton pad and apply that to my face, it is a lot easier to apply that way!  I personally love this product.  Some toners leave my face feeling a bit sticky or dry - this one feels slightly heavier, I can actually still feel it after applying it, my skin feels smooth.  I definitely look forward to using this one daily!

4.  Starting Treatment Eye Cream - 30g - I quite like this product too.  It is very light and moisturising, non-scented and refreshing. I'll definitely be using this one!

5.  Milk Whipping Hand Cream - 60ml - When I saw the contents on the Memebox website I was looking forward to trying this because look at the packaging!  I really should stop judging a book by its cover! Even though this hand cream feels absolutely divine and leaves my skin feeling extremely smooth, this one is scented, a lot like the scent of the Snow White Cream, it's not as strong but I'm still not a fan of it! I'm sure many of you would like it but if you're not into baby-powder/perfume scented products I don't recommend this!

6. The Blue Cream - The recipe cream with moisture color capsule - 55g.  I am going to use this as a day cream.  It's a gel like substance and smells like lemon and limes, well it reminds me of them anyway - hope I've got that smell right! But I can't smell anything when I have applied it - bonus! I didn't need to put much on my fingers, it is extremely spreadable and glides on with ease.  It feels really refreshing - love it!

So there you have it - the Secret Key Holiday Season 2 Memebox! What did you think? This cost me NZ$40 including shipping.  Overall I'm not completely satisfied but there are some good products. I don't have an information card and can no longer check the link on their website to check the product value and information so that's a bit annoying but I do think there's a good selection of products for $40! To be honest I don't think I would purchase Secret Key products in the future, but that is only based on my opinion on a couple of these products - the scent of the cream and handcream, I wouldn't want to spend a lot of money ordering these separately and risk receiving something I don't like.  I like subscription boxes as they allow you to spend a lot less money on products then form opinions on brands and decide whether you want to purchase that brand.

I have heard that soon Memebox will no longer be shipping internationally so I got these in time to judge the Memebox.  I'm glad I did get a couple.  I think I would rather buy the Memeboxes full of beauty products - not skincare, I like to really enjoy amazing skincare products, I don't think the products I received were amazing unfortunately but I will still use the few items I do like.

4.  Shiseido / Ibuki Refining Moisturiser Enriched / Full Size 50ml / RRP $78 (RECEIVED SAMPLE SIZE OF 18ml)  “This multi-action formula intensively corrects the appearance of unevenness such as visible pores, breakouts/blemish marks and skin roughness by building skin’s strength to resist problems.  Renews the skin’s surface to reveal an incredibly smooth, uniform texture.  The appearance of fine lines caused by dryness is reduced, keeping skin hydrated all day long.  To use: Smooth over the face after cleansing and softening at night.”

5.  Dr Hauschka / Hydrating Hand Cream / Full Size 50ml / RRP $39 (RECEIVED 2 SAMPLE SIZED SACHETS OF 2.5ml EACH)  “Dr Hauschka’s top seller! Fast absorbing and moisturising - this hand cream contains Bryphyllum which has intense regenerative and hydrating properties, supporting the skin’s natural processes of renewal.  All natural, all organic.”

6.  Glamourflage / Daisy Delight Lip Balm / Mellow May Lip Balm / Full Size 20ml / RRP $15.95  “Pucker up!  These deliciously sweet lip balms are packed with delightful goodness including Vitamin E and natural moisturisers to soothe and restore lips, your pout will be irresistible!.”

I also received the following freebies:

1.  Pureology / Pure Volume Instant Levitation Mist / Full Size 145ml / RRP $35-52 (RECEIVED SAMPLE SIZE OF 30ml) - This product is not listed on the card from Goodiebox so I had to research to find out the full size and also compare prices.

2. Shiseido / Ibuki Multi Solution Gel / Full Size 30ml / RRP $69 - I had to take a card into Farmers (my nearest Shiseido stockist) to receive my free sample sachet of 1.5ml.

I am really impressed with all of these products! I think I have lucked it quite well with this box.  The colours in the So Susan Brow Powder are the exact shades that suit me, I am really excited to try the Jelly Pong Pong eyeliner/shadow, I have sensitive eyes so I’m crossing my fingers this doesn’t irritate my skin.  I am also really stoked about the nail polish colour I received - I don’t usually go bold on my finger nails so I think this colour is quite subtle and won’t stand out like a sore thumb!

I have used Shiseido products in the past and absolutely loved using them, I am almost out of my night moisturiser so this came at the right time and I think this sample size will last a while.  I was given a Dr Hauschka hand cream a few years ago and adored it so I am excited to receive these samples - they may give me the push to go buy some!

