The signs as modern artists
Aries: Vincent van Gogh (March 30, 1853)
"As we advance in life it becomes more and more difficult, but in fighting the difficulties the inmost strength of the heart is developed."
Taurus: Cy Twombly (April 25, 1928)
"I sit for two or three hours and then in 15 minutes I can do a painting, but that's part of it. You have to get ready and decide to jump up and do it."
Gemini: Egon Schiele (June 12, 1890)
"To restrict the artist is a crime. It is to murder germinating life."
Cancer: Marc Chagall (July 7, 1887)
"If I create from the heart, nearly everything works; if from the head, almost nothing."
Leo: Jenny Holzer (July 29, 1950)
"One of the glories and terrors of working in public is that you do see if your output means anything to anyone."
Virgo: Sol Lewitt (September 9, 1928)
"The artist’s aim is not to instruct the viewer, but to give information, whether the viewer understands the information is incidental to the artist."
Libra: Mark Rothko (September 25, 1903)
"Art to me is an anecdote of the spirit, and the only means of making concrete the purpose of its varied quickness and stillness."
Scorpio: Pablo Picasso (October 25, 1881)
"The hidden harmony is better than the obvious."
Sagittarius: Marina Abramovic (November 30, 1946)
"The function of the artist in a disturbed society is to give awareness of the universe, to ask the right questions, and to elevate the mind."
Capricorn: Jean-Michel Basquiat (December 22, 1960)
"I don't think about art when I'm working. I try to think about life."
Aquarius: Jackson Pollock (January 28, 1912)
"I have no fear of making changes, destroying the image, etc., because the painting has a life of its own.
Pisces: Hiroshi Sugimoto (February 23, 1948)
"Humans have changed the landscape so much, but images of the sea could be shared with primordial people. I just project my imagination on to the viewer, even the first human being."

IT’S NOT REAL! sorry y’all, it’s just a dumb prank some brazilian fans decided to pull. see this tweet? it translates to “the objective was to troll the gringas, but even the brazilians fell for it”
sorry for this smh
Titus Kaphar
For his current exhibition at Jack Shainman Gallery, Kaphar presents a painting show titled “Drawing the Blinds,” along with an extension of his 2011 Jerome Project titled “Asphalt and Chalk.” The former maintain’s Kaphar’s practice of bringing history into the present, and traditional artwork into the contemporary conversation.
Many of the works allude to the historical absence of African Americans and women from the verbal and visual canons. In “Behind the Myth of Benevolence” a portrait of a silver-haired man is peeled back like a fallen drape, revealing behind it a nude depiction of a black woman, gazing at the viewer. In “Stripes,” a similarly stuffy portrait of a white man is cut into strips, many of which are nailed to the surrounding wall, exposing the wooden frame beneath. The image is both mischievous and violent, a ghostly hoax and a work of sadism.
God, this is beautiful 🙌
“The concept is simple. Take a blank sheet with nothing but the basic outline of a pinup girl and illustrate a unique scene around her.”
That is so cool. Look how creative people are
