GBoP #1: “Yamcha’s Mid-Life Wish”

Yuuuup…. “Grab Bag of Plots” begins. So what better place to start than the story I meant to drop around two years ago. BECAUSE I’M PRODUCTIVE!

Premise: During a particularly hair-triggering mid-life crisis, Yamcha uses the dragon balls to wish for a child. (Spoilers I guess)

Background Notes: I started this two-ish years ago when I was using a very dated and terrible drawing platform on my frickin’ phone. I used to show wips of it but it’s changed a lot even back then. About halfway through this comics development I transitioned to the far superior medibang and had full intention of redrawing this entire comic in a proper resolution (and update the art/composition). Unfortunately, that didn’t really pan out and the only redrawn pages (for the most part, one asset is from the original version) were the final two pages that were ever completed. Rather than sitting on this any longer, I decided to just release it as is. But… sort of pulling a DBZ Kai and only redrawing some aspects but leaving the rest in it’s original quality. They’re pretty jarring so it’s overall presentation is messy as a result. The rest of what was supposed to occur will be summarized after the last page. Not much was left but I could never truly bring myself to finish it. I’ve had this story in my head for the longest time and I’ve more or less held back on telling it due to various factors such as the technical art fiasco and varying reception due to folk always suggesting alternate versions of the premise whenever I used to allude to it. (Which I get, but still.). Guess you could say it was a somewhat personal thing to me. So I’m high key so terrified of sharing this but I’m also tired of sitting on it.

So.. that said… yeah. Here it is. That… thing. The way I wanted and always meant to tell it… fairy-tale logic and all. Visually janky and in it’s mostly dated glory. (Starting at Page 2, cuz Page 1 had to be sacrificed due to image limit. If some words are hard to make out I suggest opening these on new tabs. For smaller borderline-unreadable text I’ll leave captions. Yeah it’s a hassle and I’m sorry.) Normal GBoP’s won’t be so image heavy but this was an exception.
