About the Blog:

This is an experimental ask blog dedicated to The Host and The Author from "Danger In Fiction" and general Mark ego art zone. Obviously, there isn't a lot of source material, so these will be fanon characterizations and set in the same world as the Markiplier Cinematic Universe (is that what we're calling it?). Seeing as time is mushy in the MCU, these guys can exist at the same time bc why not.

An arrogant and sadistic man with the unnatural ability to control people and the world around them with his writing. In pursuit of creating his “masterpiece” he uses unwilling captives as characters in his twisted stories. He thinks of himself as a god. However, when he wrote himself to be the greatest storyteller, whatever source his powers derive from decided that the greatest story one could tell is the tapestry of life. Thus, The Host was born out of Author’s rewritten soul.

The Author

The Host

He is a narrator of the tapestry of life, from the mundane to the prophetic. Think of The Fates from various mythologies, although this one is somewhat unwilling in his role. He is more of a passive observer, but he does have some influence over reality and can summon visions of the future. His permanently bleeding eyes seem to be the price paid for such “gifts”. The Host himself is a complete recluse for obvious reasons. However, he is kind and wishes for the luxury of human connection.

Welp, im sure you can guess the state of this blog by how long it took me to get back to you oops :(( i have around 10 asks but between graduating college, losing my job, and other major life events ive been struggling to draw at all. The Host would definitely say He and Dr. Iplier are friends. He appreciates Iplier’s groundedness and honesty in the face of life’s absurdity. Although, their friendship began simply because The Host was awake all hours of the night to lend an ear when the doctor got off work.

You won't be murdered, at least not outside a story. Author will ask some totally not suspicious questions on that front.

How do u answer so many asks with art so quickly (ToT) i have like 8 for yellow-hollow that have been there for months bc i put too much pressure on answering them (;_;)...tell me your ways

I can’t lie I really do feel for you. I’ve been taking my little breaks of course.. it’s a lot to start unlearning. The main reason I’ve started to post is so that I don’t judge myself too harshly, and I hope others can learn the same. There will always be someone on the planet that loves what you do.

With valentines asks I made most of them quick and simple by just being an above shoulder doodle. I can smash them out without worrying much.

You may notice with a lot of my art I don’t exactly take the time to erase all my mistakes / guidelines, my sketches are usually pretty quick. I don’t do line art, I have one layer, and if it looks good after a little bit of tidying up it’s what I consider finished at the moment.

I don’t pressure myself to make things “perfect” and “finished” exactly. Things don’t have to be perfect to be enjoyable and I try to keep that in mind.

Sometimes I get down about how my art looks rough and “unfinished” but then I remember I’m the only one making the art the way that I am. I am in my own lane, it has never been a contest.

I’ve always been a pencil and paper artist but since I’ve gotten an ipad and a stylus it’s always been the same process. Colouring is just a quick dash or two since I personally prefer doing black and white stuff.

If I ever feel doubtful of what I make I step back and listen to some good music. If I’m not feeling inspired or nothing looks good then I leave it for the next day. Sometimes things look better when you give it a day and a second take.

I wish I had something more meaningful and wisdomly to share, but keep in mind asks are optional. The deadlines are not real. Nobody expects you to be on time. Better late than never. Time’s a construct. And most importantly: if you’re not having fun with it, it may not be the right time to tackle it just yet. If you do not feel good about yourself, you will not feel good about what you create.

Hey host! Do you have a favorite out of the few egos? Or people? And who do you think is the most superior one?(CoughActorMarkcoughcough)

The Host could never play favorites, listener. But if you meant to ask to whom he is closest too, that would probably be Dark. Dark was the first ego he met, and after the initial confusion, he has treated The Host with utmost kindness and sincerity. Nowadays, Dark would describe The Host as one of his few confidantes.

Speaking of, he has mentioned you, Actor. More than mentioned. From that information, The Host is relieved we’ve never met and rejects your suggestion of superiority. You may draw from great power to create your stories, but The Host is a master storyteller~

host, would you say you have a best friend?