I am a HUGE FAN of lip balm so I was so excited to see one in the Goodiebox, mine is cherry flavoured - it smells divine (it kind of reminds me of those sparkler lollies you used to be able to buy) - can’t wait to use this everyday!! And last but not least, the freebies, woohoo - I received a Pureology product in the Christmas Goodiebox and still use it after every hair wash - I love it, my hair is real thin so this is perfect, can’t wait to use this volume mist!

A little E.L.F!

I have seen e.l.f products all over youtube and decided I need some for myself to see what all the hype was about – yeah I know, I’m a tad behind! As I’ve said before I’m just a newbie.

I ordered a few goodies online – here’s what I got:

1. Mineral Infused Face Primer – Clear – Ideal for all skin tones – 13.7g – “Transform your face into a flawless and smooth canvas with the Mineral Infused Face Primer. Developed to combat excess oil, flaky dryness, enlarged pores and fine lines to result in a natural and youthful looking radiance.  This clear multipurpose skin primer will prepare your skin so makeup goes on evenly for a lasting satin finish”.

This will be my first time using a primer. I’ve seen tutorials and am actually quite wowed at how they make your skin look after applying it.  So I tried it and can’t believe I have never tried a primer before! It feels amazing, it left my face feeling so smooth I just wanted to keep touching it. My foundation glided on a lot more easily and left my face feeling fresh all day. Thumbs up!

2. Tone Correcting Concealer – Apricot Beige – 2.3g – “Hides complexion imperfections, evens out skin tone, natural looking, silky smooth coverage”.

It does look a little light in the packet so we’ll see if it’s the right shade for me. Well I’m surprised it actually has a nice light covering, it MAY be on the lighter side, I think I could go for a shade or two darker, but anyway it is very easy to apply and blend – another thumbs up!

3. Plumping Gloss – Set of 3 (no names for each shade) – 2.3g each – “Forget costly collagen injections or those painfully stinging glosses, achieve a perfect pout with e.l.f Plumping Lip Gloss! This revolutionary lip plumper infuses key ingredients that awaken your senses for fresh, volume enhanced and moisturised lips”.

I love these colours – I am excited to try these out! Which one is your favourite? As you can see on the swatches they’re not very pigmented, in fact I had to apply a few layers just to get those colours showing. I actually don’t mind that as it allowed me to control how much colour I wanted on my lips – I love subtle colours so I love these! My lips did feel very moisturised and felt more pouty than usual. I did have to reapply after a few hours.

4. Super Glossy Lip Shine SPF 15 – Party Peach – 10g – “Brilliant, never sticky long lasting shine, moisturises and soothes on contact, protects against sun and skin aging.  Safe gentle formula.  Instantly beautiful, healthy looking lips designed, formulated and tested by our professional team of makeup artists”.

 I was instantly drawn to the shade of this lip gloss and also the fact that it was SPF. I love the colour! I love my peachy/apricot/orange shades. Again it’s very subtle but it has a bit more colour than the plumping lip glosses, but I didn’t have to layer this on my lips. The only thing I didn’t like about the gloss is that it is REALLY sticky – I only dislike that aspect because they say on their packaging that it’s not. Otherwise I love it!

First Impressions:  The packaging looks fun and still as good as other products that you would pay more for. I guess for the cost I was expecting something a bit more tacky. However I did think the screw top lids on each of the lipglosses and concealer were a bit stiff and didn’t screw on and off easily – the plastic also feels really lightweight, but in saying that it’s the same material used on many other products I have which are way more expensive.

All in all for the price I paid I am quite impressed! I’ll definitely be purchasing more e.l.f products!

Karen Farley Skincare

Did anyone else receive a “Request A Free Sample” card from Karen Farley in the New Zealand Herald and follow through with it?  I did! At first I thought it could be some kind of scam, but it was worth a shot hey!

A month later I received a sample tube of Karen Farley’s Age-Defying Intensive Moisturiser with Pomegranate And Oat Seed.  I fell in love with this product instantly – the packaging, the smell and the feel of it on my skin.  I then ordered the following from Karen Farley:

I’m a big fan of face/skin care products so I was really excited to try out these new products.  As I hadn’t actually heard of Karen Farley prior to receiving that free sample request it made it more exciting to try these new products.

I’ve never used a cleansing crème on my face before – I’ve always used foam cleansers.  The crème feels a bit odd on my face, it feels thin and I always wonder if I’m using enough on my face.  Afterwards however my face feels clean, really soft and extremely smooth.  What I love also is that it doesn’t leave my skin feeling dry like foam cleansers.

