~ Smells like desperation...
Lola heard her name being called by Kunihiko and took one last look at the mirror. She was in much better shape than when he had found her out in the streets, shaking and dirty. Lola had long, orange, straight hair and while working she decided to wear a ponytail. Her eyes were light blue and used to be really sparkly, but since it all happened, they were lifeless. She wasn’t very tall and was very skinny – although she did manage to gain some weight during the last week. Thanks to Kunihiko, of course. He also gave her some clothes: skinny jeans, a plain white t-shirt and shoes. And also, she was wearing the apron with the name of the bar. Once she stepped out of the bathroom, Kunihiko walked up to her.
“Come here, I’ll introduce you.” Said Kunihiko in a soft voice. Since he decided to hire Lola to work at his bar, he’s been nothing but polite and caring towards her. He was also pretty patient while teaching her what she had to do in the job. In a matter of minutes, he trusted her, which was weird for Lola, since she made an effort not to trust anyone since she ran from her home. Kunihiko found her when she was so desperate for food that she was about to rob a little store. Maybe he just took pity on her. “Hey guys, remember when I said that I hired someone? This is Lola. She’s been working here as a waitress.”
Lola found herself staring at five well dressed young men. I think these are the friends he’s constantly talking about, she thought to herself. Lola stared at each and every one of them. They didn’t look like bad people, but she didn’t trust them immediately either. She didn’t even trust Kunihiko yet, and he made a big deal out of making her comfortable – which mainly just made her even more uncomfortable.
“Why don’t you introduce yourself?” Kunihiko suggested with a soft smile. Lola looked up at him and sighed briefly. She was feeling self-conscious near these attractive men, because she felt like they were all staring at her and judging her. After what she went through with her family and after running away from her home, she became a different person: sarcastic, insecure, ill mannered and closed off to the world.
“You can call me Lola. I’m twenty years old and I’m a waitress at this bar.” After saying that, with a blank expression, she looked up at Kunihiko again. “Is that enough?” He nodded, smiling awkwardly and turned his gaze to his friends.
“Guys, your turn. Introduce yourselves to Lola.”
It surprised Yamato a bit when Kunihiko had told them that he has hired a worker for the bar. Long Island rarely had a lot of costumers so that another worker would be needed, so Yamato had thought that Kuni would have been able to handle the few costumers that did come.
Kuni had called them asking them to come over so that he could introduce the new employee.
Yamato waited patiently with the others, his arms crossed as he stood. He noticed a frail looking girl exit the bathroom, and Yamato wondered why exactly Kuni would hire her. Was she a relative? No, Kuni never mentioned anything about the employee being a relative, so why did he hire her?
He thought her introduction was rude, with the way she didn't offer even the slightest smile and how she asked Kuni if it was enough. His arms were still crossed as each of his friends introduced themselves one by one until his turn came up. There was a moment of silence as Yamato looked at Lola before finally speaking.
"I'm Yamato. I work as a teacher at an all girls school." That was all he said, returning the blank expression Lola had given them earlier.
