A pleasant morning walk near a waterfall, in Skyrim. It's pretty cold and there is snow and lots of icicles, but that's normal for the region so they aren't too bothered.

Stars above, stars below. A traditional elven sword game. Follow the music. Cut the opponent’s ribbons during the window of time when your moves aren’t mirrored.
Over the centuries the ritualized sword dances have evolved into complex performances and also given rise to an entire category of sports with significant rule differences, and their own major leagues and events. In many of those the overall style points of the performers are more important than the hits. In some variants the ribbons have inscriptions with gameplay significance, such as requiring them to be cut in a specific sequence, or a cut changes the rhythm and tune of the music so each of the opponents can try to set their preferred pace.
Wounding the opponent incurs a major penalty, so the armored costumes used in contemporary games have special dyes that change color on impact with the blade. They still retain visual callbacks to their ritualistic origins. The traditional player/team colors are green and blue. Purple is used for accents.
Humans stumbling upon strange, smooth-surfaced, unnaturally well preserved, fractal structures in the woods usually lack the context to know that they’re open air stages for just such dances and festivals, which tend to take place at night.
(About half of the background audience in here are not my characters, included them as a bonus, so the weird little guys and the individual climbing down the column would require their own separate explanation. Also, questionable decision on my part to include onlookers in the distance in a dark night scene)

Good-good
That pillow turned out surprisingly good
You have info for commissions?
Been meaning to put up something eventually, but I'm kinda slow, so by the time I finish my waitlist there's been someone to ask me in private messages.
But for the record, I use Paypal, and my rates for character illustrations are (depending on detail and complexity)
Bust: € 150 – 220
Halfbody: € 230 – 320
Fullbody: € 320 – 400
and ranges for the background/environment are
portrait + 20-90
halfbody + 40-120
fullbody + 60-260
In short, it's a commission of this character in the same portrait format as this one .
Also, yeah, I'm not dead.
I could feel myself losing sanity points while doing the background for this.
For the regular viewers of my paintings these characters will be familiar. I even included items and accessories that they've had in various older pictures but not all of them together.
But in previous pictures one would get the impression that she's a sort of haunting presence. I wanted to make one where he's consciously and deliberately interacting with her.
Well, that and also I got prompted because I got asked whether they have ever done any strange dance-like arcane rituals (oddly specific question but I liked it).
So the new items here reflect a more occult context. The body chains are more of a playful nod to the idea of arcane binding since clearly they do not actually impede anyone. The chain around her neck would be more substantial if she didn't trust he wouldn't misuse it (it's a callback to an older one where it was on him but she didn't look humanoid in that picture).
I might have mentioned it in an older picture but her prismatic wings can refract not just light but other types of waves too, so this was my reasoning behind sometimes having a ripple appearance on objects in the environment.
The new elements like the talon gauntlets/jewellery have bits of similar shape to the centerpiece of her crown, he's wearing these because it synchronizes their appearance.
Ah, and I imagined that she's always had a resemblance to statues like the ones in the background (and can camouflage among them to pretend to be one during the day) but I hadn't drawn and of the multiple places that have them before.
(wasn't sure if the tag comment meant you don't want me directly reblogging from you, so that's why I'm not @ your username)
Thank you, I like drawing them! There's something of a scope creep with pictures of recurring characters, once I'm happy with how they look, since I want to draw them doing things at places, and so it takes me longer to do the background because I have to form a concrete image of what the place looks like. In my head the environments are largely vibes but when I actually start drawing them I have to have some idea of where things are in relation to each other.
Currently drawing something that was supposed to be fast but of course I started adding a background.

This pic got shoved into content lab review and been there for months, so I'll just repost it. I've grown dissatisfied with his face here but I will keep it for archiving

e: immediately got shoved into review again. let my boy go, he's pg-13.
Your boy's too hot for tumblr
I’m on a roll recently so I’m riding that urge to draw wave before I get into another slump.
I tried out how he’d look with a makeover (not in a ponytail for once) if he has to go out somewhere and look like he put in some effort (dark elves, just like everyone else, do have a lot of venues where people gather for various reasons) but I fear that if he learns how to do his makeup, the power will go to his head.
How did this get flagged by tumblr -_- Is it because of the leather jacket?
Also I so want to try out fancy styles for him but it's not in character.
Some quick photos from my walk this afternoon. Central Balkan National Park. I thought they could come in handy as reference, perhaps.
REFLECTIONS
See, the title is fitting because he’s thinking, or, one might say, reflecting on things, but also there are reflections in the water… eh? EH? It was pointed out that he seems tense and that’s because he is kind of tense because of those damn things he’s thinking about. Lots of problems to balance out, lots of plans in need of plotting. But don’t get me wrong, they’re not evil necessarily, just complicated. And the other entity, not going to lie that I’m making increasingly more elaborate appearances for her to see what’s the limit before it becomes unfeasible to paint by hand. Her previous venture into looking like a normal person was this but her stable physical form is actually this Why did she choose exactly this look as a humanoid form? She hasn’t given a satisfactory answer to any questions, even seems irritated by them. It kind of bugs him. Is it supposed to mean anything, is it supposed to evoke reactions in others, or does she just *like* the look. Does “like” even mean the same thing for her. And I guess the picture is in the vein of this much earlier piece
OK… I’ll reblog an old picture of mine because of that post.
I haven’t self reblogged this one before. It’s not even that old - August 2020, and the internet agrees that time flows differently since 2020 so it still counts as new. I also think it turned out nice!
Guys (gender-neutral), sorry for bringing up the old art again, but I just realized something. Someone had uploaded the picture to Pinterest a couple of years back (it had a decent amount of comments too, always curious to see what people think of an image out of context) and now it's gone (I don't have an account but I'm pretty sure the picture is actually not there anymore).
So while I'd normally be like "huh" since I had no involvement with the situation (people upload any stuff they find online there, that's just how it is) ... I think it got recently removed for violating the terms of service in some way. And I'm hearing there's an ongoing purge of so-called suggestive content there.
So, since (if my assumption is correct) this is way too spicy for Pinterest, gaze upon it on Tumblr (while we still can).
Commission for Kallas1. I don't have a lot of context here but she's a RPG character from a Legend of the Five Rings campaign, and is very tall. That's all that I know.
Immortalium
Commission for @cawyden-gaming . Thanks so much for commissioning me a second time!
It's Heinrix and Venria (von Valancius).
The title refers to both the flowers and the fic.
His side view was a bit trickier to draw. In the end he's not exactly like his ingame model buuut the latter is quite stylized and that's my attempt at realism.
Paleontology side of Tumblr, found this rock on the shore. Can anyone determine what the pattern on the left is? Around 2 minutes of googling suggests it is likely the track from some sort of burrowing sea invertebrate but I don't know a thing about worms and the like. I know that the rocks above the beach (town of Byala, on the west side of the Black Sea) are sedimentary, from a sea bed, and the local town museum has a display of some rare sea urchins found in them.
OK I finally sat to sort the camera photos - later the same day, after posting the picture, I saw a slightly larger rock with the same kinds of markings, if that helps. It's quite possible the small piece I found split off from this one. @zombiethethinker in the comments suggested it may be a stromatolite.