Best friend? Doubtful, dear listener. But The Host has been keeping good company. Lately, Bing the android and Bim Trimmer have been inviting him to their “Kitchen Nightmares” binges. The Host’s favorite part is when they try to describe a failing dish to him. He also appreciates that reality TV has so many consistent audio cues for him to follow. What other shows do you recommend The Host try?

*grabs yuo* do you have any hcs/theories for how the author became the host/howre theyre connected. This is my #1 markiplier autism because we'll never know the original answerrr aughhhhhghhh

I FEEL YOU I REALLY DO. Holding your shoulders as well. I’m not really an Author to Host believer but I do think they are connected.

Theory 1 is that The Host created the Author to be an extension of self, an OC, one that is able to freely interact with his surroundings without consequence. The Author is the only human being The Host has been able to create or control. Basically; Danger in Fiction was The Host doing a trial run of his special little OC interacting with a real person.

Theory 2 Is that the author was hit by a flying pickle which exploded both his eyes /J

Theory 3 is that The Author is simply an intern/trainee working with the Host. Watching and learning how The Host sets fiction into reality in the hopes he’ll be a bestselling writer someday. Helps out the Host with his radio show here and there.

Some little headcanons of mine..

-I believe The Host hasn’t lost his eyes completely, but is visually impaired from Hypertension.

-He has haemolacria, a real condition of lesser known origin which causes the person to have blood mixed in their tears.

-Partial wheelchair user. Dr. Iplier or The Author will be asked to assist if needed.

-The Author is a self taught writer up until he is taken in by The Host. They have the same sense of humour.

-The Author has a big liking for horror and crime books. Even comic books.

-He also likes to draw/paint! Charcoal and graphite is his best medium, he often still has the residue on his hands.

Hiii this is still chromacryptid but my character blog bc i wanted to yap fhdhfj theory 1 is so interesting to me!! Pretty much every hc I've seen is that The Author came before The Host, so imagining Host creating Author is sooo interesting. Makes The Host seem a lil more evil >:3

I hc that The Author accidentally "rewrote" his soul when he used his powers on himself, thus creating The Host. But that means that they can't interact, which is a lil sad (ToT) So that makes me like your theory 3 too! It introduces a boss/employee hierarchy that i think would piss Author off a bit 👀

Also I love ur headcanons <3 i don't remeber if I've drawn it but my Host uses a cane bc i love to project my medical issues on him <3

I notice their dynamic as separate people isn’t explored enough and figured I would lean more into that, it has a bit more creativity there than simply having the author Becoming the host. Given the difference between their Narration style, The Host feels more suited to a radio drama reader or a director role, where The Author is simply reading a story. Unless the Author takes up film later in his life? Interesting thought. I do think they are both a bit evil, they have their similarities of course.

I like your headcanon, what do you think caused him to rewrite himself? What did he hope to achieve? does this mean he is a character in his own story?

Theory 3 I admit is the one I lean to most, they bicker, they help each other. The Host feels like an older mentor to Author in my mind. Teamwork in the name progress. Who knows, maybe the Author takes The Host’s place if he is gone.

Rubbing my mitts together okok so context my Author is very dumb arrogant and flip flops between thinking he's the best ever and being super frustrated with his writing. In one of his bad moods, he gets the idea to write himself as "the greatest storyteller". What could go wrong, I mean he can totally use his powers to make his writing even better right......

So what's the greatest story to tell? The ~tapestry of life~. OK when I say it like that it sounds a little pretentious but I was inspired by The Fates in Shakespeare and various mythologies, how they weave every fiber of life to record it. So The Author is transformed into The Host in order to fill this role. This also explains why Host is always narrating everything :3

It's interesting you ask if this means he's a character in his own story.. I hadn't really considered the boundaries between an Author/Host narrative and the real world :0
