Kanye’s Sunday Service -
I luckily scored tickets and got to go to one of his famed Sunday Services.
People have their opinions about this, they assume he thinks he’s god or something, they think it’s culture- I mean I sure did! but you can’t even trip because the matching outfits make it seem culty- but then again- even at churches, the choir is dressed in matching robes, so is a gospel choir culty?
I have gone through my religious phase, and during it- since I’m a big music lover, I did connect with the Christian music and gospel songs. Especially gospel songs- they reminded me of my grandmother, they remind me now of my uncle. I get what the songs mean, I know what religion means to people. I never shit on people’s religious beliefs. I used to have mine, I think I have mine.
There’s a force, who is driving that force? I dunno. <Back to that later?>
Any who, I mention once being religious because when the service started, the choir gave me goosebumps. I can see what Kanye is doing, or trying to accomplish- good for him, I guess. If I had money to throw a concert with music I like every week I would too! So that is what I saw, a man who likes gospel music, making it a concert to his own liking.
I have stumbled upon the Kardashians and their crews posts about the Sunday services, and I got the whole culty vibe from them because they really mislead people with what they post post-service. The pictures of bibles, gospel song lyrics etc.... Everyone seems to leaves happy and feeling blessed like one has done after a church sermon and service for ages. So I assumed there was a sermon or something, besides the music.
But there wasn’t.
Just a man leading the choir and band, singing out the words, leading the men and women in song and dance. Like you see at church. The men sounded fabulous, the women sounded beautiful and they all sounded amazing together.
Kanye really wasn’t even showing too much emotion towards the beginning. He didn’t give a speech or sermon, he didn’t try to convince us of anything. He sang what? Two songs? He played the piano for one and looked so happy doing it. Chance showed up and sang his bit from Ultralight Beam (which is one of my top 5 songs by Kanye) and then got into it with the choir and band as the service went on.
It was cool to be there and to experience it for myself. As I said, we all make assumptions off what we see online, and being there to see it happen- proved me wrong.
Kanye was home and he let us all join in during his private gospel service.
Only one person had a bible showing in the crowd- and it was a stash box bible 👀
