What's happening on Patreon? For 2026, I've been trying to teach myself a little art history in digestible little bites and it's really made me think about my relationship with my own art.
Original doodles have gone out in the Happy Mail alongside some Maggie postcards from that last reel, haha.
TIL that woolly bears just freeze solid over the winter. I guess that's not the worst thing a caterpillar's body gotta do. 😅 Went out looking for one but all I found was the dazzling autumn colours!! #peachtober25bear #peachtober25button
If you could create an encyclopedia of your life and interests, what would it contain?
Patreon happy mail day!
One envelope contains an original drawing of a peony dripping with water after a rainstorm.
I was waiting alone in a backyard and had that urge to scroll on my phone, but it was a dead zone, so I just stood on my feet and got lost in the ambient sounds: gutters dripping, wind chimes tinkling, cottonwoods whispering, wasps chewing, crows cawing their warnings.
Surprisingly nice to be bored and unstimulated for once.
I recently painted a bird who makes whimsical keys that will never open any doors, but the painting wasn't real enough for me. I hoarded all these found treasures for years, why not try assemblage? This is way better!
New video on youtube today! Spending the perfect day shopping, snacking, painting plein air on the Sea Wall in Vancouver BC 😊
Wrapping myself in the prickly nostalgia that both comforts and hurts.
Canvas panels seem fun to paint on until you have to figure out how to display them on a wall and they're too thicc to fit into to prebuilt frame.
It took a year of procrastination, but I finally mounted this one onto a wood panel and then painted the sides to match 😅
Perfect weekend for PleinAirpril! Quick gouache landscapes under a dramatic spring sky.
Welp, I tried Hourly Comic Day (2025), although I'm not a comic artist, so it's more like hourly drawing day. Got up early, drew my hourlies at a flea market, and checked out the postcard sale. A busy day! As soon as I got home, though, I got tired and have to admit that my evenings can get extremely nonproductive! lol I don't know if I would ever do this again.
It wasn't a terrible challenge, just a bit rushed.
Taking a mild winter walk to see that the forest is still active! Spotted my first earth star mushroom 😊 plus my personal favourite, bird's nest.
November's patreon video is a (mostly) real-time making of "Blue," a watercolour painting of this little guy passively floating down a slow river in a somber kind of mood.
It's okay, though, 'cause yellow duckling friends are always standing by, ready to have a nice time together 😊
Saw some yellow weeds growing in a ditch, and they were like little bits of sunlight on a dreary, grey day.
I was the kind of kid that had absolutely zero interest in others. 😅 At recess, I would lay on the wet grass with my feet dangling in the sky, pretending gravity had flipped and everything was tumbling off through the clouds into vast space.
This is what I was busy doing when another lonely kid walked up to me and asked if the position of best friend was currently available. I was like, "Sure, okay," and we're still friends 30 years later. 😆
It's kind of funny how lonely kids easily recognize each other from a distance, feet in the air, with a thousand-yard stare. Kind of a dead giveaway I guess, heh.
Been enjoying the pylons around town! They add such a fun shape and a pop of bright colour to any ordinary scene.
Flipping through my stack of older paintings that I haven't been giving much attention to lately, their little stories just as relevant as they were at the creation stage 🥹
So I'm having a sale!
