because I’m that kind of person, I’ll just do this the once: it’s Election Day in the United States! most of the elections in your locality are likely to be local elections, but these are often just as or more important than the national ones for your quality of living, and are frequently decided by much smaller margins than national elections—sometimes as few as double digit number of votes, or single digit in the smallest municipalities.

off-year elections can make a huge difference, and are normally decided by who actually shows up. have you heard about school boards deciding to ban books? school boards are normally elected! have you heard about state judges making calls on whether ICE can do things, or about mayors making calls in that regard? those guys are often elected! do you have an opinion on what laws do or don’t pass in your county or state? you can vote on those! opinions on redistricting? that is on the ballot in several states! so don’t forget to vote!