The Intensive Moisturiser and Renewal Crème both feel great to use on my skin after a cleanse.  My face is quite dry so these products are specifically for people with dry skin.  I use the Intensive Moisturiser during the day.  It leaves my skin feeling fresh all day and my skin doesn’t become oily or dry at all.    The night crème does feel a bit thick when you first apply it but it doesn’t take long for your skin to absorb all the moisture and you are left with soft smooth skin.  In the morning my skin doesn’t feel oily or dry, it feels the same as it did after applying the moisturiser.

I use the Facial Repair (toner) both morning and evening, and use the Hydrator after the Facial Repair in the evening, before applying my moisturiser.  I love using both of these products, they are refreshing and gentle on my skin.

GoodieBox Christmas Edition 2014

WELCOME to my very first beauty review, and what better way to start than with a Christmas Limited Edition Goodie Box!  As I said in my previous post, I literally discovered the world of beauty subscription boxes a month ago.  Upon googling many sites and oohing and ahhing over several I stumbled across Goodie Box which not only looked fantastic but even better it was based in New Zealand!  Right then and there I saw they were selling a limited number of a Christmas Edition Boxes – must be a sign – had to get it!!

I can suddenly hear lots of voices saying “Just get on with it will you” – I’m listening so here we go:  Here’s a picture of the box that all the goodies came in (and I assume they come in a box like this every month).  It’s a thick hardboard which I love the feel of and the lid is a flip lid with a magnetic closure.  The second picture speaks for itself – all the beauty products wrapped in pink tissue.  They’ve got the pink theme running consistently!

So anyway – Here is what was included in my Limited Edition Goodie Box (and info as per written on the card):

1.  Glamourflage Vera Vamp Body Cream – I received a full size 250ml worth $36. “Blessed with 11 different moisturisers, pH balanced and laced with natural Mica particles to give your skin a beautiful pearly glow.  Apply this rich and luxurious body cream all over your body while skin is still damp after your shower.  Vera will sooth your skin to make sure it stays protected from the summer sun!”.

I LOVE the brand design – it is so feminine! I also love the round tin the cream is packaged in and the size is very generous (I love being able to dig in and get as much cream as I need and knowing none will go to waste at the end).  I love body creams/lotions to use straight after a hot shower so I was excited to see this in the box.  I will just say however that my senses do not like overly powered scents and I found the scent of this cream to be too strong for my personal liking – I wanted to like it though as a touch of it on my skin felt amazing! I was happy though that I was able to re-gift it as a Christmas present, and that person loved it – yay!

2.  Teeez Spectrum of Stars Eyeshadow – I received a full size 2g worth $32.  ”All the way from the Netherlands, Teeez cosmetics is an international rising starlet that we’re absolutely in love with – from the gorgeous packaging to their high quality products.  This shadow has a high gloss, semi-metallic finish that applies wet or dry.  With added Argan Oil means a luxuriously smooth, velvet texture that is long lasting”

WOW! I didn’t even want to open the box!  It is so inviting to the eyes so at the same time I just wanted to rip the box open and discover my little slice of heaven.  This is definitely my favourite product out of the Goodie Box. I will admit I’m not much of a beauty product know it all but this eyeshadow is as described – smooth, velvety and luxurious. The colour I received is called “Sepia Shine”. I usually stick with charcoal colours so it was nice to receive this brownish colour tone. I am often scared to branch out and try something new so this colour I guess was the perfect way to start using a new colour on my face! 100% happy with this product.

3. Australis Eye Pencil – I received a full size 0.28g RRP $14. “Australia’s best selling eye pencil. Glides on effortlessly in one easy stroke, long lasting and super pigmented, this eyeliner is sure to make your eyes a statement to show off at your Christmas parties!”.

I was happy to see an eye pencil in my Goodie Box, however I wasn’t particularly sold on the colour I received – Olive. This colour is a bit out of my comfort zone and can’t actually imagine me wearing it. BUT… I did do a small swatch on my hand, even though I’m not a fan of the colour, I will definitely be buying this brand next time I need a new eye pencil. It did glide on my skin effortlessly and felt amazingly soft.

4. Mode Cosmetics Nail Enamel – I received full size 15ml RRP $4. “Quality nail polishes CAN be inexpensive! Mode is fast-drying, chip free and mess-proof – your nails will look party-ready in no time. Available in all your local pharmacies.”

I’m a nail biter from way back unfortunately and I get so angry at myself for the bad habit – I just wish I had beautiful longer nails (not long just longer). I received the colour “Happy Snaps” which is a blue as you can see. My initial reaction was “is this for real, a blue nail polish for the Christmas season, where’s the red?!!”. Upon application, I was surprised, this colour is super likeable, it is perfect for summer. I straight away painted all of my nails and am absolutely stoked with the colour choice! Tip: Apply an extra coat to get a nice vibrant blue Happy Snap!

