Not a Day Goes By

I’m at a loss for words, can’t

Put them into the universe like this, I

Got new shoes, there’s

One for each day of the week, I

Won’t look down, not

That I even could anymore, we

Still breathe the same, even

When we’re convinced we don’t.

Fibonacci staircases

Bearded reflections in lead

Follow through feelings

Needle eyes in full bloom

Midday naps in sweet spring heat

New green leaves for everybody but me

Flies spawn from stillness

Venues change, curtains close

Doubled it and passed it along

Bolted at the sight of it

The madness spoke too clearly

Retinas screeching to a halt,

Auditions for the spring showing

Never to recast, with excuses we forget

I got shocked but I didn’t feel it

Just saw the spark, that’s all

Haven’t worked this hard

In a long time, in a lifetime, I

Splashes decades

Into this room

But my two step is getting booted

Shelf dust accrues, seldom feathers fall

The gutters rattle in the storm

A boombap echo

Confetti fills the air

Fictitious violence clings in air

Tutelage and rationale wavers in the breeze

Juggling voices with each twist and turn

Cicadas wait, and so will I

Yard peanuts for the crows

I can’t find the moon tonight

I have ginger stuck in my teeth

I feel as though I’m waiting for something

3 days later

It came this morning

An unexpected guest

I finally got to feel

Some joy inside my tears

Last night’s burrito,

Quarter solo of black cold brew, and

Two loads of laundry for breakfast today

Repotted some grief,

Trimmed away some root rot

My ribcage aches,

Maybe it’s I who needs a new pot

We forgot to live!

To live is the best part!

House parties break into two factions

Without fail

I’ll be with the sinners and the housecats

Will they remember me when the night ends?

Dust sits upon my boombox, with

Street light fingerprints atop the CD drive

Winter rain clouds each windshield

I’d understand if it were snow

That would feed me
