Friendly Illinoisian here: When it’s this cold I generally wear a hoodie under my carhartt coat, gloves (sometimes two pairs) hat, and scarf. I also have a pair of duck boots, wool socks, and some thick, work type jeans. As you just found out, it’s really important to cover your extremities. You can get frostbite in under 15 minutes when it’s this cold out. Even a pair of latex or nitrile disposable gloves is a lot better than nothing (I wore some to spread salt at work last night instead of my good gloves, because I didn’t want the blue dye from the salt to ruin them. They worked surprisingly well, but I have a high cold tolerance).

You probably don’t have any of this but it might be something you want to invest in because the climate’s only gonna get weirder, unfortunately.