5.De Lorenzo Tricho Sensitive Shampoo & Conditioner – According to the card I received a full size of each 30ml RRP $8.60each, however I did do a search and discovered that a full size of these products is 200ml RRP approx $30 each.

I have heard of this brand and have always wanted to try it, but living on the budget I have I could never bring myself to spend that much on shampoo. I was excited to try these out! I found the shampoo quite runny…is this normal? I did shake it to try thicken it up just in case it wasn’t normal but it was still thin and runny. The bottle says to lather it up but this did not lather up in my hair. The second time I used it I used a fair bit more and was able to get a nice lathering! The conditioner was thicker than the shampoo which made it easier to apply. The small bottles only allowed me to get 3 uses but my hair did feel amazing after each use. I wish we did receive full size in this product, I absolutely love it!

6.  Pureology Precious Oil – I received a sample size of 30ml; Full size is 125ml RRP $43 (Sample Size Value $10.30).  ”An oil that lives up to its name of being the precious gem of hair oils!  This oil will penetrate deep into your hair fibres to boost your locks.  Use on hair to intensify shine, increase suppleness and protect colour.  TIP:  A little will go a long way.  Use on damp hair and dry as usual.”

Another favourite product received in my Goodie Box – I’m in love! Goodie Box was right when they say “A little will go a long way” – I squeeze a tiny bit on the palm of my hand, rub my hands together a little and swish my hands through my hair – I don’t notice any difference while my hair is damp but when it’s dry my hair feels amazing.  After each use my hair not only smells delicious like I could eat it but it feels so soft and luscious!  I am extremely happy with this product, and even though it’s a 30ml sample size, I can see it lasting at least a few months (who needs a full size – not me – give me a sample size for $10 any day!).

7.  Elegant Touch Nail Wraps – I received a full size 18 wraps RRP $13.  ”Multi-Award winning brand Elegant Touch comes as a salvation to all us creative girls.  These nail wraps will give you salon quality nail art, quick.  Just press on and your nails are ready to go!  TIP:  Cut into desired shapes or strips for D.I.Y nail art, make sure to use clear base and top coat for extra long lasting results!”

I have to be brutally honest here – I wasn’t that pleased to see these for two reasons 1. I don’t have long nails so really these are no good to me (but to be fair I’m probably the only person in this world who still bites their nails?!); and 2. I received these in a “Dotty Nude” colour – that’s a bit cringeworthy!  I wasn’t expecting these at all, but when I did see them I guess I would be expecting something more festive like a red colour with white snowflakes or green Christmas trees – do you know what I mean?  Luckily I have another friend who is in love with nail creativity and I put these in her Christmas stocking as a surprise from Santa!

8.  St Moriz Tanning Mousse – I received a full size 100ml RRP $20.  ”Raved about by beauty bloggers worldwide, this is the perfect self-tanner for newbies and tan fanatics alike.  Best try this for yourself!  The light mousse formula glides on for an easy, streak free application every time.  Get ready to glow.  TIP:  Apply using gloves or a tanning mitt to avoid staining your hands.”

Right so I can see the sense in including a tanning product in a summer Goodie Box so that’s great, and a full size even better.  I’m always nervous about using self tanning products as, hey, I’m not a professional! I’ve used them before and I can never get a perfect application without streaks, and might I add without smelling really yuck.  I received a “Medium” shade and it looks quite dark in the bottle so I’m not quite sure about using this one.  I’ve recently bought a sunbed concession and I’ve got a lovely light natural looking tan which I love, I don’t think I can bring myself to use the mousse over the top.  However, this is definitely a product I’ll hold on to and try out for myself.

Total Value of Goodie Box:  Approx $146.50 – Total Paid:  $60 (Sorry I can’t recall whether shipping was included, free or $5 – one of them).

Final Thoughts:  I was extremely happy with the majority of items but I would have maybe modified a couple of products; ie swapping the dotty nude nail wraps for something more festive, making the tanning mousse a sample product  as the colour shade is not for everyone but a sample would give you an idea of the shade you would buy (and of course replace this with a full sized item…cheeky much).  I also would have maybe included an application glove to apply the tanning mousse to make it less of a hassle to go out of my way to go buy a box of gloves (ah yes third world problems!). Overall I think the $60 value is definitely in the Goodie Box – not entirely sure of the RRP of $146.50 however – but each to their own – we place our own values on things we love and dislike!

I think this box has convinced me to subscribe to Goodie Box and purchase the next 3 boxes for 2015 – surely it’s gonna be Good! Check back  for my review of the January Goodie Box – thanks for reading!
