Fires
Fires are long-living beings endowed with magic that cannot be recognized externally. They look exactly like morts and can hide their abilities until they use their power.
Their magic resembles fire. It allows them to move objects, hold multiple targets at once, and slightly control real fire.
Their magical power grows with age, but it has a limit. It can be used to attack, but it does not cause damage like real fire, and it is impossible to lift extremely heavy objects or tear off limbs with it.
Lissars
Lissars are not a race, but a state.
Those Fires who manage to live for around a hundred years continue to exist beyond that point. However, their magic weakens, and although it still sustains life, the body gradually decays: the flesh dries out and eventually disappears, down to a complete skeleton.
In this state, all their power is spent on one thing - existence. Lissars are no longer capable of using magic as before; they cannot fight and can barely lift anything with it. They simply move and continue to be.
However, not forever - roughly another hundred and twenty years after fully becoming a Lissar, the magic fades completely, and with it, its bearer.
Morts
Morts are ordinary beings without magic. Externally, they are indistinguishable from Fires, which allows the latter to disguise themselves.
Morts form the foundation of most societies. They rely on physical strength, weapons, and learned skills rather than innate abilities.
Morts often fear magical beings, but this fear does not always manifest openly - sometimes it turns into aggression, cruelty, or a desire to control those who are stronger.
Catshi
Catshi are a separate race, not connected to magic. They formed in the harsh conditions of the mountains, where survival required strength and adaptation.
They have thick fur, developed wings, sharp claws, and fangs. Their bodies are adapted to cold, altitude, and constant struggle for survival.
Catshi often seem more irritable and harsh, but this is not a personality trait - it is a result of the environment they grew up in. Despite this, they vary greatly as individuals - from reserved to open and positive.
Translation: — If we don’t get out of here, I… I love you, bro. — I love you too, man. You’re my best friend in the world. — You’re mine too, buddy.
This is Vil. He isn’t a main character in the story, but for me he will always be one, because he was among the very first.
Vil works in his own underground laboratory. He is hot-tempered, distrustful, dislikes strangers, and is often dissatisfied with something.
After his wife’s death, he was left alone with his daughter, who became the most important thing in his life. Over time, Vil retreats deeper into his work and becomes more withdrawn.
He has two friends — Charles and Duff. Around them, he feels calmer, and their presence keeps him from completely sinking into grief and despair.
Happy New Year, I guess. For some it’s still coming, for others it has already arrived. I hope that in 2026 everything will finally be okay.
• In the drawing — Nicholas, Michelle, Yuki, and Finn.
Nicholas and Michelle are spies hiding in a post-war city. They monitor an organization that hunts down survivors and report everything to their team, which fights to protect the innocent.
They met Yuki during one of their rescue missions. At first, they just helped her and became friends, but later took her in — she had nowhere else to go. Over time, their bond grew stronger, and now they live together as a family of three partners.
Finn is their child.
