In an effort to give Finn something to eat that contains neither the word protein nor scramble, Poe has been slaving over a hot skillet for the last two hours trying to work up a perfect stack of pancakes. The stack he finally put together is far from perfect – they’re lumpy, misshapen and kind of pathetic – but it’s the best he can do, and he’s kind of proud. He’d slapped the plate in front of Finn with the effects of that pride stapled on his face as a broad grin, eyes crinkled at the corners, only now there’s no pride, just apprehension. He chews his lip.
“I won’t be offended. I promise.”

“Yenno you can come here whenever. Don’t have to wait until you have a delivery.” It’s assuming a lot about him, but so what. Go Fish Iasc pats a second flat stone laid into the grass next to them, two makeshift seats burrowed into a gentle slope, and carries on twiddling blades of grass together between their fingers. “Even I just drop in to check on the quiet, sometimes.”
“I know.” He sits down with a little huff, scuffs his boot on the stone trying to find purchase with one leg bent and his arm wrapped around it. “But if I came here all the time I’d have nothing to look forward to.”
